From the Chair – Message from Patron Dear Alumni, I am very happy to communicate through

this Alumni News letter!

At the outset, I am filled with euphoria and pride that our institution has been glorified with many coveted awards and appreciations during this part of the academic year.

The two most prestigious AICTE – CII Best Industry Linked Institute Awards for the Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering disciplines were conferred upon our institution on 20 November 2014 and presented by the Hon’ble Union Minister for Human Resources Development Smt.Smriti Irani. It is a towering triumph that among the 2744 branches from 814 colleges from all over India that competed, the Civil and Electrical Engineering branches of our institution were acknowledged the best. I express my hearty congratulations to all the Heads of Departments, faculty, staff, students and all the stakeholders who have rendered their best efforts to made it happen.

Also, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ms.N.I. Maheshwari, faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engg. for all her contributions to be the winner of the Best Polytechnic Teacher 2014 at the National Level by the ISTE. I wish her success in her future endaevours.

My students also rightly prove their potential by grabbing many awards and prizes at National and State level. The State Level Best NSS Volunteers Award by the Government of Tamilnadu and the prizes won at the National level Paper presentation at the 22nd IEI Annual Students` Convention at Visakhapatnam stand

testimony to the high caliber and competency of our students. I am very happy to congratulate them for their wonderful contributions and expect many more awards and laurels in the near future. The National Level Technical Symposium Thiagfest and Project Expo2k15, were held in association with the Students’ Chapters of the Institution of Engineers (I) and the ISTE on 9 & 10 January 2015 respectively. Symposium and Project Expo and make it a grand success.

Many innovative steps are being taken to facilitate the

development of the Polytechnic in all disciplines as

briefed.

Implementation of Moodle software for mathematics, blackboard software for latest teaching learning process and Student Centered Learning, an innovative and a best educational practice.

Introduction of Audit Courses to enhance the placement potential of the students.

As a result of the most modern and innovative

teaching methodologies, in addition to the continuous

assessment and monitoring, our students have been

producing excellent results in examinations and getting

placed in reputed organizations with high perks.

Now, I invite all the alumni to visit the alma mater,

make use of the facilities, offer suggestions for further

development and disseminate the features of this

institution to the industrial world.

The overwhelming response for the Annual General

Body Meeting of Alumni Association held on 21 Feb

2015 was greatly appreciated by the management.

The endowment funds created reveals the gratitude

and concern that the alumni have towards their Alma

Mater.

In recognition of the involvement of Alumni, we have

honoured nine elite alumni representing each

discipline during the 58h Annual Day celebrations of

our college on 05 March 2015.

General body meeting

The Annual General Body meeting of the Alumni

Association was held on 21th Feb 2015.

Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal & Patron in his felicitation,

brought into limelight the commendable and unique

services of Chairman Sri.C.Valliappa in the

development of Thiagarajar Polytechnic College during

the past five decades.

Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal & Patron honoured the senior alumni members present in the AGM and delivered special address. He expressed his gratitude for active involvement of Alumni and Industries in obtaining the NBA Accreditation for second term of five years from March 2012. He has conveyed NBA Team experts have amazed the emotional attachment of Alumni in the institutions development. Being himself an outstanding Alumni of TPT, highlighting the achievements of the institution, acclaimed that everyone should feel proud of being TPT'ian.

Also, Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal & Patron has informed that "Knowledge Club" will be inaugurated during March 2013 to bridge the alumni with pursuing students and act as a platform for exchange of knowledge and opportunities. Members can register themselves online in the institution's website and can propose a date for disseminating guest lecture to the current students for updating their knowledge in their interested fields.

In addition, Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal & Patron, has announced that sub-centres of TPT Alumni Association Chapters will be started shortly in Chennai, Bengaluru and Hosur.

On behalf of self and Alumni Association, Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal & Patron expressed sincere thanks to the Chairman, Members of the Management and Secretary for their continued support in all the endeavors.

Principal highlighted the achievements of our Polytechnic during 2008 – 2014 and every alumni member should feel proud for being a TPT old student. The Best Polytechnic College Award conferred

during 2010 by Government of Tamilnadu with cash prize of Rs.1 lakh received by

Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal, was created as endowment fund in the name of “Best Polytechnic Award”.

Best ISTE Chapter Chairman Award to the Principal Dr.V.Karthikeyan for 3rd year consecutively.

Accreditation for five programmes such as Civil, Mech, EEE, Prodn, Textile by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi for the second term of five years.

NSS State Level Awards for the institution, Programme Officers and Volunteers consecutively for the past three years.

Prizes won by the students in IEI National Level conventions for 6th year consecutively.

Best Polytechnic College Award in the IPAA State Level Sports Games Tournaments.

Best ISTE Student Chapter Staff Advisor Award for 2014, TN & P.

Best AICTE –CII – Linked Technical Institutes Award-

Sri.S.Loganathan, President, welcomed the gathering

and Smt.C.Jayanthi, Treasurer presented the audited

report for the year 2014.

Sri. Ravi Tamilvanan, M.D of Manimegalai Prasuram,

Chennai delivered a special address and appreciated

the support rendered by the alumni members for the

progress of the institution.

Nearly 800 alumni members were present and shared their views and experiences.

An exclusive Training and Placement cell is functioning

in the institution with a full time Placement officer

guided by a Senior Faculty.

In order to improve the effectiveness of

Placements, this year, Audit Courses were

introduced to the final year students. The Audit

Courses comprise Communication skills, Aptitude,

Technical skills, Values and ethics and Soft skills.

In the year 2014, 42 Eminent organizations have visited our campus for recruiting our students and totally 350 students are placed and the remaining students opted for Higher studies.

A preliminary meeting of 1995 EEE branch met on 2 August 2015 to develop their rapport with Alumni Association.
