How I wish you were here to hear the Prince’s speech, oh what a powerful and

commanding speech it was. The Ruler had just returned as the victor of a bloody war, the echo

of triumph reached the ears of the King, who promptly rejoiced at his son Romeo’s bravery. I

look forward to your return, walking through banyan, keeping no mind of the hour as we tango

the night away, drinking whiskey and reveling in nonspeech, oh how I miss those nights. The

brisk November air now tangos with banyan, keep yourself warm, my dear one. Very soon we

will foxtrot, and go round the world, we will see India and places even Prince Romeo himself has

not seen. We will be at the table’s mercy, eating foreign foods under sierra skies and tango while

drinking whiskey. Chaos cares not for plans, and Prince Romeo’s wife has cut off trade with the

citadel, take care and stay safe.

Assemble these 24 squares to form a 4×4 cube with four squares on each side such that every face and 16-cell band wrapping around the cube contains each letter from A through P exactly once. The letters on each face should all have the same orientation, although this may not necessarily hold for adjacent faces. The thick lines form the edges of the cube. Once you are done, look through the O’s on the completed cube and unscramble the letters to reveal the final answer.

Dwarf’s rules:

Now we’re doing acrobatics? Ugh. Move the first vowel three spaces to the right, and don’t

pay attention for one turn.

Finally, a battle! Change the weapon in your phrase to your currently held weapon and reveal

your battle cry.

Ooh, fire! That should keep me attentive and warm! Remove any instance of BR from the

phrase, but don’t stop paying attention

What possible use is a perception check? Replace the first word in your phrase with WATCH,

and don’t pay attention for two turns.

Oh good, a history check. Wouldn’t want to leave without a history lesson, would we? Go back

to the phrase you had two turns ago, and don’t pay attention for two turns.

A nature check, really? Remove the race of the character that just tried that, then don’t pay

attention for three turns.

Why are we thieves? Add the weapon that was just stolen to the beginning of the phrase, then

don’t pay attention for two turns.

We’re talking to people. How could stealth possibly be useful here? Remove the letters, H,I,D,

and E and stop paying attention for three turns.

Diplomacy, what a useless skill! Add WORD to the end of the phrase, then stop paying

attention for one turn.

Your party consists of you (the dwarf), an Elf, a Deva, and an Orc. The party enters a local

blacksmith’s shop to get some more information and possibly equipment. Unfortunately, do-

ing this will require some dialog, and dialog is boring! While everyone else in the party is

busy talking and not fighting, you’ll just scribble on your paper.

A turn of dialog consists of 1) The blacksmith doing something, 2) Another party member doing something, and 3) Your reaction, or lack thereof. The dwarf should write the word MYSELF down at the beginning.

It’s recommended to do this with three people: one playing the dwarf, one the blacksmith,

and one for the rest of the party.

Blacksmith’s rules:

The party walks into your shop. Tell them “Greetings, travellers. I’m selling these fine leath-er armors. Would you care to purchase any?”

You’ve been informed that the party is in search of weapons. Inform them that you have just received a shipment of magic weapons from the elemental planes. Hand the Deva a ROD.

They’re trying to determine your supplier so they can cut out the middleman. You’re clearly too smart for this! “My suppliers remain my secret. Being the only one who buys from them ensures that I have the best price in town!”

Fantastic, someone is interested in the price of an item! Luckily, your prices are simple, eve-rything is exactly 12,000 gold pieces! That is, unless they’ve tried to charm you by compli-menting your hairstyle. Then it’s half that price. You’re such a sucker for hair compliments. Tell the party the price.

Oh no! Fire is the one thing you’ve truly feared all your life, ever since you watched your pet turtle dying because he was set on fire…by you. Scream that whoever knocked that over is a stupid oaf, while producing your secret defense against fire, a FIRE RESISTANT CLOAK, from behind the counter. Its magical properties quickly douse the fire.

Someone is eyeing your precious cloak. “Forget it! This isn’t for sale!” You put the cloak back behind the counter, and instead offer “Perhaps you would like an AXE or MACE?” Hand an AXE to the Deva and a MACE to the Orc.

Someone has complimented you on the quality of these weapons. Proudly reply “Thank you! My work is well known throughout the city. I single handedly crafted that just last week!”

Shifty glances, this can only spell trouble. Ask what is wrong. Someone has asked about the history of an inscription. ““Sometimes I get bored in the

shop and doodle on the weapons. But don’t change the subject! What are you planning on doing to me?” you say, clearly on edge.

A character has just tried to calm you down and failed. They’re clearly after your precious cloak! Rush behind the counter to hide the cloak while screaming incoherently.

Someone attempted to move stealthily around your shop. You hear them immediately as they inadvertently step on the bubble wrap you had carefully laid out all around your shop. You laugh maniacally and say “You will never find my master! Gnomes, attack!” Several gnomes run from the back room, popping bubble wrap the entire way.

Elf’s rules

Someone’s trying to sell you armor. Armor isn’t important if you have enough weapons. Luckily, you roll thievery and successfully steal a BRAND from near the door as you walk in. You hand this quietly to the Orc to hide while you ask about purchasing weapons.

You’ve just seen the blacksmith put out a fire with the cloak. You are impressed, and begin eyeing it heavily. You roll nature to see if it is all natural. Although it does appear to have something su-pernatural in it, you also determine that it is fair trade and organic, and therefore probably ok.

The blacksmith has now been reduced to incoherent screaming and obsessively protecting that cloak. It must be important! Tell the orc to continue attempting to calm down the incoherent blacksmith while you stealthily attempt to move to the other side of the room. Roll stealth.

Deva’s rules

You are handed a ROD. Pass your STAFF to the dwarf to hold for the time being. Ask about who sells the blacksmith these weapons.

The quoted price is over 10,000 gold pieces and you stumble backwards. In your clumsiness, you knock over a small cauldron of fire.

You notice you’ve heard two different accounts about where a weapon is from. This simply does not compute. Hand the AXE to the dwarf and roll insight to see if he is lying. He appears to be lying about the fact that he made this weapon. Shiftily glance at the Orc.

The blacksmith is clearly agitated about what is going on. “We are just confused because you said that you shipped these items in from the elemental planes, and then said you manufactured them yourself. We don’t want to hurt you.” Make a diplomacy check to calm him down. This fails mis-erably. You aren’t a very diplomatic person.

Orc’s rules

The blacksmith has just proclaimed that he has the best prices in town. You’re suspicious about

this claim. Roll streetwise. You find that he is the only seller in town, and thus not only has the

best prices, but also the worst. Ask about the cost.

You have just been offered a weapon. You gaze upon its construction and are impressed. That

isn’t particularly difficult, however, as weapons from your hometown are mostly rocks, sticks, or

rocks tied to sticks. Roll perception to find any defects. You find none, and comment on the quali-

ty of the construction to the blacksmith.

The blacksmith just asked what’s wrong. You attempt to distract him by commenting on the

MACE. “I see there are some odd inscriptions on the haft of this mace. Are they from an ancient

civilization?” You roll history to determine what the inscriptions mean. You don’t know. You dum-

my.

Enemies have entered the room. You call to your party members, “Time for battle!”

It Was a Tournament to Remember...

The King: Recently we had a big tournament, worth being immortalized in the chronicles of my kingdom. Unfortunately, the court scribe misplaced the record of the final event, and we need to restore it. Three knights advanced to the finals: sir Alynore, sir Boras and sir Curtis. In the finals, each of them fought each other once, for a total of three duels. Go talk to them, and reconstruct the events of the finals. Sir Alynore: (1.1) In the first duel I defeated the knight in red armor. (1.2) In the second duel the knight on piebald horse lost to the knight in black armor. (1.3) In the third duel I defeated sir Boras. Sir Boras: (2.1) In the first duel the knight in red armor has beaten the knight on chestnut horse. (2.2) In the second duel I was beaten by sir Alynore. (2.3) In the third duel I have beaten the knight in black armor. Sir Curtis: (3.1) In the first duel the knight in red armor fought the knight on palomino horse. (3.2) In the second duel I won against sir Boras. (3.3) In the third duel I won against the knight in gold armor. Puzzled, you return to the King, who says: I see you've already met my knights? Alas, none of them is fully reliable in his reports. One of them is a liar, and his stories always have something that is not true; you’d better not trust him at all. Another we call sir Boast-a-Lot: he always claims that he has won all his duels, but other than that, he’s accurate. The accounts of the third one are always true, with one exception: he is new to the court, and he can never get any names right. Does that help you to sort out the story?

Hoggle is commanded by Jareth, the Goblin King, to create a maze, but he also wants to help Sarah escape. He decides to make a maze with a twisted path through it. Draw one diagonal wall from corner to corner in every square to create a maze. The numbers indicate how many lines touch that corner. Not all corners provide that information. Do not draw lines such that you form a closed shape/loop. From every point in the maze you should be able to reach an edge. When you are done, follow the path that connects the left side to the right side. Read the letters in the squares that the path only crosses once.

Nightmare

Scary things lurk in the dark. Some mirrors have been set up in these six rooms so you can see the monsters better. Each square that doesn’t have a mirror must contain a monster. The numbers above the grid indicate how many of each monster are in the grid. The numbers around the grid indicate the number of monsters visible from that starting position. Ghosts (G) can only be seen by reflecting off a mirror. Vampires (V) can be seen directly, but they cast no reflection. Zombies (Z) can be seen both ways. After you solve the grids, feel around in the dark for the vampires and unscramble the letters to find the hidden monster.

Orcs

First you should look at the sitting area at the front of the house.

That’s where you’ll find an orc all by himself. His final action was

to separate from his mate. The last thing you should do is be too

aggressive. Offer him the tail of a killer whale. If pleased he’ll give

you the penultimate petal of delicate flower. If he is displeased

he’ll give you his second to last quilled animal.

Unfortunately, the ritual to drive out his demons is the last thing

you want to do. You’ll see a line of cars approach a second later.

The first to emerge carries a burning wooden stick. It is another

lone orc. You might think witchcraft is at an end. But he’ll have

two marks where a fireball has burnt him. You’ll just catch the last

note of music that sounds symphonic. In the middle of all of this

you’ll see a female wizard.
