The Industrial Internet & the Industrial Internet Consor2um Reference Architecture
Stephen Mellor Chief Technical Officer
Industrial Internet Consor9um
What we do
The goal of the IIC is to drive innova3on.
Testbeds Innova&on to drive new products, processes, services
Technology & Security Interoperability and security provided by open architecture and security & privacy framework
IIC Ecosystem A public-‐private community to advance innova&on & best prac&ces, providing insights and thought leadership Products Services
Methodologies

The IIC and standards organiza9ons
3
The IIC is not a standards organiza3on. The IIC will: • establish a reference architecture • evaluate exis3ng standards against it • iden3fy requirements, and • propose these requirements to standards organiza3ons
The IIC evaluates and organizes exis3ng standards to:
• advocate for open standard technologies,
• influence global standards development

Technology Working Group
Charter: To define and develop common architectures, by selec3ng from standards available to all, from open, neutral, interna3onal, consensus organiza3ons and reviewing relevant technologies that comprise the ecosystems that will make the industrial internet work. The Technology WG presently has four task groups:
• Architecture • Use cases • Data Management and Analy3cs • Vocabulary

Security Working Group
Charter: The Security Working Group will define a security and privacy framework to be applied to technology adopted by the IIC. The framework will establish best prac3ces and be used to iden3fy security gaps in exis3ng technologies.

The Plan
13
The Reference Architecture lays out: • the elements and • the rela3onships between them
Standards
14
Standards populate the rooms. We then: • Iden3fy gaps • Write requirements to fill them • Request standards organiza3ons to fulfill them
