Meditation for Preparation
If my own experience can be trusted, then God does not call us once but many times. There are calls to faith and calls to ordination, but in between there are calls to particular communities and calls to particular tasks within them . . . but we are not meant to hear them all by ourselves. It was part of Gods genius to incorporate us as one body, so that our ears have other ears, other eyes, minds, hearts, and voices to help us interpret what we have heard.

Pastoral GreetingRev. Alan Sherouse
Call To WorshipLisa Irwin
We are gathered here today to worship, celebrate,
and respond to the call of God.
We have come to acknowledge Gods gifts in each other
and in the invitation of one among us to serve.
We have come to reaffirm our own callings, to remember Gods call to each of us.
God be with us so that our lips speak words of grace and hope, our feet move swiftly to assist the helpless,
our hands grow strong in the cause of love and justice,
our hearts quicken in the service of reconciliation and care,
and our spirits encourage the oppressed and neglected.
God be with us.

The Ordination Covenant
Leader: My sister in the faith, do you believe you are called by God to the life and work of vocational ministry in the name of Jesus Christ?
Kim: I do.
Leader: It is no longer I who live but Christ who lives in me. Will you endeavor to be diligent in your practice of the Christian life: reading the Bible, continuing steadfastly in prayer, and seeking daily to follow Christ?
Kim: I will, with the help of God.
Leader: Will you endeavor faithfully to fulfill your calling among Gods people: by preaching the Word of God; by presiding at the celebration of baptism and the Lords Supper; by doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with your God?
Kim: I will, with the help of God.
Leader: Will you endeavor to care for the people of God: nourishing, teaching and encouraging them; giving direction to the life of the church; counseling the troubled; and proclaiming resurrection and new life?
Kim: I will, with the help of God.
Leader: For me to live is Christ. Will you endeavor to conduct yourself so that your life is shaped by Jesus Christ, who took the form of a servant for our sake; and will you with the help of the Holy Spirit continually rekindle the gift of God that is in you, to make known to all people the gospel of the grace of God?
Kim: I will, with the help of God.
Leader: May God who has given you the will to do these things give you grace to perform them. Kim, God who called you is faithful and will not fail you.
Members of Kims church family and of this gathered community, you have heard the promises made. Will you now affirm Kim as an ordained minister of the Gospel?
Congregation: Kim, we accept you as one called to vocational ministry and affirm the decision that you be ordained. We pledge our love and offer our prayers that together we may glorify God and make Christ known in the world.
On Ordination
Among Baptists, ordination is a congregational act of empowering and commissioning a person for vocational ministry. It is a recognition of a persons sense of call and the congregations affirmation of a persons call and preparedness for ministry.
After Kim Priddy expressed a desire to be ordained by First Baptist, and following a period of discernment with our Pastor and Diaconate, an Ordination Council was called by the congregation, composed of staff ministers, lay ministers, denominational partners and invited guests. After meeting with Kim to discuss her theology, vocational identity and call to ministry, the Council unanimously recommended that she be ordained to the Gospel Ministry. The congregation enthusiastically affirmed this recommendation at the Church Conference on October 12.
