Mirvish Village// History
The Honest Ed’s store that now dominates the south west corner of Bloor and Bathurst fi rst opened in the 1940’s occupying a small retail space just east of Markham on Bloor. Over the following decades ‘Honest’ Ed Mirvish continued to acquire property surrounding the Honest Ed’s store, allowing for its continued expansion.
In the 1960’s, Ed Mirvish purchased most of the Victorian homes along Markham Street, with the intention of creating a parking lot for the steadily growing store. Due to resistance from Toronto Council, the parking lot was downsized and the homes along Markham were preserved. Mirvish began fi ling these residential
By the mid 1980’s, the Mirvish family had consolidated all of the lands that make up the development site, and Honest Ed’s had expanded to occupy the entire Bloor frontage between Markham and Bathurst Streets, as well as a signifi cant portion of the Bathurst frontage south of Bloor.

Mirvish Village Market will be the heart and sole of the Annex and Mirvish Village: over 30 permanent vendors and 40+ temporary kiosks will offer locally sourced fresh and prepared food, crafts, art and curiosities.
The market is an essential ingredient for the re-imagined Mirvish Village development. It is envisioned as a vibrant
community gathering space and extension of the Mirvish Village public realm. The market will encourage a range of community benefits, from supporting a complete community, creating small business opportunities, preserving and promoting local foods and agriculture.
