In 1504, Leonardo da Vinci (1452‐1519) and Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475‐
1564), the two greatest artistic geniuses of the Italian Renaissance, were both
working on enormous paintings of battle scenes for the Salone dei Cinquecento in

Michelangelo would ever see their share of the ambitious project to its
completion, the brilliant full‐scale drawings they created of rearing horses and
muscular soldiers were known in the 16th century as the “school of the world”.
Notwithstanding the generational difference, the pairing of Leonardo da Vinci and
Michelangelo might have seemed like the ideal opportunity for intellectual
collaboration: both were accomplished artists as well as so‐called Universal Men,
with shared interests across many disciplines, including painting, sculpture,
architecture and anatomy. On the contrary, it only exacerbated what was
described by their contemporaries as a mutual, fervent disdain, a relationship that
was best exemplified by anecdotes of the two artists hurling insults at each other
in the streets of Florence.
Leonardo da Vinci vs Michelangelo ‐This lecture will explore how this great rivalry
between Leonardo and Michelangelo – who were dissimilar in temperament and
beliefs, as well as the manner in which they worked – contributed to the creation
of some of the most famous and influential artworks the world has ever seen.
Friday, August 28th, 1:30 – Living with The Author During the Writing of the
Novel – Book 1: The Making of the Masjid Morning By Barbara Morris
Living with The Author Series were written by Richard Morris and his wife,
Barbara Morris, will present the series to the community. She will discuss the
books in reverse order of the sequence of their writing because the final novel,
Masjid Morning, is closer in setting to current times.

No one expects to be murdered in a church. And yet this is
precisely what happens to two seemingly blameless young
women in City of Wind, the sixth book of the City of
Mystery series.
It is spring, 1891. Scotland Yard's first forensics unit is reeling from a series of
painful losses, and Detective Trevor Welles has traveled to America to teach the
San Francisco police the fledgling science of fingerprinting. When a badly
decomposed body is found in a church belfry, Trevor, along with Rayley Abrams
and Davy Mabrey, finds himself reluctantly drawn into the case. For once it's
easier to identify a suspect than the victim and Theo Durant, Sunday School
superintendent and unrepentant ladies' man, is at the top of everyone's list. The
police aren't so sure. As Davy puts it "any man who looks that guilty almost has to
be innocent."
While the body count rises and the evidence grows, Trevor and his team must
race to find the truth before a vigilante crowd takes justice into their own hands.
The men may have science and proximity on their side, but it will take the insight
of three women back in England ‐ Gerry, Emma, and Leanna ‐ to uncover the dark
family secrets that first drove the killer to violence. After a final life and death
struggle on Alcatraz, even a group of forensics experts must admit that the "why"
of murder is sometimes more revealing than the "how."

PAINTING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED There are projects around the Woodshop and Hilltop Garden that are in need of Collington painters. All supplies will be provided, socialization at a distance will be encouraged and all volunteers will earn a commemorative paintbrush. John Barker has dried and straightened ten 4” x 4” wood posts. Bizarre Bazaar? Hello Folks: It is hoped that the annual Holiday Bazaar will still take place this year despite Covid‐19. Knowing that it might be canceled or postponed, plans are to proceed, even with the probability of the bazaar being smaller and having to be spread out into areas such as the Clocktower and corridors if we have the Bazaar at all. Of course, the final word belongs to the Administration, but they have told us to go ahead and plan for it. Who knows what November will bring? As of now, the 2020 Holiday Bazaar is scheduled to take place on
Friday 13 (eek!) November 2020 from 10:00 until 2:00 in the Auditorium?, Clocktower, Corridors, and?. During the lockdown, some of you have already been busy making things or thinking about what you can do this year. Please let me know if you, or others you know, would like to make items for the Bazaar (crafts, food, etc.) and/or volunteer. Contact me, Maja Keech, at [email protected], cottage #2004, or tel. x7253. Also, let me know if you will need a table(s). (Tables for food and miscellaneous will be provided.)
As always, most proceeds go to the Colington Residents’ Association which needs the money for the various committees, activities, programs, etc. that it supports. Participants may retain the cost of materials.

Hello Everyone,
As COVID-19 and the resulting restrictions persist, so does the difficulty in
maintaining an active lifestyle and functional independence.
It doesn’t take long for a decline in either strength, balance, and/or function with the
decreased activity levels COVID-19 has caused.
No matter what your activity level may be, we can provide therapeutic exercises to
increase or maintain your current functional activity level; here’s how:
• One on one setting adhering to distancing policies while maintaining high
levels of infection control
• All therapy is provided at no cost to you
• Ease of set up: just give us a call and we can schedule your first visit, contact
your physician, and handle all insurance communication.
Our department is here to prevent functional declines and promote aging in place by
keeping Collington residents as safe and independent as possible.
So, if you are concerned with a potential decline in your functional activity level,
fitness level or have been putting off therapy you may need and now have time
available, please contact us at (301) 541-5017 to discuss a potential program for
you.
Sincerely,
Rich Rigali,
Collington Rehab Director

Getting an Absentee Ballot for the November Election
To get an absentee ballot for the November election, you must fill out an application form. The Board of Elections (BOE) will be mailing application forms to all voters, but if you want to get a head start and beat the rush, why not apply for your absentee ballot now. You can apply online or mail in a paper application form.
Applying for an absentee ballot online - To apply for an absentee ballot online, go to https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration/ Start by filling in several screens as if you were registering to vote for the very first time. The final screen asks if you want an absentee ballot.
Applying for an absentee ballot by mailing in a paper application form - If you would like a paper application form, call Lorrie at x7371 and she will put one in your mail slot. Mail your completed application form to:
Prince George's County Board of Elections
1100 Mercantile Ln., Ste. 115A Largo, MD 20774
How do you want to receive your ballot? The application form asks how you want to receive your absentee ballot: by U.S. Mail or Internet Delivery. Getting the absentee ballot delivered to you by mail is the better choice. If you choose internet delivery, you may not submit the completed ballot online, but must print the ballot and mail it in (or drop it off). More importantly, a ballot delivered by internet that you print cannot be read by the scanners. A BOE employee will have to copy your ballot onto an official ballot, which adds to the burden on the BOE in counting votes and creates the possibility of transcription errors and potential fraud. Better to trust the USPS to deliver a scannable ballot to you.
Checking to see if your application was received (and later on, if it has been mailed to you) To confirm that your application has been received, go to https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/VoterSearch Key in your Name, Date of Birth, and Zip; the resulting screen shows your voter registration info. Below your info, the last item on the list is "Status of My Mailed-in or Provisional Ballots". Click on that, and, if your application has been received, it will say so. If you are not a computer person and would like that reassurance, call Lorrie x7371 and she will check for you. Later, when ballots are mailed, that section will be updated to show that your ballot has been mailed.
When will you receive your absentee ballot? According to the state Election Calendar, BOEs can't begin to print the ballots until September 3rd. We are unlikely to have them delivered to us before the end of September or early October.
How can you return a voted ballot to the BOE? Voted absentee ballots can be returned to the BOE by mail or placed in secure BOE drop-boxes. When the time comes, arrangements will be in place to help Collingtonians who do not drive.

GREAT NEWS THRICE OVER
I am pleased to announce that Dorothy Yuan has very gra-ciously accepted the nomination of Dining Services Chair.
I particularly want to thank Ann Davie, Ellie Hagan, and Norma Taylor, the nomination committee, for conducting a very thor-ough search. I am confident that Dorothy will be an excellent chair. Thank you Dorothy!
Stay tuned for the time and date of the next Dining Committee meeting (via Zoom) where the vote to confirm Dorothy will take place. There will also be an agenda and attendance by Culinary staff.
Introducing the Inaugural Edition of the Collington Arts Magazine “KALEIDOSCOPE”
On Friday, August 28th plan to attend the Celebration via TV 972
Free copies will be available in the Auditorium - Please send one resident per District or Cluster to collect for each unit.
Another huge thank you goes out to Lorrie and Jim Rogers and Helen Weinland who are not only helping Colllingtonians get absentee ballot applications but are working on a plan for a couple of volunteer "couriers" to deliver Collington resident bal-lots to the official Board Of Election drop-off box.
If you have not made arrangements to receive your Maryland absentee election ballot please contact Lorrie Rogers x7371 for assistance. More than 100 Collingto-nians have already applied for their absentee ballots.
Natalee Zimmerman is helping Creighton residents apply for absentee ballots and vote. Thank you Natalee!
