Survey the facility and make plans to protect outside equipment and structures.Make plans to protect windows and outer doorways – 5/8’ machine plywood is recommend.

Consider the need for back-up systems: – Portable Pumps to remove flood water – Alternative power sources such as generators – Battery-powered emergency lightingComplete the back-up process for all computer systems and move the back-up tapes to the nearest safe facility if applicable.Move critical documents to the nearest safe facility.

PLANNING TIPS– Contact local emergency management office to get a copy of your community evacuation plans.– Establish facility shutdown procedures.

– Establish warning and evacuations procedures.– Make plans to communicate with employee’s families before and after the hurricane.– Make plans for helping employees who may need assistance during evacuation.– Purchase a weather radio with a tone alert and battery back-up.

Monitor the weather radio and local stations if possible.Contact the appropriate personnel (EHS Director, Safety Hotline, Facility Manager, Regional Director).Park tractors, trailers and personal vehicles against the down-wind side of the facility if not possible to move inland.Move as much freight as possible from the facility to an inland site.Cover electronic equipment with plastic sheeting and move it away from

windows if possible.Fuel all tractors and personal vehicles before the storm hits. Fueling station may be inoperable for many days after the storm due to flooding of the tanks and interrupted power.If an evacuation is ordered by the local emergency management agency, evacuate immediately and notify the appropriate personnel.If you are caught in the storm, move to the down-wind side of the interior walls

in the center of the facility away from the exterior windows and doorways.Assign emergency team leaders to direct employees and equip them with flashlights and emergency supplies.
