The Norris family, Green Intermediate School, and the entire community of Green lost a very special little girl, Julia Norris, this past April when she passed away as a result of a malignant brain tumor. After this tragedy, the Norris’, the families of Green Intermediate School and of the community came together to create a memorial reading space for students to relax, read and enjoy new books. On behalf of the Norris family and our family at Green Intermediate, we would like to thank the

Celebrating the Life of

Julia Norrishundreds of people who donated to this memorial. Many, many books will be

purchased to honor Julia’s love of family, sports and reading. We would also like to thank Barrington Carpet for donating our awesome story rug, and we would like to thank Target and WalMart for donating the beanbags for our students. We appreciate everyone’s help in celebrating the life of Julia Norris.

Julia’s Place is now complete and ready for students. Many

WHAT IS REFLECTIONS? The Ohio PTA, through National PTA, holds an annual cultural arts program, Reflections. Children in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas: literature, visual arts, photography, Dance Choreography, Film/Video and mu-sical composition. The Reflections program allows PTAs throughout the state to recognize children for their creativity in portraying yearly themes.

The 2014-2015 theme is: The world would be a better place if…

If your child would like to get in-volved… have them start thinking about and creating a work of art in one (or more) of the six categories that fit this year’s theme. There are specific guidelines to follow

Green Girl Scouts supported the PTA sponsored Blessings In a Backpack by selling breakfast treats at GIS. In the last 12 months, a total of $1,123 has been raised by Girl Scout Troops

The Family Program Unit within each level of the

PTA (elementary, primary, intermediate and high school) will be adding to its goals this

year. Beyond planning family

events, the Family Program Unit will now also assist families

connecting people who are relocating to Green or who are

from other countries. Our goal is to embrace the

beautiful things that make Green diverse and to help connect all

Band...Written by Rachel Prit-chard, Mr. Wolfe’s 5th grade class

With so many 5th and 6th graders doing extracurricular activi-ties, many families and students are curious what is going on. So I

asked Mr. Lockstedt a few questions.

Rachel: On the first day, how much time do you spend getting instruments put together?Mr. Lockstedt: “Almost a whole class period,” says Mr. Lockstedt.Rachel: How long does it take to perfect a new note?Mr. Lockstedt: “To learn a note it would take a day or two, but to perfect a new note it would take a lifetime.”Rachel: Why do you enjoy being a band teacher?Mr. Lockstedt: “I get to watch kids make music.”Rachel: What are the benefits of being in band for your students?Mr. Lockstedt: “They get to be in a big community.” I also attended rent night and found out more about band. Many of the things Mr. Lockstedt said are, “What makes us human are the arts.” Also, “Students are able to express their feelings through music.” Lastly, “Stu-dents help each other succeed in band.” If you want to join band you can visit Mr. Lockstedt during your study hall. There are various instruments from brass and woodwinds you can choose from. The doors are open to everybody.

We are one band, one team.
