Sister Helen’s Journey: Letters to Death Row
“Back in 1982, I got an invitation to write a man on Louisiana’s death row. That
correspondence changed my life, challenged it, enriched it, and deepened it forever. Would you consider becoming a penpal to one of the 744 men and women condemned to die in California?” To learn more about this opportunity, please join
San Diegans Against the Death Penalty for one of two information sessions. Enjoy
light refreshments, meet past and current penpals, and learn how you can make a
difference. The information session will be held on Thursday, January 31st, from
11:30AM-1PM or at 7:00PM-8:30PM at the Diocesan Pastoral Center at
3888 Paducah Drive. To RSVP and for more information, please
email [email protected].

Silent Ignatian Retreats
Silent Ignatian Retreats are based on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, offered by the priests of Miles Christi, a religious order devoted to the laity’s sanctification. Throughout the centuries, the spiritual exercises have become known as an excellent means of sanctification, highly praised by popes and saints. There will be spiritual talks, Eucharistic adoration, daily Mass, and recitation of the Rosary at the men’s and women’s retreats. Men Retreats: March 15-17 and April 18-20 (Holy Week) both in Oceanside. Women Retreats: February 15-17 in Temecula and April 18-20 (Holy Week) in Rancho Palos Verdes. For more information, contact Christine Timmerman at [email protected] or at 858-263-5113.

Baptism Baptisms are a communal Sacrament held on the 4th Sunday of each month after the 11:00am Mass. Deacon John Fanelle performs all of the baptisms. Parents are required to be formally registered as parishioners, and be participating members of our community for three months. Attending Mass does not make you registered. You must have completed the registration form. If this is the first child, both parents are required to attend the Baptismal Class. Baptismal classes are held on the first Sunday of each month. Godparents are encouraged to attend the baptismal class, either at our parish or their own parish. For more information, or to schedule a Baptism and/or register for the Baptismal Class, please visit https://sttheresecarmel.org/baptism/. Marriage
All couples wishing to be married at St. Thérèse of Carmel must be formally registered, active and participating members of our parish community for one year before setting a date. Couples are asked to allow six to nine months to complete the marriage preparation program. Please contact the parish office at (858) 481-3232 or email [email protected] to make arrangements.
RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults RCIA is the process by which the unbaptized are received into the Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Unbaptized adults seeking a deeper union with Jesus Christ, through initiation into the Catholic Faith, are cordially invited to consider participation in the RCIA which will begin in the fall. RCIA is also appropriate for Christians from other denominations who seek initiation into the Catholic tradition and for Baptized Catholics who need to finish their sacraments of initiation. Please contact Karen Klause (858) 354-7441 for more information.
