Still time to catch...

Saturday 4 December 2010 – Sunday 16 January 2011

AladdinDon’t leave it any longer to book for our spectacular pantomime packed with comedy, stunning sets, beautiful costumes and an array of outstanding 3D special effects.

Television stars Stephen Mulhern and Gray O’Brien are joined by a very special co-star this year in the form of Nottingham’s first ever 3D Genie. Wearing 3D glasses at points during the pantomime, you can rub the magic lamp as it hovers in front of your nose, and see the magical Genie rise from his lamp and move around the auditorium. Further 3D wizardry will transform the stage into a cave of riches where Aladdin finds his fortune, as well as transporting you on an amazing 3D carpet ride!

Combining all the elements of traditional family pantomime with state-of-the-art effects, Aladdin is unmissable entertainment for all ages.

Tuesday 25 – Saturday 29 JanuaryMatthew Bourne’s

Cinderella Music by Prokofiev

New Adventures’ new production of Cinderella is a thrilling and evocative journey through London during the Second World War. Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of Prokofiev’s haunting score has, at its heart, a true wartime romance. A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.

Cinderella is both a tribute and a testament to the spirit of London during a time when every second counted and lives were changed forever. Bourne’s vivid storytelling has never been more heart-stopping and touching, creating a unique and unforgettable depiction of a familiar and beloved fable.

‘ A dazzling spectacle... fresh and vital, hilarious, profound and stunningly original’ The Times

‘ Heartbreaking. Takes one back to the core of the Cinderella story and Prokofiev’s score’ Financial Times

Hamletby William Shakespeare

O, that this too too solid flesh would melt

Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, sees his father’s ghost. Tormented with loathing and consumed by grief, he must avenge his father’s murder. What he cannot foresee is the destruction that ensues.

Nicholas Hytner, Director of the National Theatre, directs Shakespeare’s great 1601 tragedy, which opens in London prior to a UK tour. Rory Kinnear plays Hamlet. He has previously appeared at the National in Burnt by the Sun, The Revenger’s Tragedy, Philistines and The Man of Mode for which he won an Olivier Award. He is joined by Clare Higgins as Gertrude, whose celebrated roles at the National include All’s Well That Ends Well, Oedipus, Major Barbara and Vincent in Brixton (Olivier Award for Best Actress).

The North Sea off the Suffolk coast sets the scene for Britten’s Four Sea Interludes before the young Ukrainian Valeriy Sokolov gives his violin a Gaelic outing in Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy, full of haunting folk tunes and lively reels. Tchaikovsky’s untimely end, just days after the première of his Sixth Symphony, has added extra poignancy to his most emotive musical statement.
