Transcript of Theoretical Background of the Problem: The lack of awareness regarding Educational Standards
At an age in which social development represents one of the countries of the
world’s main concern, negative aspects of our idiosyncrasy can turn into hindrances
when it comes to attaining any improvementon that matter
Venezuela is well known to be a beautiful
country whose people are very welcomingand kind and a lucky place for all of itsbreath-taking natural wonders andresources; however, in regards to a mutualdesire of self-accomplishment….
Our society has a long way to go.
The McClelland center for research and innovation (1974) conducted a behavioral study
focalizing the highest motivation of Venezuelans…
a mid-highinclination towards
affiliation
Achievement makes you set high standards and take challenges;
this kind of motivation is due to ultimately build up a healthy
achievement-oriented attitude in life.
Affiliation is more related to keeping
good inter-personal relationships as an individual’s feeling of stability (which is highly linked to Maslow`s
hierarchy of needs)
It showed a generally
low inclination
towards achievement
And preponderantpower-directed motivation.
Motivation directed by power values obedience and superiority over anything else
This includes: government centralism, public officer’s authoritarianism, little care for
achievement and corruption; none of them
beneficial whatsoever.
All these ideas bring us to a reflective query:
Why are other countries
such as Japan, United States or France getting ahead in
developmental issues while we seem to
continually be lagging behind?
Education and culture, in this sense, may lead towards either the blossoming of progress or
total failure of a society.
Is this kind of motivation in our society the reason of our generalized lateness?
Japan is situated amongst the mostindustrialized, technologically advanced yetculturally conservative and socially harmoniouscountries nowadays.
It is affirmed that Japan’s spiritual richness and determination towards giving their best
for their country is the product of a strong feeling of cooperation built up out of years
of hardship in an agricultural past.
Perseverance and hard work bring success in life…
Japan
As for European societies it is known they have a different outlook regarding social improvement:
unity.
FranceSpain
Germany
Europe
North AmericaNorth America, stands
out for its individualistic
and highly competitive society
Their motto is….
“Time is money”
When it comes to Venezuelan post-secondary
education is commonplace to experience confliction between the use of foreign methods of study, or
strategies designed for a more educationally involved audience and which won’t match Venezuelan lacking
educational standards.
The ironic point is that instead of leading every possible directive towards
reconsidering the value of knowledge and worthy dose of effort it demands, faculty
members will usually end up reducing any difficulty (read quality) in the program so
that everyone is comfortable.
Added to this, there is the negatively practical way of thinking of Venezuelans in terms of
study, work, and self-accomplishment.
We believe necessary an educational approach that highlights the importance of widening the horizons of cultural understanding through educational strategies that lead us towards learning about other societies and what makes them successful.
This approach shall emphasize the value of ethics, study habits, perseverance and assiduity
in learning, respect for fellow humans, cooperation and lastly the thorough discussion
regarding solutions for social issues.
Among these strategies, we propose: debates, presentations, conversational clubs and
the like, in order for positive comparison to take place among us all as students and systematically
strengthen shortcomings of our attitude.
