SECTION 1

Introduction

1.1 About the OER

The present open education resource (OER) is a collection of Wordpress and MOODLE

Lesson activities. The activities are useful as out-of-class learning while flipping the

classroom and in class assignments to be used by instructor. There are videos for self

learning of the basic concepts of thermal sciences, out of class assignments to evaluate the

leaning of the subject for students and class presentations and laboratory assignments

for the use of instructor.

The OER can be download from

https://thermalenggoer.wordpress.com/

Open Education Resource

Target Audience: Second, Third year Mechanical Engineering

Tags: Thermal Engineering, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer,

Refrigeration, Air Conditioning

OER developed in Wordpress and MOODLE 2.3

You are free to use, distribute and modify it, including for commercial purposes,

provided you acknowledge the source and share-alike.

SECTION 2

Design Decisions

2.1 Nature of Decisions taken

The design decisions involved in the creation of this OER were of broadly four types:

1. Content Decisions

2. Pedagogic Decisions

3. Technology Decisions

4. Work Distribution

2.1.1 Content Decisions

These are the decisions taken related to topics to be covered, sequence of the content, etc

a) The topics to be covered in the OER are related to the domain expertise of the team

members i.e. Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Refrigeration

b) Description of basics of above topics to be provided

c) Laboratory assignemnts and class presentations of heat transfer to be provided for the

use of instructor

d) For self assessment of the students and for class assessment quizzes to be provided

6

Page 8: Thermal Engineering · 2017-10-30 · Open Education Resource Thermal Engineering Work done as part of AICTE approved FDP on Use of ICT in Education for Online and Blended Learning

2.1.2 Pedagogic Decisions

Resources for out of class activity and In class activity is to be provided in form of

screencast videos, class tutorial assignments, home assignments.

Pedagogic decisions those were taken for the Out-of-class segment are mostly related to:

Cognitive Levels of questions to be asked for out of class activity – Remember to

Apply and for In class activity – Analyze to Create Level

Assessment Strategies for out of class – Multiple choice questions, In class activity

– Subjective questions requiring hand calculations

2.1.3 Technology Decisions

For developing the Out-of-Class and In-class activities, the different technology to be

used was decided as follows;

Creation of blog on www.wordpress.com for content management

Tool to be used for creating screencast Screencast-O-Matic tool for video creation

as it s user friendly no separate installation is required as it is webbased. Can create

videos up to 15 minutes with free account.

MS Powerpoint andis to be used for creating class presentations.

Videos are to be uploaded on www.youtube.com and link is to be provided on

WordPress page for easy and self paced access.

Setting up Out-of-Class using MOODLE Lesson activity and self paced quizzes on

MOODLE for assessment.

Use of Google form for short quizzes in and out class activity

Creating a padlet on www.padlet.com for students to post the questions and peer

to answer.
