A NOTE FROM JEAN

It’s “the good old summertime” at last. I am pleased to remind you that our summer Concerts In The Courtyard series will again be held in July and August. The schedule is on the back of this issue. Members of the public are welcome as always. Bring a folding chair and enjoy.

I want to give my own congratulations to Fr. Hynes who was recently honored for his generous sharing of his priestly gifts with Villa residents. I am delighted that your goodness has been recognized.

Jeff Aubin is in the spotlight as well. His creativity is amazing and invariably delicious. It enhances daily dining and all events. As J.R.R. Tolkien said, “ If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, the world would be a merrier place.” Jeff surely increases our merry factor.

Food, food, fabulous food!Jeff Aubin, Executive Chef at the Villa, is deeply focused on his art; the creation of varied, creative and memorable food. He can be glimpsed moving on his beloved orange clogs between the kitchen, the dining rooms and gathering spots where food is being served. “ I always loved cooking, “ he says, “ even as a kid growing up in Burrillville.” While at Johnson and Wales, he managed a nursing home Food Services Director’s job and a full course load to graduate in the top 10% of his class with an Associate’s Degree earned in 365 days versus the usual two years.

After success in the private sector, Jeff longed for his own kitchen free of corporate constraints. Five years ago, he was snapped up by the Villa. “The Villa is a great place to work,” Jeff comments. “At Resident Council meetings there is a good give and take on what additions or changes

residents would like to see. He mentioned one response to a request for more comfort food; meatloaf nestled in puff pastry. “Comfort food with a twist.” he calls it. The comfort extends to Jeff’s happy kitchen. He points out the low turnover of the staff, many of whom have been here since the Villa opened. His respect and regard for this well honed team are felt in his voice.

Action oriented and vibrant, Jeff enjoys time with his son, Alix, 9, and his daughter, Madison, 7. He loves being outdoors rock climbing, kayaking or cycling.

The Villa is fortunate to share a portion of his positive energy.
