The Advocate
Do you think of Jesus as an “advocate” for you?
The Greek word translated as “advocate” can also be translated as “comforter”, “consoler” or
“intercessor”.
The image of Jesus as “advocate”, “comforter”, “consoler” and “intercessor” is an image used in the
First Letter of John, Chapter 2: “We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ…”
When Jesus first appeared to the disciples after his crucifixion he had one message, and he repeats it
more than once. That message is summed up in the Hebrew word “Shalom”, translated “Peace”. With this
one word Jesus summarizes God’s relationship with humanity: “Shalom”; “Peace be with you”.
A free-lance writer, commenting on Jesus’s advocacy of Peace, says this: “We need to let Jesus pour
out that word (Peace) over our own terrible and too-often secret messes. This is how we allow Jesus to be
the Father’s advocate in our life”.
Let Jesus pour out the Father’s Peace on the terrible messes we make in and of our lives.
At every Mass, during the Communion Rite, there is the Sign of Peace: “Peace I leave you, my peace
I give you’; “The peace of the Lord be with you always”. This Sign of Peace is more than a cordial
greeting or exchange of pleasantries. This is the sincere desire that God’s Peace- Shalom- enter into our
hearts and lives.
“We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ…”
May we let Jesus console, comfort, advocate and intercede for us, pouring out the Father’s Peace on
our lives and in our world.
God’s Peace,
Fr. Rossi
“We have an advocate with the Father,
Jesus Christ…” (1 John 2)

Comings and Goings marked this past week. Some very special grandparents and other Very Important Persons in the lives of the students came for some prayer, entertainment, quiz bowl fun and visit to the classrooms on Monday afternoon. As the saying goes “A great time was had by all!” The Student Council officers were seen going to Camilla Hall with the toiletry items the children collected during Lent. The students stayed for a little while and did some service too. Another group to come this week arrived on Friday morning. The newly enrolled kindergarten children came for a short visit to meet their teacher and get a cool shirt that says “Class of 2014!!!” And finally the most important coming and going of all is that our second graders went to the table of the Lord for the first time to receive the Lord who comes to them and each of us with such love and grace in Holy Communion.
May the Lord bless all our comings and goings. Mary’s Way of the Cross 10th Anniversary
May 1, 2015—7:00 p.m. in Church Mary’s Way of the Cross is a unique meditation on
the final walk of Jesus, from His condemnation,
through His sorrowful journey, to His death and burial
in the tomb. Mary’s Way of the Cross offers short
meditation reflections on each station as it appears to
Mary, who made the first Way of the Cross with her
Son. At each station, individual female members of
our parish will read the meditations from Mary’s
perspective. This is a beautiful tribute to Jesus with
Mary. “When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple
whom He loved standing beside her, he said to his
mother, ‘Woman, behold your son.’” (John 19:26)
