There is a vast Difference between Teaching and Controlling

your Children

Parents especially need to teach and educate children about life in the right way. Rules cannot be imposed; they have to be understood. Parents do not need to control their

children; they need to teach their children what is right and what is wrong.

Children always learn from what’s taught to them and they will mirror what is being taught to them, along with various behaviours they are exposed to. This they bring out when they are at the nursery, in school and among peers in the classroom as well. The behaviours that they reflect and put on are heavily influenced by those they live with. These may be picked up from

elder siblings or parents and at times even their nannies.

It is vital that children are not exposed to something that is immoral or unethical simply because they would begin to accept that as the norm and would often find themselves in a situation where they would be left out from the crowd because of what they think.

Parents especially need to teach and educate children about life in the right way. Rules cannot be imposed; they have to be understood. Parents do not need to control their children; they need to teach their children what is right and what is wrong. This alone can avoid bad characters that children put on as they grow up because they have been told to listen and follow, rather than to understand and reason, between right and wrong.

Parents also need to keep in mind that teaching is very different from controlling. A parent who controls

a child in and about, would end up with a child who blindly follows out of fear rather than understand the ‘what’s’ and ‘why’s’ about how society functions or how things work. This will in turn make them carry on with the other challenges that they face in life, as they grow up, in a similar manner.

Parents who teach their children about the rules and basics of social behaviour take a different approach and will have all the necessary patience to ensure that everything is taught and not force fed into the child’s mind. This allows for a better understanding and helps children to reason and think as to ‘why do they have to behave when amongst elders?’ or “why do they have to learn or study?” Children need to know about the facts of life early, so that they can apply what they have learnt and help build a better future for themselves as they grow up. What this also does, is that it allows children to choose for themselves by communicating directly with

their surrounding environment. Teaching your children instead of controlling them also helps them to become better decision makers this is why most nurseries in Dubai follow the same principle, by enacting through plays and skits about good and bad behaviour and about how people accept it. Teachers in many international nurseries in Dubai as well as abroad have been well trained to teach and not control children. Teaching children in a warm and friendly manner automatically brings them under their own control and understanding; which is why most prefer to do it that way although it is a tough option.
