The Young Man’s Prostate Gland

The Young man’s Prostate Gland is also not free from prostate cancer.

Aging is no longer the Problem Though it is believed to be disease of the

aging men. Young men in 30’s, 40’s, 50’s are now

demonstrating prostate diseases

THE PROSTATE GLAND

I call the prostate gland the powerhouse of every man.

It is pronounce prostate and not prostrate! It is located below a man’s urinary bladder It is not a taboo as a man to have the

prostate gland It plays a significance role in a man’s life

Knowing your Prostate

The Prostate Gland Stages in Life

The adult prostate gland grows and develops in an age-dependent manner.

In aged males this development gives rise to abnormalities which are benign [benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)] and/or malignant (prostate cancer)

It goes through Four Main stages in life

Page 6: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’ Right from birth the prostate gland is small like a marble After Puberty it goes through the second stage In our young and middle adulthood it goes through the third stage. Here, it is like a size of a golf ball, others say Walnut or garden eggs So, in a healthy states, it should stay at this condition for many,

many years to come! It is at this stage that preventive measures have their greatest effect Finally, after 40yrs, the final development starts. Now what ever

happens to the prostate gland here depends upon it use in young and middle adulthood

Page 7: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

The Prostate and the Breast

Just as a healthy breast is also good for men. A healthy prostate is also good for women, because the nerves that help men get erections surrounds the prostate so if the nerves get damage the man is in doom, no sex life and also affects the woman.

Satanic forces can affect the prostate gland

Page 8: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Types of Satanic forces that affect the Prostate Gland There are about three satanic forces that

can torment the prostate gland. The cells in the prostate can increase that

can lead to enlarged prostate-BPH It can also be infected –Prostatitis Demons like cancer can affect it

Page 9: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

The Demon call prostate cancer

The demon-Prostate cancer is abnormal growth of cells in the prostate gland. The cells don’t know how to obey the body system but rather do what ever they want with the body

They can spread fast or slow A healthy cell does not turn into a cancer cell overnight.

Its behaviour gradually changes, a result of damage to between three and seven of the hundreds of genes that control cell growth, division and life span.

Page 10: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

First, the cell starts to grow and multiply. Over time, more changes may take place.

The cell and its descendants may eventually become immortal, escape destruction by the body's defences, develop their own blood supply and invade the rest of body

Page 11: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

My Research on Cancer

In my PhD in prostate cancer journey, I realized that for one, our cells don’t get cancer. They can’t have cancer. They cancer.

Coupled with the overwhelming resignation many Ghanaians have regarding the certainty of cancer, little efforts seem to go into the ultimate cancer cure: its prevention.

By looking at the body as a complex system, whether or not we fully comprehend the system,

Page 12: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

we may very well be able to notice causal relationships between body systems that were never seen before.

Things like regular inflammation, even from wearing high-heeled shoes, can have a hand in causing a person’s cells to “cancer.”

Page 13: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

I have realized that cancer is often misunderstood by even the most respected medical professionals in the world.

Part of the problem lies in the belief that a person “gets” cancer like the way they would get cold or bacterial infection.

Page 14: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

But in reality, every cell has the ability to cancer, and a variety of factors can prompt a cell to do so.

And while most oncologists (and even leading cancer associations) consider cancer a genetic disease, I realized that this is not entirely true

Page 15: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

From my research cancer isn’t a disease of the genes, rather it’s a disease where cells evolve to look and behave a certain way, using gene alterations to get there simple.

You see when we find a way to repair one gene alteration; cancer finds an alternative route quite quickly.

Page 16: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

Cancer, therefore, occurs when genes within a cell lose their ability to regulate that cell’s growth.

These disobedient cells don’t know how to stop multiplying or die. But all cells have the potential to lose this ability, meaning any cell can cancer at any time depending on the environment it find itself!

Page 17: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

But while one-size-fits-all “magic bullet” pharmaceuticals have found ways to cure diseases caused by invader stimuli: the answer to a disease caused by our own wayward cells may require a very different approach.

If the problem is within our system, the solution can only come from understanding how our own body works-black men!

Page 18: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

I know you may be wondering and asking if cancer is unavoidable? No. The choice to die without disease is ours to make, right now.

And I don’t know about you listeners. But trying to live my entire life cancer-free seems like a pretty formidable goal as I embark on because of my research work.

Page 19: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

I believe that unless we tackle the primary prevention of cancer i.e. stopping cancer before it starts, we are unlikely to see any improvement in the cancer situation in Ghana.

There are many barriers to action on the primary prevention of cancer; cancer is also caused by lack of political will power to fight it. In my view, the biggest barrier to addressing cancer services is the lack of action on primary prevention which necessitates greater resources into services in the first place.

Page 20: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Causes of Prostate Cancer?

It is a spectrum of diseases and not a single entity but we know of some risk factors such as:

Aging? Family History (5 -10%) Race-just being a black man-Biochemical

difference-low level of Vitamin D

Page 21: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Breast & Prostate Cancer are parallel Disease Family History of breast cancer put a

man at risk of prostate cancer The genes are similar(BRCA1&2) Other family history of cancers also put

you at risk

Page 22: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

My research on the causes of prostate cancer in Ghana Inherited weaknesses and disposition Our Colour Lack of vitamin D Stress Cooking Practices Our women Too much sitting Position Lack of safe sex poor sleep and not enough sleep poor water quality and air pollution poor depleted soil robbing us of nutrition Bad eating habits

Page 23: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’ Bad agricultural practices depriving us of right nutrients improper acid/alkaline balance Our diets Our Lifestyle and lack of exercise Harmful habits Toxin build -ups Not enough oxygen vaccines, medications and too many antibiotics microwaved food hormone imbalances and natural hormonal changes Hot Foods in plastic rubbers Increased in Salaries Our Women

Page 24: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Statistics 1 in 5 Ghanaian men will get

prostate cancer in their lifetime(MHFG 2015)

1 in 4 Black men will get it in their lifetime(Prostate Cancer UK 2014)

1,000 diagnosed with prostate cancer yearly and 800 die from their disease(GNA 2012)

Ghana has exceeded global prostate limits as the country records 200 cases out of every 100,000 men as against 170 world-wide(GNA 2007)

Page 25: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Prostate Cancer Disparities

Prostate cancer is a central issue to men's health, with unacceptably high mortality in black men

Breast cancer strikes 1 in 10 black women yet they have a mammogram to save lives.

Prostate cancer strikes 1 in 4 black men yet no screening test, so where is our manogram to save our lives?

Prostate cancer is more common than breast cancer.

Page 26: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

Early detection 100% survival in 5yrs , late diagnosis 28% survival in 5years.

Survival rate also depends on where men leave Prostate cancer kills a man every 18 minutes Prostate cancer discriminates 250% deadly in

black men and likely to die when diagnosed.

Page 27: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Cont’

It’s about men! It’s about prostate cancer . we need accurate diagnostic tool like the mammogram

Let us raise little David high enough to challenge Golliath, challenge the System and challenge the status quo-The PSA Test!

The cure for cancer is not a luxury, it is a human need . No man should use this need to profit for their personal gains. Something is wrong when we let people die for money

Page 28: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Warning signs of prostate cancer 47% of men with prostate cancer present with no warning signs Typical signals: Frequency of urination day time Waking up in the night to pee Straining yourself to pee There is urgency to go pee Unable to pee all out Loss of libido Erectile difficulties-sleeping on duty Blood in urine Spinal compression Wait pains

Page 29: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Screening: To do or not to?

There is no test for prostate cancer. The PSA is not tumor specific ! It is organ specific. The Prostate gland produces the PSA for several beneficial purposes and not necessary as a response to cancer

The PSA is only a test to know your risk of prostate diseases.

Page 30: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Men’s Health Foundation Ghana screening Policy For men to know their risk of prostate diseases we do: Ultrasound Request PSA IPSS to access your Prostate Health Request blood vitamin D level Screening is an informed decision and is for men 40yrs

and above and 35yrs for men with family history of disease.

Page 31: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Treatment

Treatment depends on the stage of your cancer and not all men needs treatmentRadiotherapySurgeryHormonal TherapyMonitoring –Watch & Wait, Active Surveillance

chemotherapy

Page 32: The Young Man's Prostate Gland

Alternative Treatments

There are also alternative treatments but know the background of your practitioner first.

Seek for evidence based alternative approach

It can also be combined-Integrative medicine-my approach!
