MPLAB REAL ICE In-Circuit Emulator System is Microchip’s latest generation high speed emulator for Microchip Flash DSC® and MCU devices. It debugs and programs PIC® and dsPIC® microcontrollers with the easy-to-use but powerful graphical user interface of the MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE), included with each kit. The MPLAB REAL ICE probe is connected to the design engineer's PC using a high-speed USB 2.0 interface and is connected to the target with either a connector compatible with the popular MPLAB ICD 2 system (RJ11)either a connector compatible with the popular MPLAB ICD 2 system (RJ11) or with the new high speed, noise tolerant, low voltage differential signal (LVDS) interconnection (CAT5).

MPLAB® ICD 2 is a low cost, real-time debugger and programmer for selected PIC® MCUs and dsPIC® DSCs. Using Microchip Technology's proprietary in-circuit debug functions programs can be downloadedproprietary in-circuit debug functions, programs can be downloaded, executed in real time and examined in detail with the debug functions of the MPLAB IDE. Set watch variables and breakpoints from symbolic labels in C or assembly source code, and single step through C source lines or into assembly code. MPLAB ICD 2 can also be used as a development programmer for supported MCUs.

I would like to introduce you to the PICDEM FS USB Demo Board. This board is now in production and can be purchased from buy microchip com or any Microchip’s distributors Itproduction and can be purchased from buy.microchip.com or any Microchip s distributors. It provides a hardware platform for demonstrating the USB capability of the PIC18F4550 family of devices.

Take a look this board, it is designed to be simple with expansion capability.

<Number 1 – Point to the screen>This is the 18F4550, around it are pads <#2> for the ICE2000 emulator socket.

<Number 4>These jumpers are for selecting legacy or dedicated ICD2 port. The 18F4550 is the first device to support this feature. The advantage of using the dedicated ICD2 pins is the RB6 and RB7 pins are free to be used as general I/O pins during debugging.

The pads at J6 and J7 (item 5 on the diagram) are provided for users to install header and directly access the microcontroller’s I/O port signals. In addition, the 14 even-numbered pins of J6 (those on the right side as viewed from the top) serve as the interface for Microchip’sof J6 (those on the right side as viewed from the top) serve as the interface for Microchip s PICtail daughter boards. This allows the PICDEM FS USB board to be used as a test platform and USB communications interface for the PICtail boards.

Part Number: MA180021The PIC18F87J50 FS USB Plug-In Module (PIM) is a USB 2.0 full speed and low speed demonstration and development board featuring the PIC18F87J50. This PIM is recommended as an initial USB development platform for applications that will be using any of the PIC18F87J50 family microcontrollers, such as the PIC18F67J50, PIC18F65J50, PIC18F85J50, etc.

The PIM can be operated either stand alone, or it may be plugged into the popular PICDEM HPC Explorer Board (www.microchipDIRECT.com part number DM183022) for additional functionality. The PICtail Daughter Board for SD and MMC cards (AC164122) is a universal board that interfaces the Secure Digital (SD) and Multi-Media Card (MMC) to the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus of the microcontroller. This PICtail board is designed to operate with a multitude of demonstration boards, including all those having PICtail signals, those with PICtail Plus signals (utilizing the card-edge connectors like the Explorer 16), and those with non-standard PICtail signals.

The USB PICtail. Plus Daughter Board is a USB demonstration board for evaluating Microchip Technology’s 16 and 32-bit USB product lines using the Explorer 16 development board.

The USB PICtail Plus Daughter Board is attached to the Explorer 16The USB PICtail Plus Daughter Board is attached to the Explorer 16 Development Board, either through the J5 connector, or by attaching to the edge of the Explorer 16 via the horizontal PICtail Plus Daughter Board connection interface. The USB PICtail Plus Daughter Board is capable of sourcing 100 mA to VBUS when operating as an embedded host or in OTG mode. If the desired application requires more than100 mA for an embedded host application, then a +5V power supply must be attached to the +5V rail yof the Explorer 16. OTG applications are limited to sourcing 100 mA on VBUS.
