1. Concept Statement

Anyone who is a child at heart, and those who have lost touch with their inner child".

2. Target Audience

Creating a series of very distinguish monsters, which encourage people to be their true selves, and find their inner child despite the standards and rules of the society.

My goal is to make my thesis monsters into a brand called BiliBalaBoom. BiliBalaBoom is an expression that is said right before the magic happens, just like abracadabra. BiliBalaBoom will give people a chance to relive their childhood fantasy, which will launch in May, 2012. BiliBalaBoom is a brand base on these monsters who reminds people of their childhood’s dreams, and encourage them to follow their heart, even though they might be different from the mainstream. Just like the spirthey might be different from the mainstream. Just like the spir-its that monsters have, they keep their original characteristics, and do not deny themselves for being different. This is why these monsters are unique, distinct, and remarkable. My mon-sters tell people that it is okay to be different; it is okay to be not accepted by the majority and not part of the mainstream. The most important thing is to be honest to oneself and to nurture your little monster.

4. Format / Media

BiliBalaBoom will spread this encouragement in a variety of approaches. Starting with building an official web site, I will send out this encouraging message via Internet. The reason that I want to start with the official web is because it is the fastest and the easiest way to spread my message to the world. For Example,

1. Books and Comics Telling stories of people trusting their heart, and finding their inner child despite the standards and rules of the soci-ety.

2. Bags and Clothes Recalling your little monster who lives in your deepest heart by transforming into one.

3. Dolls and Toys Your little monsters materialized. Let your monster sit on your shelf or let it lay next to you while you sleep and dream like a child every night.

4. Online interactive games Which monster is living inside you? Upload your photos online and the computer will give you the answer.

6. Concerns

My monsters will be cartoony like what we draw in child-hood. They are not confined to the mainstream ideas of beauty, but they are very confident. So, they are all wearing bright primary and neon colors with really dra-matic gestures, which we all did in our childhood.

5. Aesthetic / Stylistic Direction

I am very confident of what I am going to make, in terms of the production. My only concern is that my communi-cation skills might not get my ideas across and cause misunderstandings.

2. Peter Pan: The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up

The story of Peter Pan is also a great historical example of fighting to keep the purity of the child’s heart. As they try to protect their inner child, they struggle with respon-sibilities that appear as they grow up.

3. Takashi Murakami

While Murakami does not address the loss of innoWhile Murakami does not address the loss of inno-cence, he glorifies Japanese subcultures. The Japanese anime/comic subculture, also known as otaku culture, was not a mainstream in Japanese society. However, Murakami incorporates this subculture into his world of art. As an artist, Murakami pushes the boundary be-tween high and low art. Beyond the apparent “cuteness” of his work, there are messages in the layers beneath. Moreover, he is also an example of someone who not only works within the art world, but also collaborates with fashion films, etc. In doing so, Murakami has trans-formed the otaku culture, which was looked down upon, into popular culture.

The brand Ugly Dolls started from a love story. David The brand Ugly Dolls started from a love story. David Horvath, the founder, wrote a letter to Sun-Min Kim ac-companied by one of his characters Wage saying, “Let’s work hard to make our dreams come true so we can be together again soon”. In response, Sun-Min sewed a doll of Wage as a surprise gift for David. This eventually evolved into a line of plushie toys and books.

B. Mokuyobi Threads

Julie Pinzur started from a background in illustration, Julie Pinzur started from a background in illustration, drawing lots of childhood objects such as pencils, robots and toys. When she was still in college, she started her own company, Mokuyobi Threads, by designing clothes and accessories. She combined her illustrations with her interest in sewing, and she successfully lauched her own product line. She just graduated from Parsons last year, I feel like she is the youngest precedent to me at year, I feel like she is the youngest precedent to me at this point, and definitely gives me the most motivation.
