Mitt Romney has apparently not become accustomed to the idea that when you are in the public eye each and every word you speak is heard and recorded. It seems Mr. Romney is willing to say whatever he thinks or has been told is appropriate for the audience he is standing before. Thus, if the audience tends to be very conservative Mr. Romney will most certainly voice a stance against abortion, against gay rights, against women’s rights, against gun controls, against higher minimum wages, against stem cell research, against campaign contribution limits. He says he was against the bailouts, against assisting the failing automobile manufacturers, yet when he is with a more moderate group of voters his positions are quickly reversed. Mitt Romney seems to have little or no shame when it comes to changing positions in an instance; on the other hand it might be just a poor memory or worse yet a propensity for telling lies. It seems Mr. Romney is willing to say anything that, at least for the moment, seems likely to win votes. His willingness to say what he believes the ideologues wish to hear has become a trademark for him and it is very likely to cost him many votes within his own party where there seems to be a growing dissatisfaction with his unwillingness to simply be frank and let the cards fall where they might. In the past staunch, aggressive Republicans have been quick to go on the attack for anything that resembled flip-flopping on the part of a Democratic candidate. Recent victims of such ruthlessness have been former Vice President Al Gore and Senator John Kerry. Mitt Romney’s attempts at outright deception have been very blatant and he seems to ignore the fact that there are many voters who are hearing him speak out of two sides of his mouth. His deceptions have been noticed around the world. The Guardian of the United Kingdom said, “Poor Mitt Romney suffers from both related ailments: flip-flopping on issues and a perception that he will do or say anything to get elected president. He's wooden, sometimes appears disingenuous, looks long on ambition but short on passion. As Republican polling guru Frank Luntz puts it , "Romney has all the qualities Republicans would like in a president , but none of the attributes they are looking for in a candidate." Weekly REPORTER Commentary

Mitt Romney seems to say whatever he must at any givenmoment to satisfy his listeners His statements on camera are at bestawkward as he attempts to not offend his ultra-conservative basewhere most of his support lies

His stance on immigration reform is pathetic He is eitherunwilling or afraid to stand up for Hispanics who came to this countryas children having no choice in the decision to enter the United States

and who know no other home other than the United StatesThese are generally fine young men and women who have been

educated in the United States and who are as American as anyonewho was born here They want a means by which they can begranted citizenship they want to complete their educations they wantto take their places in the work force They wish to marrry raisefamilies and purchase homes for them

Mitt Romney with all his riches is out of touch with the Hispaniccommunity No one has said he spent any time in a Hispaniccommunity or any minority community Perhaps his idea of a minorityis people who earn only $1 million or $2 million dollars a year

Mr Romney has an advisor named Kris Kobach who is theSecretary of State in Kansas Mr Kobach was the architect of thetough immigration laws that were enacted in Arizona and inAlabama They are the toughest laws in the US with regard toimmigrants Although Kobach says he has been advising MittRomney for years Mr Romney denies that he has ever met himKobach is currently on the Romney staff as an advisor

According to CNN reporter Tom Cohen when Romney wasasked about Kris Kobach he said He may well be part of apolicy team Romney said I have not met with himyet And dont know whether he is or he is not

But according to reporter Cohen Romney made the followingdeclarations

In January Romney expressed gratitude when the conservativeKobach endorsed him for the Republican nomination

ldquoIm so proud to earn Kriss support he said in astatement at the time the flow of illegal Kris has beena true leader on securing our borders and stoppingimmigration into this country We need moreconservative leaders like Kris willing to stand up for therule of law

It is the same old Mitt Romney a man willing to say anything towiggle out of an uncomfortable situation He just does not want to bestraight forward or to give honest forthwith answers to questions putto him

You can read the entire article by Tom Cohen athttpwwwcnncom20120919politicsromney-latino-

voteindexhtmlWith the election drawing closer each day becomes more

important to the candidates and it is quite likely you will hear moreand more attempts at deception as Romney seeks to win the favor ofpeople he does not like or support He currently lacks supportamong American women voters Hispanics African Americans andthe Gay community

One can imagine the circles in which the extremely rich MrRomney circulates It is quite unlikely he visits any minoritycommunity and the fact that he praised Kris Kobach the architect ofso much misery and heartbreak within the Mexican communities inArizona and Alabama seems to say it all on the issue of Hispanics

Praising the separation of mothers and fathers from their childrenof husbands and wives grandparents and grandchildren hardlysounds like something worthy of anyonersquos praise How can anydecent person praise the breakup of sound decent families

Given the facts as they come from Mitt Romneyrsquos own mouth itis possible that all he might provide as the president would be moreand more misery for thousands or perhaps millions of people whowish nothing more than to work earn enough to provide food andshelter for their families and themselves and to live in peace

If you happen to be Hispanic perhaps you should consider MrRomneyrsquos real feelings toward you when you vote in November

(ARA) - With short-term interest rates at historic lows manyinvestors are turning to ldquohigh-yieldrdquo bond funds to generate moreincome from their investment portfolios They could make sense foryou too

High-yield bonds are bonds issued by companies that do notcarry investment-grade credit ratings These companies often havehigher-than-average levels of debt suggesting that they are at greaterrisk of defaulting on their obligations to bondholders To rewardinvestors for taking that risk companies pay higher rates of intereston their bonds In late August for example when intermediate-termcorporate bonds from investment-grade companies were yieldingabout 24 percent high-yield bonds were offering about 7 percent

Despite this riskier profile high-yield bonds historically have hada relatively low default rate - about 44 percent annually on averageover the past two and a half decades For the first six months of thisyear with corporate profits strong the default rate was only 25percent

A mature marketplaceThe market for high-yield bonds is larger and more diversified

today than it was a few decades ago when these securities wereoften referred to as ldquojunk bondsrdquo It is now a $1 trillion-plusmarketplace featuring bonds from companies in a wide range ofindustries and broadly diversified in terms of credit quality Ratingagency Standard amp Poors has a dozen different rating levels forhigh-yield issuers ranging from ldquoBB+rdquo for those one notch belowinvestment grade to ldquoDrdquo for those that have already defaulted onsome of their financial commitments

This diversity in todays high-yield marketplace makes it easierfor investors to manage default risk since they can build portfolios ofbonds in various industries and maturities across the credit spectrum

Although high-yield bonds can fall in value when the economyweakens and investors start to worry about getting paid those at thetop of the ratings scale tend to fall the least And they usually fluctuateless dramatically than stocks In fact research by Thrivent Financialanalysts has shown that over the past 25 years the total return onhigh-yield bonds has been about equal to that of the Standard ampPoors 500 Stock Index but with only about two-thirds of thevolatility

ldquoThere are risks to investing in the high-yield market just as thereare risks in any marketrdquo says Mark Simenstad vice president andhead of fixed-income funds for Thrivent Financial for Lutherans adiversified financial services organization ldquoBut its not a monolithicmarket Many of the higher-quality bond issuers are establishedwell-known companies with good business prospects which wasntalways the case 20 or 30 years agordquo

Investing prudently in high-yield bondsBeyond focusing on credit ratings one of the simplest ways to

minimize the risk of investing in high-yield bonds is throughdiversification Instead of buying one bond investors are encouragedto buy several issued by different companies in different industriesThat way one default cant take down the entire portfolio They alsocan incorporate other high-yielding assets into their holdingsincluding preferred stocks convertible bonds and even mortgage-backed securities

Unfortunately assembling a diversified high-yield bond portfoliocan be a tall order for many investors who often dont have the timeor resources to assess the financial health and business prospects ofmany different issuers Accordingly most choose to invest via mutualfunds specializing in that sector of the market delegating securityselection and trading decisions to a professional money manager

Paul Ocenasek manager of the Thrivent High Yield Fund sayshigh-yield bond funds can be appropriate for several types ofinvestors ldquoThey can certainly make sense for anyone looking togenerate income from their investment portfoliordquo he says ldquosince theyields they offer are often higher than whats available frominvestment-grade corporate bonds and typically higher than theyields on conservative cash investmentsrdquo

To be sure high-yield bonds are not risk-free They can godown in value when interest rates rise or when business conditionsdeteriorate and market sentiment sours And as noted they can fallinto default But Simenstad stresses while investors should notignore the risks associated with high-yield bonds neither should theyexaggerate them A prudently managed high-yield bond fund hemaintains can play a meaningful role in almost any broadly diversifiedinvestment portfolio

Weekly REPORTER Commentary

So what does this mean forindividuals It means people need todo what they can to age productivelyIt means they need to take charge oftheir health - including their hearinghealth - so they can maximize theirchances for success on the job Alongwith maintaining a healthy lifestyle itsimportant that boomers routinely gettheir hearing checked - and that they

Gone are the days of ignoring hearing difficultiesThere are no more excuses And given the technologicaladvances of modern hearing aids and the compelling datathat illustrate the downside of leaving hearing lossunaddressed theres only one reasonable course ofaction Maturing workers should be getting their hearingchecked And if there is hearing loss they should discuss

with their hearing healthcare provider whether or nothearing aids could help

Consider this More than 34 million Americans sufferfrom hearing loss - about 11 percent of the USpopulation - and 60 percent of them are below retirementage according to the Better Hearing Institute(wwwbetterhearingorg) Research shows that the use ofhearing aids reduces the risk of income loss by 90 to 100percent for those with milder hearing loss and from 65 to77 percent for those with severe to moderate hearing lossThose with moderate-to-severe hearing loss who usehearing aids are twice as likely to be employed as theirpeers who do not use hearing aids And three out of four

hearing aid users report improvements in their quality oflife due to wearing hearing aids The vast majority ofpeople with hearing loss in fact could benefit fromhearing aids

More good news Todays employers recognize thechanging demographics of the modern aging workforceand increasingly are making efforts to hold onto their olderworkers Employers value the experience that matureemployees bring to the job - along with the strong workethic and other positive attributes that older workers tendto possess

More and more companies in fact engage inworkplace wellness programs to help keep theiremployees in good health And hearing health - includinghearing checks - is increasingly included in theseprograms

Never before has good hearing been so important -or so attainable says Dr Sergei Kochkin ExecutiveDirector of the Better Hearing Institute When peoplewith even mild hearing loss use hearing aids they improvetheir job performance increase their earning potentialenhance their communication skills improve theirprofessional and interpersonal relationships and stave offdepression

I urge anyone planning to stay in the workforcelonger to take that first most critical step to optimizingyour hearing health and enhancing your chances for careersuccess by taking a confidential online hearing check atwwwhearingcheckorg It will help you determine if youmay need a more thorough hearing test by a hearing healthprofessional Kochkin continues Your hearing healthand continued job success are within your control

Weekly REPORTER Commentary

(ARA) - Lets face it The GreatRecession put a kink in manyAmericans retirement plans Combinethat financial blow with the generaluncertainty regarding Medicare andthe future cost of private healthinsurance

As a result more boomers arestaying in the workforce longer Infact between 2006 and 2016 thenumber of older people in theworkforce is expected to soar

according to the US Bureau ofLabor Statistics (BLS) Workersbetween the ages of 55 and 64 areexpected to increase by 365 percentthe number of workers between 65and 74 is expected to climb by 834percent and even the number ofworkers who are 75 and older isexpected to grow by 843 percentBy 2016 the BLS says workers age65 and over are expected to make up61 percent of the total labor force - a

steep jump from their 36 percentshare in 2006
