PRE-K

We are learning about farm animals in Pre-K. We are learning animal songs, reading some stories about farm animals and building our own farm! Some animals came to visit our classroom. It was very exciting! We had two white rabbits last week. This week a baby chick visited the classes. The children asked lots of questions…What do they eat? Can they walk? Do they sleep? Where is their food? What kind of house do they have? Did the chick come from an egg? Where are their mummies?

Our farm shop will open this week. The children will be selling lots of different types of fruit and vegetables. They will also sell honey, eggs, milk and all sorts of farm produce.

KG1

KG1’s IPC topic is ‘Food and Shopping’. The children have had a wonderful time creating collages, fruit and vegetable faces and most recently cooking alongside mums and dads. Each class has had the opportunity to make quesadillas, cookies, fruit skewers, mini pizzas and have enjoyed tasting each of these. Last week KG1 went on a trip to More Café. They worked together to sort food into healthy foods that we grow and not so healthy foods that we make. They coloured in pictures and stuck them onto a picture of a kitchen or a picture of the outdoors (ground and trees). The children had the opportunity to taste different condiments and herbs such as balsamic vinegar, tomato ketchup, mayonnaise, coriander and mint. They were then invited to make their very own sandwich using chicken, cheese and salad. We all enjoyed a sit down lunch, mums and teachers included and a great day was had by all.

KG2

Over the last two weeks KG2 have been exploring their artistic side under the inspiration of Claude Monet. They recreated his floral landscapes using water colours as part of our IPC topic. They also created a beach collage to represent the Caribbean counting rhyme we did in class in our new Literacy unit Poetry. They had great fun coming up with rhyming words and sentences to describe their creations.

GRADE 1

As part of our IPC topic ‘How are you?’ Grade 1 learned about their 5 senses. The children explored the importance senses, how they allow us to learn, to protect ourselves and to enjoy our world. The children tested their senses in an exciting guessing game activity. We had great fun using our taste buds to try out different foods and guessing what they were. The children did a fantastic job guessing sounds and playing memory games. After we explored our senses the children wrote their own poems about senses titled ‘What a wonderful world I live in’.
