• The official home of the President of the United States for over 200 years.

• Located in Washington, D.C.

Finished in 1800

• George Washington picked the location in 1791, but John Adams was the first president to live there when it was finished in 1800.

The War of 1812

• The British soldiers set the White House on fire in the War of 1812.

Interesting Facts

• There are 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms in the White House.

• There are 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases and 3 elevators.

• For fun there is a bowling alley, a movie theater, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a putting green and a basketball court.

The White House belongs to the People

• The White House is the President’s home, the President’s office and a free museum.

• It belongs to the citizens of the United States.

• The White House is a National Park!

• The White House is also the home of Bo, the dog.

Security

• You have to apply to take a tour of the White House about 3 months before you plan to visit.

• They run a background check on you before you are allowed to go to the White House.

• You can’t take any pictures or even have a camera. (Not even a cell phone!!!)
