• International rules for transporting hazardous goods generally imposed by UN Recommendations (through ICAO/IATA, IMO/IMDG Code) and domestic legislation

• Regulations and codes classify dangerous goods and define requirements for labelling, documentation, packaging, segregation etc.

• Emergency services need to know what substances they are dealing wit

• ITS systems may be able to reduce the risks• May be other benefits – eg reduced

transaction times at borders
