The meeting was called to order at 6, by President Robin. Duties were served by: Sandy Foster, Lynne Hall, Jeremy Swanson, & Bee Bar-mann Our guest speaker was Jeff Pickering, President/CEO of the Kern Community Foundation. Jeff dis-cussed the history of KCF and the many services it provides to the community, non-profits, and especially those who are very wealthy and want to develop a grant proc-ess for their giv-ing. Check out their website for more de-tails: kerncommunity-foundation.org. Robin collected a variety of fines from now famous members due to the most recent issue of Bakersfield Life Magazine: she recognized Gary Frazier for finally wearing his Rotary pin in the picture for The Food Dudes; Amy Smith was recognized for being one-half of a non-profit power couple; Barry Rosenfeld was recognized for his “Castle on the Kern” spot. In other news, John Vasinda was fined for vaca-tioning in Cabo and returning to Rotary empty handed. Sandy Foster’s birthday was celebrated with a special song by Presi-dent Robin. Brad Henderson forked out some happy bucks for 38 years of marriage, and Andrew Fishkin for Ariana’s safe arrival in Ja-pan. Gary Fachin shared a pancake feed Rotary Moment.
Anselmo informed us of our next Service Pro-ject: Alzheimer’s of Kern County Rock-a-Thon on September 29th. Volunteers are needed to serve food and represent Rotary Twilight. President Robin cited a study that states that learning a foreign language stimulates the brain in a way that can ward off dementia, and Sonoka will be teaching us a new word every week. It’s a good thing, because we’ve already forgotten what she taught us last week!

Ariana is already a globe-trekker extraordinaire. She has already scratched BBQs, making new friends, fire-works and mountaintops off of her dance-card!
Within a few days of landing in Japan, she went on a three day trip and hiked Mt. Fuji (which for those who are taking notes, is 12,290 feet tall!).
At the district conference last week she and other ex-change students gave a speech - in Japanese!
They also visited Fuji-Q High-land , an amusement park fa-mous for its thrill rides.
