Helpful Hints – Quantity Surveyor
• Gain a basic understanding / appreciation of how designers
approach / structure a project
• Understand any work-around or limitations of the design
software
• Appreciate not everything is modelled
• May have to develop measurement libraries to extract and
interpret quantities / data from model for immediate use
• Be aware of any data ‘lost in translation’ between file exports
Helpful Hints – Designers
• Additional information may be needed to be inputted into
model in order for quantity take off to be completed from a 3d
model
• Unlikely that model data / structure will be compatible for
quantity take off in line with NRM’s.
• Unlikely that model data / structure can be broken into work
package structures of trade packages.
Helpful Hints - All
• Communication is vital
• Be clear about what your requirements are – retrospective /
abortive work is frustrating and costly
• Be honest! - Don’t over/under exaggerate your capabilities
• Sit with your team and review all aspects of models and the
required outputs together
