What are the issues addressed?

-Machines takes away the process of creation and thus the soul of the things create-It causes us to be willing to accept ‘canned’ version of things that are easily duplicated- Machines do not have will and is determined by human. But humans have greed

What are the design methods/strategy/theories proposed?

-Master the Machine, and use it to create things with life.-Architecture should have a third dimension: in a spiritual sense

What are the issues addressed?

-Symbolic and representation elements contradict to form, structure and programme. -Some of the construction and programme are ordinary and conventional and its physical looks reflects that identity whereas some building does not reflect so even the programme are conventional and ordinary. - The representation of the function of the building through its symbolic form or it being decorated with symbols.

What are the design methods/strategy/theories proposed?

The theories proposed are first, building-become-sculpture is architectural systems of space, structure, space, and program which are submerged and distorted by an overall symbolic form. Second, the decorated shed are the systems of space and structure which directly serves the program and is ornaments are designed separately from them.

Modernist architecture, in its pursuit of honest architecture, stripping off ornamentation, and rejecting symbolism, has resulted in creating forms that are sculptural and symbolic

shed. This is because the shape itself are looking like a football which justify it being a football building. However, the signboard is there to name its function and the labelling make it a decorated shed at the same time.

What are the issues addressed?

- Architecture no longer relates to its background and purpose.

- The experience of the building isn’t given much emphasis when designing.

- Lack of comprehension of the essence of art which result in architects naively using forms to create architecture.

What are the design methods/strategy/theories proposed?

- Seek the inner language of the building- Use childhood memories as a way of analysis to design- Architecture directly expresses the human existence- Architecture is a result of the art intergrating all these

elements, NOT a summation of plays of forms.- Architecture is the experience and dialogue between the

building the individual users, whereby all other noise and people fade away into secondary importance.

This is the most poetic space in the building as it evokes memories to the people via different sense. It is a massive grave and invites the people to walk on the faces and listen to the sound of metal sheets.

Besides, it is very emotional as it is a very tall void. Lastly, the smell of the rust that evoke the feelings of death and taste of blood.

Placelessness and lack of identity of the International Style.

Urban design has been reduced in its relevance to modern development as it no longer addressed the growth of the city but rather it is only a theory with no contextual references.

What are the design methods/strategy/theories proposed?

Emphasis on topography, climate, light, tectonic form rather than scenography.

Emphasis on tactile sense rather than the visual.

Connecting people to the cultural context through the built form to form placeness.

China pavilion Expo 2010, Shanghai, China.

The architectonic feature of the building was inspired by the Chinese roof bracket known as the dougong as well as the Chinese ding vessel. It has a sense of regionalism and contextualism as it reflects the culture and methods of construction used in China.
