We all know the importance of immunizations for babies and toddlers, however immunizations during the teen years are equally important. As your teen’s social world grows, so does his or her risk for exposure to vaccine-preventable illnesses like meningitis, human papillomavirus (HPV), and whooping cough (pertussis). Teens commonly encounter these vaccine-preventable diseases that are quickly spread through social interaction with their peers. Due to the highly contagious nature of these diseases, many schools and colleges require select vaccinations before admittance. Cost is not a barrier to vaccination. Children ages 18 and younger who do not have insurance or whose insurance does not cover vaccines are eligible to receive free vaccinations through participating Vaccines for Children providers or the county health department.
