SAINTLY FOOD FOR THOUGHT
St. John of the Cross, Feast Day December 14
“Abide in peace, banish cares, take no account of all that happens, and you will serve God according to his good pleasure and rest in him.”
Often times we go throughout life focused so much on our work and whether or not it produced successful results that we become discouraged and full of worry. We must focus not on what we were unable to do, or what we failed in despite our immense efforts, but what Christ is able to do. Our power is not from within ourselves but in Christ. Regardless of the many outcomes in life, as long as we act out of love in the moment we can never fail in God’s eyes. That is all that truly matters. If God wills something to happen, it will happen (though perhaps not according to our schedule). If God does not will something it will not happen despite our efforts to the contrary. Everything that happens on this earth does so for a reason. Though we may not know why, we must trust that God does and that He can bring about right even in situations that may seem wrong to us. If I may use the phrase, “God can write straight with crooked lines.” For more information on St. John of the Cross see: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=65

SLOW DANCE
This poem was written by a terminally ill young girl in a New York Hospital, and was quoted by Deacon Gerry Malueg in a recent homily. Many folks asked for a copy. Here it is. Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round? Or listened to the rain slapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight? Or gazed at the sun into the fading night? You better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last. Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask "How are you"? Do you hear the reply? When the day is done do you lie in your bed With the next hundred chores running through your head? You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last. Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow? And in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die Cause you never had time to call and say 'Hi?' You'd better slow down. Don't dance so fast. Time is short. The music won't last. When you run so fast to get somewhere You miss half the fun of getting there. When you worry and hurry through your day, It is like an unopened gift....Thrown away. Life is not a race. Do take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

Scriptures: Is. 35:1-6a,1;’ James 5:7-10; Matt 11:2-11
One of my favorite Christmas songs is “The Christmas Shoes” by New Song. It’s a story of a Christmas shopper in a foreign land who runs into a poor child who is trying to buy a pair of Christmas shoes for his mother. She is dying, and he wants her to be beautiful when she meets Jesus. I love it because it reminds us what Christmas is all about. Recently I received an email that had a link to a song by a father and daughter, Steve Haupt and Becky Kelly. It is called “Where’s the Line to See Jesus?” It has already become another favorite for me. Some lyrics are: Christmas time was approaching. Snow was starting to fall. Shoppers choosing their presents. People filling the mall. Children waiting for Santa with excitement and glee. A little boy tugged my sweater, looked up and asked me: Where’s the line to see Jesus? Is he here at the store? If Christmas time is his birthday, then why don’t we see him more? Where’s the line to see Jesus? He was born for me. Santa Claus brought me presents, but Christ gave his life for me. As I stood in amazement at this message profound, I looked down to thank him he was no where around. That little boy at the mall might as well have had wings. As the tears filled my eyes I thought I heard him sing: Where’s the line to see Jesus? Is he here at the store? If Christmas time is his birthday, then why don’t we see him more? Where’s the line to see Jesus? He was born for me. Santa Claus brought me presents, but Christ gave his life for me. The song continues, but you get the message. This song is based on a true story of a 4-year old boy. Wow! Out of the mouths of children... I think sometimes we run around like crazy trying to make a “perfect” Christmas for the children, and often children understand what Christmas is about even better than we do. May we share the insight of this little boy as we remember that Christmas is so much more about Jesus than Santa. What are the ways that we can help people see Jesus more this time of year? What can we do to help others experience the true message of Christmas…the message of a God and Savior that loves each one of us as if we were their only child? May we be ever more aware of Christ’s comings into our lives…and may we be regular participants in those comings!

All of the Angels must be ready at any moment, any time! Our first show begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by a short intermission with the second show starting at 7:15. All are welcome! The mission of Divine Savior Parish is to use all the means God has given us to be a life-giving example of Christ’s love in our
community and beyond. In cooperation with the global Catholic Church and the
Archdiocese of Milwaukee, we accomplish this through prayer, frequent celebration
of the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist, study and sharing of our faith,
service to all, and by providing our children with Catholic roots deeply embedded in
faith in God.
The mission of Divine Savior Catholic School is to provide an environment for
children to excel personally, academically and spiritually. Together we share in the
mission of Divine Savior Parish to foster a faith-filled community where Catholic
values are learned through prayer, service and love. Our goal is to use these values
to develop lifelong learners and compassionate leaders.
The mission of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Congregation is to be a life-giving sign of Christ’s love, justice, and peace in our area of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, through the celebration of the sacraments,
especially the Eucharist, community prayer, spiritual reflection, and a commitment of
service to God’s people.

Serenity Hospice Care is a locally owned hospice company looking for friendly visitors to provide companionship to our hospice patients. You would spend time sharing stories, reading to them, listening to music, watching a favorite TV show, or just sitting quietly. It is wonderful to spend time with patients to relieve family members or be there to let them know they are not alone. We are looking for volunteers to provide regular visits and companionship to hospice patients. We will work to match you with a patient in your community, availability, and background so this role is not only tailored to our patients' needs, but can fit in your schedule as well. There is required training to ensure you are prepared and comfortable in the role. Please contact Ashley Wissinger at [email protected] or 262-735-4297 if interested. Thank you!
