Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes: BFFSteve Rogers is the skinniest soldier while Bucky Barnes used to be a mascot. They are really good together, isn’t it? The two met at U.S. Army Camp Lehigh in Virginia and befriended. They are fellow soldiers and Bucky became the sidekick to Captain America. In 1945, during the war, Bucky failed to defuse a bomb onboard a plane.

Assumed Dead, But NotBucky is assumed dead, but he was actually tossed into the freezing waters of the North Atlantic and preserved in suspended animation. General Vasily Karpov and the crew of a Russian patrol submarine find Bucky's cold-preserved body sans one arm. Bucky is revived in Moscow, but suffers brain damage with amnesia as a result of the explosion.

The New Bucky Barnes

Scientists attach a bionic arm on his body, upgrading it as technology improves. Interestingly, though he’s suffering brain damage, his tactical knowledge has been enhanced and he can speak several languages, including Russian. The Russians were feeling disappointed that this American soldier doesn’t have the Super Soldier Formula, which was given to Captain America, they decided to put him back into stasis until they could find a use for an American soldier.

The Winter Soldier The Russian’s Special Section Department X decided to continue work on Bucky’s body, having stolen the schematics for an advanced cybernetic arm. Attaching it, it signaled the beginning of the Russian’s Winter Soldier project, which would transform Bucky into a weapon to use against their enemies. He was brainwashed and made loyal to Russia. He was given the code name “Winter Soldier” and sent on covert wetworks missions, like missions involving assassination, becoming increasingly ruthless and efficient as he kills in the name of the state.

The Winter Soldier and The Black WidowThe Winter Soldier had a brief relationship with The Black Widow. It can’t be verified if this is a romantic relationship. According to Marvel.com, When Natasha Romanova became part of Black Widow Program, a team of elite female sleeper agents, the Winter Soldier are one of the instructors. In the Comic-Con 2013, it was revealed by the cast the Captain America and Black Widow will develop something intimate friendship which involves some smooching at some point.

The Winter Soldier and The WolverineIt has recently revealed that the Winter Soldier helped Wolverine's escape from the Weapon X laboratory and later murdered Itsu (Wolverine's wife), seemingly killing their unborn son Daken who survived the attack after being cut from his mother's womb.

Steve Rogers and Buck Barnes ReunionThe Winter Soldier killed the notorious Red Skull and Nomad. He launched an attack and charged the Comic Cube. His existence was discovered by Steve Rogers through uncovered Intel, causing him to yearn for a reunion with his old friend from another life.

Captain America tracks down and confronts the Winter Soldier. Upon gaining control of the Cube, he tells the Soldier, "Remember who you are". Regaining his memories, Bucky becomes overwhelmed by guilt over his past actions,

The Winter Soldier as The New Captain AmericaWhen the Superhuman Registration Act was passed, S.H.I.E.L.D's Nick Fury recruited Bucky for covert operations, so as to protect Captain America from government forces. In the aftermath of the seeming death of Steve Rogers, Barnes became the new Captain America. Rogers survived, but upon his return, he gave Barnes his blessings to continue as Captain America on the Avengers while he accepted a federal role as an administrator managing super-heroes. In comics, they can always bring the dead to life. In Captain America: Reborn, it reveals the "truth" regarding the death of original Captain America Steve Rogers and revives him in the contemporary Marvel Universe. Buck, well, he returns as The Winter Soldier.

Powers and abilities

As Buck Barnes, he is a master of hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, as well as being skilled in the use of military weapons such as firearms and grenades.
