Another Oldsmobile National Meet is now history. In view of some of the happenings on the judging field at the 2009 Meet in Seven Springs, PA, I would like to propose that our chapter return to the format of judging the cars at our Zone Show in 2010. What has become evident is that many of those who sign up to be a judge at the Nationals, have either never judged before or have very little experience as a judge. The result is points are taken off a car when they should not have been or too many points are deducted for the fault. As a member of the National Judging Committee, I will be meeting with our Chief Judge and the committee members this year to propose some new guidelines to the judging process. When a person is well informed regarding how to be judge, he or she can be more effective. The goal is to supply as much information for each year and model of car on the show field in order for the car to be properly judged. There were many examples of errors made in Seven Springs by individuals who lacked the proper knowledge. This is not their fault; they just did not have the opportunity to learn. As a result, it has been proposed that a judging clinic be held for first year judges or those with less than two years experience at the Nationals prior to judging day. If members of our chapter plan to attend the 2011 Nationals in Reno, NV and plan to sign up to be a judge, being able to judge with confidence would be a great advantage. Many members do not want to be a judge because they may feel they do not have the necessary qualifications. For this reason, I propose that we hold a judging class or classes prior to our 2010 Zone Show. It would be my pleasure to serve as the instructor for the classes. Also, judging at the Zone Show would be a great rehearsal for the Nationals in Reno. On another note, if you have not had the opportunity to attend a chapter meeting lately, there are several great meetings planned for the next few months. Ed and Erma Booth have arranged for the September 6 chapter meeting to be held at Carr’s Restaurant in Lakewood. For those of us who live in the Sound Puget Sound, this is a great opportunity. It is a car collector themed restaurant with a private banquet room for our meeting. Please try to plan to be there. The Pontiac Club has offered to be the hosts of the B-O-P Cruise on September 26. There is a flyer on page 14 of this newsletter. In a conversation with Brian Laurance of the Buick Club, he indicated that there would be at least 10 Buicks and perhaps an equal amount of Pontiacs. Wouldn’t it be great if the Puget Sound Olds Club could have 10 or more participants? The cruise starts at the McDonalds parking lot at the end of Hwy 512 (Exit 127 on I-5) and travels thru Olympia to Hood Canal with the final destination Port Townsend. Brian said that rather than try to keep an entire group of cars together, there will be rendezvous points along the way to reassemble if you get separated from the main group. As one of our chapter members would say, “Keep the rubber side down”.

Meeting called to order by Nina Rogers, president. Minutes of the June meeting were approved. Treasurer's Report – Kathi Straw – Report approved. Annual Zone Show, Saturday, August 8

Progress on the Show - Kathi announced that there were 16 cars signed up for the August 8th Zone Show. Ed Straw suggested those involved with set up should be there early, 7:30 a.m.

Raffle – Nina suggested a new system for the raffle items. It was agreed that the new system will be used at this years’ show.

Nationals Update – Ed Konsmo – Upcoming nationals will be in the following locations: 2010 Sturbridge, Mass. (30 miles west of Boston); 2011 Reno, Nevada; 2012 will be announced at nationals this month.

Chapter Meeting – September 6, 1 p.m. – The September club meeting will be at Carr’s (a car-themed) Restaurant on Bridgeport Way) in Lakewood, WA. B.O.P. Cruise – September 26 – We discussed the cruise being hosted by the Pontiac club, as well as the Buick club. We will start in Tacoma at Exit 127 and Hwy 512 (in the McDonald’s parking lot). A second departure point is at Hawk’s Prairie. The tour will then proceed to Hwy 101 to Shelton and Hood Canal. There will be a lunch stop and then on to Port Townsend. New Business:

Web page updating was discussed. Kathi said she would present the list of suggested changes to her sister and have her sister get back to us.

An update to the post office information was discussed. Another name on the signature card was

suggested, since Ed and Kathi are the only two listed at this time. If they were out of town or unable to get to the post office for some reason it was thought that another qualified individual (by being on the signature card) would be a good idea. No final decision was made on this matter.

Ed Straw discussed the Canadian Father’s Day meet in North Vancouver. He stated that four cars from

our club were in attendance and that all had had a great time. Raffle Results: Since this was primarily a stuffing party for the upcoming Zone Show there were no raffle drawings. Anyone having brought an item was asked to bring it back with them to the Zone Show and the item could be used at that time in the big raffle.
