Sunday Afternoon Concert: Do I ever have egg on my face!!!!! John Lees said it in jest, but when I got home Sunday, I went to my folder of contracts and lo and behold, he was right!! I had the wrong date for the concert. I owe you all a big apology and Hai Jin, too! I'm beginning to think it's time for someone else to do this job. Oh well, please come back this Sunday and be prepared to enjoy a lovely piano concert by Hai Jin. No doubt she will be here at the appropriate time and all will be well. HAPPENING THIS WEEK…
MONDAY, January 27th
Fiscal Review Committee 2 PM Game Room. A 40 min presentation on the large TV from AV Powell for the National Continuing Care Residents Association (NaCCRA), “What Do Resident Stakeholders Need to Know About Actuarial Reports.” We will provide key handouts.
MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE 7:00PM AUD: Operation Finale was one of the better ones to grace the silver screen in recent years. While nothing like the legendary historical dramas that came before it, this film struck a balance I appreciated between historical presentation and dramatizing moments. There are Subtitles.

We supporters will attend the press conference and, if able, make the rounds of the House and Senate office buildings to show our support and lobby our delegation. Bus departs Security at 9:15, and leaves Annapolis at 2:00 to return home. TRIPS: Wanted! A resident volunteer to chair the trips committee! Tiffan'e will support the committee as the staff liaison, but it really would be nice to have a resident lead this committee. Regarding trips, as you may know, we have cut the trips down from four a month to two trips per month. In the very near future, a trip survey will be circulated to get your input on your interest in various types of trips. If you have no interest in going on any trips, we need to know that too! For at least 25 years, the required minimum number of residents to send a trip was 10. More and more, we pull the trip sheet with only 10, confirm it, and on the day of the trip, someone (or two!) will need to drop off, and it's too late to cancel. Therefore, we are increasing the minimum required to 15. Please note: this will not effect the subscription series' that are already in process
SAGE Mail-in Registration forms Sage class registration began on January 10th. You can register for a class up until one day before that class begins unless the class is full. If you register by mail you will not get any confirmation. You will not know if you are enrolled until you go to class and ask the teacher to check the class roster. If you register online through OWL LINK you can pay with a credit card and get a receipt with confirmation. Instructions for online registration are on page 2 of the SAGE Spring Catalogue.

FROM FITNESS- We are addressing the broken treadmill in the fitness room as we speak. Repairs may be a bit extensive, therefore we are looking into purchasing a new one for a replacement ASAP. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we are proactively seeking an immediate resolution.
SMILE :)
Let’s talk money - Many of you know Amazon, the online shopping giant. Just look at the number of Amazon packages that arrive on Vern’s desk each day. I want to talk about Amazon Smile which was created by Amazon as a way for those who shop Amazon to give to their favorite charity. Every time someone enrolls in Amazon Smile and shops one half of a percent of the cost of the item goes to the charity of their choice. In other words, for every $10 spent by you, the charity would receive a nickel.
So I am encouraging you to sign up and name the Collington Resi-dents Association as your charity. We have already been approved
How do you sign up for Amazon Smile?
1. Go to https://smile.amazon.com/ and sign into your regular Amazon account.
2. Once you log in a page will pop up asking you to “Select a Chari-table Organization to Start Shopping”.
3. Under “pick your own charitable organization” type Collington Residents Association Inc.
How do you change your charity if you have selected anoth-er?
1. Go to Smile.amazon.com. 2. Sign into your account just as you would sign into amazon.com. 3. Find “My Account” in the top right corner of the page and click on it. 4. Scroll to the Settings portion of the screen. Under account set-tings, select “Change Your Charity.” 5. Type Collington Residents Association Inc.
New Initiative: The Residents Association is planning a campus-wide survey of the many ways and hours residents volunteer. Everywhere I go on our campus residents talk about how much their volunteer experiences mean to them; to use their myriad skills, ex-pertise, and interests in perhaps new and different ways. Many of us volunteer week in and week out year after year.
Why bother collecting this data?
Most of us, I believe, will be astounded with the impact we make both in our community and the larger community. And this is cause to be grateful! Research suggests that gratitude may be associated with many benefits for individuals, including better physical and psychological health, increased happiness and life satisfaction, de-creased materialism, and more.
Furthermore, many studies point to the positive consequences of generosity for the giver. Giving social support, time, or effort is as-sociated with better overall health in older adults, and volunteering is associated with delayed mortality.
This is why volunteerism at Collington is worth documenting, appre-ciating, encouraging, and celebrating!
Currently, Gretta Estey and Dave Montgomery have agreed to help conduct this project and are running pilot interviews for data collec-tion. Thanks to all who have volunteered for this pilot. Everyone else will have an opportunity to participate in the near future.
Be well, be happy,
Lois Brown, RA President
