Children’s Parliament

School representatives attending a children’s parliament meeting hosted at Lee Brigg Infant and Nursery School

The Trust holds regular parliamentary meetings so as to allow the children to have a say in how we work together. The Children's Parliament meets every half-term to discuss current issues across the trust, and every school will have representatives attending to voice the thoughts of their pupils. The Prime Minister, Deputy and chair help to lead the meetings and put ideas forward to the group.

Year 6 head to Condover Hall for their final trip

On the 5th of June, the year six’s and teachers of Walton

Primary Academy visited the residential Condover Hall .

They Stayed there until the 7th of June and had a

wonderful time.

It took them two and a half hours on coach to travel to

Shropshire, where Condover Hall is located. When they

arrived, they stepped out of the coach to find huge, well-

kept grounds and a beautiful, old building. They were then

greeted by the staff (known as JCA) who showed us the

dorms.

Over the three days, the children did a whole range of activities, from fencing and Gladiator war, to caving and abseiling. Then, after the tiring but fun activities, the children got free time to play in the huge grounds. We asked Arman Barough( one of the Y6s) about the trip: Fist, we asked him if the dorms were clean and he said that they were. “ I think the dorms were clean and hygienic.” He also said that the food was really nice, “ Yes, the food was really nice, and filled me up.” We then asked Arman if he liked the activities, and he said, “ Yes, the activities where interesting, and overall it was an awesome residential! It has made me realise how much I’ll miss Walton and the fun times we have” The Y6 residential is something the children look forward to, and their trip to Condover Hall was very enjoyable. It will be a good memory for them to remember but more importantly Condover Hall is a good way to overcome your fears and get stuck in, as most children found out.

Disasterous Delay In the horrific weather on Tuesday 6th June, 45 unfortunate year 4 pupils from Walton Primary Academy were left standing in the rain when their coach didn’t arrive. They were destined to visit Leeds City Varieties to see their favourite performance Barmy Brits. Just after an early lunch, excited children rushed out of the hall to collect their belongings. As they were preparing for the trip one girl called Jennifer exclaimed, “I am so excited, I predict this will be the best performance ever!” Another child squealed ‘’I am looking forward to the Rotten Romans most.’’ But then disappointment struck! The coaches were due to arrive at 12.30 to take the children to the theatre , but only two out of the three coaches arrived . The children waited patiently outside in the pouring rain until their teacher, Mrs Mulroy, decided that they should go inside. News quickly spread amongst the children that the coach wasn’t going to turn up. In order to keep the children occupied, staff took the children back into the dining hall and put on a clip of horrible histories. Mrs Hensahll explained that this might be instead of the play. On hearing this, some children were very upset. It is rumored that Lewis Knight had paid for the trip out of his own pocket money. Meanwhile, office staff and teachers were frantically ringing different coach companies to find another coach. Finally, the last coach they called came, but it was extremely late! After a chaotic hour, the pupils were eventually on their way to the much awaited performance. Luckily, the theatre company were kind enough to delay the show for 20 minutes. Fortunately, the children only missed the very beginning of the performance. Although it had been a disastrous start, all of the children managed to watch the performance and thoroughly enjoyed it. Class 6 wrote a thank you letter to the company and are looking forward to their next theatre visit.

Walton Welcome Warburtons packlunches

On the 21st of June on Wednesday, two workers from Warbutons, Mrs Hall and Mrs Paragreen payed a visit to Walton Primary Academy to work with year 3 and 4. Warburtons became a shop when one day the wife of the family made bread and sold it, back in those days you couldnt buy bread so you had to make it. After learning the history of Warbutons, the whole class made healthy sandwiches, or wraps, we had a choice of bread, fillings, meat and much more. For example you could make a ham and cheese salad sandwich. We learnt alot about sugar too I have to admit, I was suprised when Mrs Hall told us ”Most breads have sugar in them ” The whole class gasped in horror! At least we know the do’s and dont’s of food. Lottie explained that ”I loved warburtons coming into school. It was really fun and i loved making the sanwhiches. The history of Warburton is interesting and we all learnt a lot about keeping healthy too”.

Extra Excitement In addition to our year 6 children completeing their SATS, Year 2 children also worked tremendously hard to tackle the special paper. To celebrate their hard work, Mr Lumbs came and we all got to eat a delicious ice cream in the sunshine.

Our Foundation Stage children worked really hard to create the school sheild. This contributed towards the MAT art exhibition and was part of the representation of our school. The four sections show the house colours: Doctus, Fortus, Amacus and Verus.

Our Marvelous Mathmeticians are sharing amounds into quarters. Year two children are partitoning numbers and year 1 children are sharing objects. The children have loved being outside in the lovely summer weather.
