Switzerland• Switzerland is a landlocked alpine country of roughly

7.5 million people in Western Europe with an area of 41,285 km². Switzerland is a federal republic consisting of 26 states.

• Berne is the seat of the federation and de facto capital, while the country's economic centre are its two global cities, Geneva and especially Zürich. Switzerland has high degrees of economic freedom, immigrants, and globally-oriented business. It is one of the richest countries in the world.

Languages of Switzerland

• The people of Switzerland speak many languages. They are influenced by the languages of France, Germany, Italy and Austria.

• A majority of the people, around 64% speak German . Around 19% of the Swiss people speak French. Another 8 % of the Swiss population speaks Italian while 1 % speaks Raeto-Romanic or Romansch. You can enjoy hearing these melodious languages being spoken on your tours of Switzerland.

Culture • Swiss Literature reflects this mixture of

influences and has been influenced by Latin-Swiss Literature in medieval times, and German-Swiss Literature and French-Swiss Literature in recent times. • There are dozens of types of bread in Switzerland. However Zopf is a very special bread, typically served on Sunday for breakfast.

Fondue

• This is probably the most famous swiss menu. Fondue is made out of molten cheese. We eat it by dipping small pieces of bread in the molten cheese. The secret lies in the right mixture of different flavors of cheese. Typically, fondue is served on cold winter days, but many restaurants serve it all your round.

Pastetli (Meat pie)• Pastetli usually come in a r

ound shape. The picture on the left shows a very special shape, perfectly suited for a romantic dinner for two. There are different styles of fillings, it may include mushrooms and meat on a creamy sauce. They are usually served with rice and peas.

Rippli (Rips)

• Rippli means, rips taken from pork. In the region of Bern, it is served with bacon, beans and potatoes.

Sauerkraut

• Sauerkraut is a very traditional menu. There are dozens of different recipes for Sauerkraut, some include potatoes or meat.

Famous place• St. Moritz is an exclusive resort town in the Engadine valley in Switz

erland. It is a municipality in the district of Maloja in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. St. Moritz is considered the oldest and one of the most famous winter resorts in the world. Due to its favorable location residents enjoy over 300 days of sunshine a year. Every winter this alpine village hosts the "White Turf" horse race on the frozen Lake St. Moritz attended by the international Upper class. The official languages are Romansh and German.

• Popular pastimes include skiing and hiking, and nearby there is also the world famous Cresta Run toboggan course.

• Since the registration of a new trademark by the tourist office in 1987, St. Moritz is also known as Top of the World.
