PWDCC Board of Directors and Officerseffective April 30, 2011

ThePresident’sLetterThe PWDCC is looking for new Directors, especially one

that might be interested in being the club Secretary. In

order to comply with the CKC mandate we are seeking

board members from eastern and western provinces. As

always, we welcome any members who would be inter-

ested in becoming more involved with the governance

of our club. Please contact the Nominating Committee,

Herb Szauerzopf, Lorraine Wilson and Mari Szauerzopf.

I look forward to seeing you at the final event of the

year, our Regional Specialty Show at Elora Gorge KC

show, December 27-29 in Kitchener Ontario.

Herb

Herb Szauerzopf, PresidentPortuguese Water Dog Club of CanadaSeptember 2012

Hi Everyone,

Thanks to our members and volunteers we’ve had a

fantastic summer and have been busier than ever with

Water Camps, three Water Trials (two in Ontario and one

in Alberta), and our successful National Specialty in

Milton. The Water events and Specialty were very well

attended and successful. These events can only happen

with the capable and generous volunteers, so necessary

when running complicated multi-day events and that’s

what the PWDCC is all about.

The PWDCC Board of Directors is changing. After many

years on the Board, Roslyn Eskind has resigned as our

Secretary/Treasurer. She will be hard to replace. Roslyn

has worked on so many things for the PWDCC over the

years and deserves a well-earned rest from contributing

much to our club. We thank her for her amazing work.

Also, Vice President Mindy Selby has reached the six

year maximum uninterupted term and will be resigning.

We will miss her common sense and expertise.

PWDCC National Specialty Water TrialLaurel Creek Conservation Area, Waterloo, ONJudge Mary-Kay SchroederAugust 9, 2012, 31 Entries

I really want to thank the committee for asking meto judge this specialty. It is always an honor tojudge at a specialty. And a big thanks to the watercommittee who made the day run smoothly despitethe weather. I never heard anyone complain aboutthe rain and there were smiles on the faces of theworkers and competitors.

The percentage of qualifiers was very high and forthose that did not qualify, most were very close. It was wonderful to see so many new people to thesport and lots of young dogs that we hope willcontinue to train and become part of the watercommunity.

I hope that some of my training tips and sugges-tions will help those competing at your next trialsin 2 weeks be more successful.

Thank you,Mary-Kay SchroederWater Judge

SweepstakesFriday August 10, 2012Judge Jane Freeman

You didn’t make my choices easy! What a lovelygroup of Puppies and Veterans.

Overall the Puppy exhibits were of excellent type, soundness, bone, depth of chest, pigment, coats. Ina few I would have liked more leg and better propor-tion of loin to length of body and better shoulderlayback. There were some very strong heads andmuzzles with well-defined stops. I was please to seeso many, even as puppies, covering ground as wellas they did. The temperaments were superb. I wasespecially impressed with the 6-9 Puppy Bitch. Formany their first time in the ring and they behavedlike experienced campaigners, well done!

My choice for Best in Sweeps, Ch ClaircreekImpression de Matisse, mirrors the standard beauti-fully; well balanced with a very strong head andmuzzle and a lush coat. Opposite was a beautiful, forward striding bitch with lovely bone and sub-stance, Keeva Bay Crimson Tide. These wereexhibits I would love to call my own.

The Veterans! They might be of a “certain age” butdon’t tell them. They all seemed so pleased to beback in the ring. Both the Best Veteran, Ch Aliana’sSonho Do Menino and Opposite, Ch Angle BlackShelby of Lolyka, were of wonderful type, wellbalanced with beautiful side gait and in excellentcondition

Many thanks to the PWDCC for allowing me thehonor of judging your Sweepstakes it was a pleas-ure. Our Breed is in good hands in Canada.

old PWD and I live with Mr. Schooner, my grannie

Tikka, my mom Ruby and Uncle Nash and for the

moment my brother Franklin, he’s brown and beside

me. When is he going anyway? Life is good, I run in

the country and I’m learning to be a good girl at

puppy class, and at the office (what’s an office any-

way?) with lots of clicks and treats. Now Roslyn is

busy reading some books from Sue Ailsby, so who

knows what I’m in store for? As long as the treats

keep coming…

From the Land training session in May –

to the in Water Camp in June to the Trial

Prep session in July – to the PWDCC

National Specialty trial and the Annual

two day Ontario water trials held in

August – it was a fun filled and reward-

ing season.

Suffice to say the water work program

is alive and well. 2012 saw the highest

level of participation in the water pro-

gram as a whole including a full entry

for the Ontario Water trials. We had a

mix of new entrants and experienced

handlers and it was a thrill to see all

the enthusiastic participation, especially

from those who are new to our sport.

Our trials continue to be held at Laurel

Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo, a

venue that pleases handlers, dogs and

judges alike.

mittees and volunteers without whom we

cannot hold these events and trials. This"Sami", Eauchien's Shamash, CD, TD

PWDCC Alberta Water Trial Results September 1-2, 2012

PWDCC Alberta Water TrialWizard Lake, AlbertaJudge Suzanne Malick, Beaverton OrSeptember 1 and 2, 2012, 17 Entries

For the second year in a row, Alberta hosted a

fantastic water trial. Why was it so great? Was

it Alberta’s famous sunny skies? Nope, it

rained. Was it Wizard Lake’s usual calm

waters? Nope, we had big waves and white-

caps. The success was due to the teamwork

of this small but mighty group of water

enthusiasts. Everyone volunteered. Everyone

smiled, and everyone enjoyed being at this

event celebrating what our PWD’s were bred

to do… work in the water.

Out of 17 dogs entered, 15 participated, and

we’re very proud to say that 10 titles/certifi-

cates were earned. Judge Suzanne Malick

from Beaverton, Oregon, was quick to point

out that was quite a high success rate. She

also commented on the group’s camaraderie,

and how everyone pitched in to make this

trial run smoothly. As she was giving the

“Spirit Awards” (an award given to a team

the judge feels exemplifies a special bond

between dog and handler), Suzanne men-

tioned that she could have given out many

such awards on this weekend. Suzanne

ultimately chose Perry Massner and Jill

Weatherby to receive this honour. Our Judge

also mentioned being very grateful that she

didn’t have to give out a Volunteer Award,

because she wouldn’t have been able to

choose. Suzanne did point out that Jill

Weatherby and Greg Illchuk rowed their

hearts out almost all weekend, because they

were our strongest rowers and we needed

them to handle the big waves!

Have you ever really thought about how many

people it takes to volunteer during a Courier

run for example? Gate steward, land steward,

table steward, 2 rowers, and because the

waves were so big add in 2 non-rowing boat

stewards. That’s 7 people and it doesn’t

count the folks who found the site, organized

the trial, took entries, drove the equipment

there, set up the site, brought morning

snacks, did ribbons and prizes, or drove and

fed the judge. With such a small entry, it

meant that everyone wore multiple hats in the

volunteer department. Thanks to you all!

We can’t name all the individuals who con-

tributed here but we need to say thanks to

the PWDCC Water Trial Committee who

Breeder ListHow do we address the situation if we learn that aparticipant on the list hasn’t sent in their healthtesting when they have a litter? It seems that nomatter how we try to explain the new policy peopleare not getting it. Henri: we should expand thebreeder contact function to include contactingbreeders to send in their health testing. Perhaps wetry one warning then removed for the balance of theyear and the executive then deal with it in a hear-ing? But we need some consistent policy. Initiallysee how the new regulations are working and thendevelop a policy. If board members learn of a litterlet the breeder contact know, and then Cindy con-tacts the person and reviews the situation. Then ifit happens a second time, the board will deal withit. Herb, volunteers to be the breeder contact liai-son. The breeder contact is not applying sanctions, but asking for compliance, and then if the breederis not forthcoming with health stats, then the boardshould act on the lack of compliance.

Breeders recently eblasted to remind them of thenew Policy. And now we’re going to warn individu-als, and then if there is another infraction then pos-sibly suspend. Aren’t we rather toothless? How manypeople have followed the Policy this year? Aboutthree have complied.

Henri recommends that the breeder contact contactanyone who she hears is not in compliance. Herbmoves that the Breeder Contact be empowered tocontact breeders who may not be in compliancewith the current Policy, and to remove anyone whois not in compliance until the health records aresent to the Breeder Contact. Further, the BreederContact will keep records and will report back to theboard on a regular basis. Henri seconds. Approved.

Although we are dealing with negative issues ofenforcing our policies, in the end we are moving toimproving our club and protecting the breed.

Old Business

Alberta Water TrialProperty owner has residential/agricultural insur-ance, he hasn’t approached his insurer to let themknow that he will hold an event outside his normalbusiness for which he might not have coverage.

The board meeting goes in Camera.

New information has been brought to the board thatis causing the board concern and for this reason weare overruling the Water Trial Committee’s decisionto approve the Alberta Water Trial. Herb will dealwith any questions.

Roslyn will sent to the board’s decision to Robin.

The board resumed its regular meeting:

Motion by Roslyn those in favour of approving theAlberta Water Trial application seconded by Herb, opposed Henri, Judy, Lori, Mindy. Motion failed.Roslyn will advise Robin of the board’sdecision.

Mindy moves to approve the amended minutes ofthe May 17, seconded by Lori, abstain HenriBerube, Approved.

Alberta Water TrialThe PWDCC WT committee will approve the site.Robin asked for a copy of our club insurance certifi-cate to discuss the insurance coverage of the prop-erty owner with him this weekend. Our insurer hasrecommended that the property owner increase hiscoverage to at least $2MM liability per occurrenceand to name us on his insurance for this event. Shenoted that an increase in our coverage from one mil-lion to $5MM (requested last year by the park wherethe Ontario water trials are held) costs $50.00 peryear. The other alternative is for the property ownerto get event specific coverage, but that would proba-bly cost more than just increasing his policy cover-age for the year. I spoke with another insurer andshe also concurred that the $1MM coverage for anevent like this is too little. If the insurance issue isresolved then the board can approve the trial as thebudget issues are now resolved.

National SpecialtyBudget includes high, low and reality columns. Eachscenario shows a loss, going forward we will makeevery effort to control expenses. This year we havethe added expense of judges’ travel, all who are outof town. It would be nice to have all board memberscontribute to the Trophy donations. Although it isearly in the process, it would be nice to see thissupport to encourage other support. Ribbon expens-es unknown given the entries. Mindy is working onseveral ideas for trophies. Mindy suggests that allplacements, 1-4 get a trophy that is useful, oneidea is silver picture frames with club identity. Whatabout a coupon with the photographer? Too expen-sive. Dog show pictures are 8x10, idea was 8x10($14) for first, 5x7 for other placements. Larger tro-phies will be other ideas, waiting for quotes.Registration bags are being done by Mari using abranded Purina bag, as a giveaway to registered par-ticipants, there will not be a charge for this, con-tents are donated by Purina, Drewsar and Rens. Wecould do our own show branding on a luggage tag, which could be used later on personal luggage.Harry suggests hat purchases $7 each. Henri has acaterer for the show site party, north of the 401, thebanquet caterer also does off-site catering. Roslynand Henri will continue offline to coordinate this.

Boat purchaseRoy Vokes has researched and recommends purchas-ing a new boat, costing approximately $1,495.00plus taxes. He further recommends selling the blueboat, which sits high in the water and makes it diffi-cult for dogs to jump from. Should we keep it as aback up rather than selling it? Trailering issue, wehave a double and single trailer. Herb moves thatthe PWDCC purchase a new boat recommended byRoy Vokes, Mindy seconds. Approved.

Henri brought up Club merchandiseRecommending the PWDCC consider demand order-ing of merchandise from Humber College supplier.Special machinery to allow for one off orders.Shipping is $10.00 an item. A web site can bedeveloped for ordering 3/4 business days turnaround. So rather than have pre-ordered pre-pur-chased inventory, we could use this system. Howmuch is ordered online? When you have an eventyou need to have the goods there? This would makemerchandise available across the country. There isthe option of broader use of items. Let’s talk to peo-ple who are managing this feature. Important tohave merchandise at events. But stock is limitedin sizes/colours for men’s items. With just in timeordering you can increase the range of itemsoffered. Henri will send out link to Mindy so shecan see what is offered. Quality is good.

Report of Regional Specialty Committee at Elora inDecemberWe now have CKC approval for the show and judge.Judge is confirmed, Virginia Lyne. We will be havinga dinner after the Specialty at the show, catered bythe Bingeman’s banquet facility at the show site. The Judge is not able to attend unless we have aluncheon which is an option. There will be a boosterthe day before the Specialty. There will be Juniorhandling, Stud dog, Brood bitch classes but noSweepstakes. Perhaps we can arrange to have some-one interview the judge and her comments could beshared at the event and for the Waterlog.

Changes to Breed Standard documentThis is the insert that was included with theFebruary Waterlog. The people whose dogs were onthe cover were mailed copies as a thank you. CarlaMolinari, as the custodian of the Bensaude archives, was sent copies and requested a change to includesome European dogs showing the longer coat theyare typically presented in. She is now happy withthe changes to the cover. The standards documentwas published on our website and on Facebook by aPWDCA member and with resulting requests we willsend out to those who wish them. We will charge forthis to cover our costs. Herb suggests that copies ofthis be available at the Specialty in our registrationpackages. This document has been very wellreceived by the PWD world.

Kijiji Ad for QuebecAs a result of the Kijiji ad there was a request by aFrench-speaking lady for an adult dog. What can wedo to help her? There was discussion about sendingan email to Quebec breeders who are French speak-ing. But there is the issue of the board brokeringdogs, even though we don’t take money for this. Arethe older dogs being sold or given away? Does thisput us in conflict with our own breeder list whereour members are paying to participate, if you have alitter of 10 puppies, the cost is $350.00 ($150.00and $20.00 per puppy) Is there a French speakingperson on the list? It varies every year, this year onlyHenri Berube speaks French. Difficult to make anexception in this case. What about a blast out toentire membership? Is this just information, or bro-kering? What about using the club Forums?Unfortunately they aren’t used, forums seem to havebeen replaced by social networking. Can’t this per-son find someone help her to navigate with Englishspeaking people? Not really a board issue, but cameout of ad placed in Quebec. Let’s encourage her tofind Quebec breeders, and we’ll blast everyone onthe breeder list and ask do you speak French? Henriwill be noted that he is a French speaking memberof the breeder list. “parle francais”.

National Specialty update reportRoslyn: everything is moving ahead, all entries areopen on line on our web site. The ribbon selectionshave been sent to MJN but they don’t respond torequests for confirmation. Mindy’s trophy selectionis powder coated cutout PWD garden ornaments invarious sizes in aluminum with removable spikes, 6-8” for smaller trophies, 18” for larger ones. This isfor the top awards, and irregular and unofficial win-ners. For BISS trophy, we’ll offer a custom one ofthe winning dog. Dog in lion trim, all are black.Class awards are 8 x 10 silver/wood frames, 2-4placements are 5 x 7 frames the same style. We’llorder quantities that are reasonable and when wehave the actual numbers check our quantities. Asthe frames are stock, if we need more, we can moreeasily fulfill the numbers.

Some audio interference from Mindy using hercomputer.

Breeder PolicyCindy Berube has resigned her position as BreederContact effective Dec. 31, 2012. We don’t know ifthis is a direct response to the new policy. Thereseems to be issues with execution. It appears thatvery few people are complying. Cindy does not wantto have to police breeders. Herb followed up to seeif he could get compliance. An Alberta breederresigned from the list going forward. If solid breed-ers are not complying perhaps we have to look atthe policy, what are the issues? Is it too onerous tosend in health certificates on the sire and damwhen you breed? People are not requesting thepuppy packages. Didn’t forsee that breeders wouldjust not comply. Cindy has attempted to remind peo-ple, we have eblasted the breeders. Should we can-vas our breeders either by focus group or survey toask what is reasonable? It is better to have some-thing that people will comply with? Now with the2012 regulations every litter that is bred must sup-ply health documents and every litter must bepuppy members. In the past, when you wanted a lit-ter due listing you needed to send in health docu-ments and puppy membership was a voluntary pro-gram. We could go back to a voluntary puppy pro-gram. Henri was a strong advocate for the changes,he agrees that not a problem in how the changeswere communicated. The original issue was thatthe breeder list appeared to the public that it wasan endorsement. The aim was to give the list some‘teeth’. If these changes to the policy are causinglarger problems in the club we must address this. Are we more onerous than the US policy? No. Therewas always the understanding that we would revisitthe policy to fine tune the regulations. Such asbreeding with non Canadian dogs. It appears thatpeople might find the new policy intrusive.

Maybe a survey will illuminate what the issues areand will help us amend the policy to make it moreworkable. People are not communicating to us whatissues might be, they are just not complying. TheUS club has similar issues. Some of the people arenot complying just in part. Some breeders may feelthe health testing policy is out of step with currentrealities, are there any dogs breeding now who arecarrier’s of GM-1. Is it no longer relevant? Shouldthe health requirements be amended? Not readyto open this up right now. Regulations can be modi-fied. Before, people on the list who didn’t use thelitter due could be there and not have health test-ing. Do we do the survey, or do we reverse thechanges and take a stepped approach or is that con-fusing also. The perception is that the list is one ofapproved breeders by the general public. Eventhough the disclaimer at the top of the list explainsthe criteria of the list. The American program allowsfor only one parent tested for GM-1, they alsoaccept CHIC clear by parentage for one generation.

However, breeders in Canada who claim ‘clear byparentage’ may or may not have DNA testing verify-ing parentage. The initiative is strong and sound, but the execution is not working. The idea was notto exclude breeders.

The survey could simply ask:

Do you believe that there should health testingregulations? Yes No

If so, do you feel you understand the current clubregulations?

Do you have any recommendations to modify theregulations to make compliance easy?

Would you be willing to discuss your issues on aclub conference call with the board and otherbreeders?

We could invite breeders to an open forum night tomake presentations to the executive.

Can we table this til after the Specialty? Should weamend the policy in the interim? Let it stand for thenext couple of months until we have a clear direc-tion for going forward. Or we could revert to formerregulations. But it appears like capitulation beforewe know what the issues are?

The support for the program has decreased signifi-cantly. What are we to do in the interim when peo-ple are not complying? There is a breeder who hasnot sent in her puppy memberships. Cindy sent tworequests asking how many pkg were required.Another breeder originally didn’t send in health test-ing, she simply forgot, and then did send in thehealth testing. If some pups aren’t sold, could shebe waiting? If that is the case, we should wait. Herbwill send out emails, and Cindy will remove peoplefrom the list if that becomes necessary.

Old BusinessNational Specialty Catering events are moving for-ward, all trophies are ordered. But low registrationfor social events, could all board members whointend to come please register and encourage alltheir friends to register. And if you intend to donateto either Trophy fund and Silent Auction please doso now. Right now there are 15 people registered forthe Banquet. It will cause the people who are work-ing on organizing this undue difficulty and thecaterers need notice soon. Brawna Levy is workingvery hard on organizing hospitality, judges and mer-chandise events. Perhaps people wait until the lastminute to register both dogs and people events. Ourjudge will have to take a car both ways to and fromthe airport as the volunteer has a conflict. TheBanquet program will have to be worked out so thecaterer can schedule the meal. The presentationsare judges’ speeches, Silent Auction and Raffleitems (basket, tub and dog bed), Thank you’s andannounce the top prizes.

New BusinessAlberta Water Trial, new site and application madeto the Water Trial committee, could be an algaeproblem, however, in September temperatures arecooler so less likely. Algae is a problem all overAlberta, weather will dictate. The Proviso that theboard should make is that the water quality be test-ed before the event. The park wouldn’t allow swim-ming if there is a bloom. Mindy moves that theboard approve the Water Trial at Wizard Lake sub-ject to that there are no government advisories forgreen algae and that the insurance policy of thepark is acceptable, seconded by Roslyn. New BusinessResignation from the PWDCC Board by JudyCheguis, reply by Roslyn Eskind, email from Henrito Herb.

Judy in her resignation letter criticized someaspects of the 2012 Specialty. Roslyn replied toJudy by email and Henri commented to Herb in anemail. In response, in the future, cash donations tothe Silent Auction should be acknowledged at theevent. Language describing cash donations willmake clear that money will be used at the organiz-er’s discretion to purchase items not necessarily forthe exact amount donated, there may be severalitems purchased or funds may be grouped. Rally, wewere informed very late by the Show Secretary thatwe couldn’t give a ribbon for Rally, the qualifiers gota trophy, and the results were announced at theBanquet. Judy’s donation for Rally was diverted toObedience as indicated in the show catalogue. Sheshould have been informed and if something of thisnature occurs again, the donator will be informed. The Obedience HIT ribbon which was not availableat the show will be sent to Robin. This was again anissue with the Show Secretary who supplied the rib-bons. Other issues by Judy raised were misplaced, free parties? Additionally, we will acknowledge cashdonations to the Silent Auction in the Waterlog.Three other people donated cash but no one elsehad an issue.

We do have some issues with director distributionacross the country to comply with CKC regulations. We can cast a broader net, Mindy has some ideas ofpeople to contact. A CKC board member hasassured Herb that as long as we make an effort tocomply with regional representation on our board weshould not have an issue with the CKC. The rulespecifies that the club have directors from 4 of the6 regions: Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario, Prairies, B.C.Yukon and Territories.

It would be good to have someone on the board whois not a breeder. There are strong and passionatepet people and it would be great to have their per-spective and input.

We need more people who are involved in perform-ance, water is what will grow our club. In Ontario

Old Business

National Specialty re Water Trial signage: DebGraffmann of Kilbride has been contacted by thelocal bylaw enforcement in Waterloo about our WaterTrial signage posted on a public road. The reportedfine is $600.00. If we receive a summons we cantry to fight it. (Subsequent contact by the WaterlooRegional Bylaw enforcement officer was purelyinformational, there will not be a summons or fine,in fact, she wanted to return our sign.)

We’re waiting for reconciliations from Kilbride andMJN and Brawna. Ballpark there is probably a lossof up to $6,500.00. As soon as I have the final fig-ures I will distribute the report. There was a requestfor a Best Veteran Female ribbon. However, this wasnot an award in our premium. This person receivedthe best veteran overall. The show secretary advisedHerb that there was no Best Veteran Female award.Herb will check again with MJN. Good feedbackfrom judges, they felt well cared for and thought itwas a great specialty.

Mindy’s awards were outstanding, and her MC’ing atthe Banquet added to the ambience and made it afriendly, warm event, people stayed, the Raffleearned $498.00, (some US currency), the SilentAuction was well attended. The prizes and ribbonswere commented on by people at ringside. Therewere lots of extra ribbons, there weren’t that manyabsences, and the order was to our counts, Roslynwill take an inventory to determine what these extraribbons were. Kilbride wants us back next year, how-ever, it is probably too onerous to hold a yearly spe-cialty. Also, we have tried to move the Specialtyacross the country. Robin, the president of theAlberta regional club, and Herb spoke about havinga closer relationship between the national andAlberta clubs. Perhaps Alberta might consider aRegional Specialty? Should we consider a yearlySpecialty? There were some issues withKilbride/MJN organization. Kilbride offered to sharethe cost of our tent as they used it for the WHSpecialty on Sunday. MJN was late with the cata-logue pages and there were errors in the entry num-bers. For the Working and Herding Specialty allWorking Veterans were not allowed back in the ringat breed judging by MJN even though the languagedescribing Veteran judging was identical to the lan-guage for our and other specialties where Veteranswere included in breed judging as is the norm.

Breeder Program SurveyThere has been a lack of compliance with thechanges to the Breeder program made in 2012.We have discussed a simple survey to seek inputand understand the issues from the breeders’perspective to make the program more responsive.Henri will circulate some questions together.

Selling the Blue BoatRoy would like to buy the single boat trailer, andsuggests selling the blue boat. We could blast themembers, and perhaps Roy will help us determinean appropriate price. If no members are interestedwe could then post on the PWD lists. Its been sug-gested that the club purchase a matching boat tothe new boat which is light and very maneuverable, and collapsible fencing at approximately $250.00that would make site set up, storage and transporta-tion very easy. Let’s ask for a quote and specs onthe fencing. Roslyn moves to sell the Blue Boat, making it available to members first on the clubweb site and in the Waterlog and then to the PWDcommunity and then publicly, seconded by Henri.Approved.

NAME: Seabury’s Franklin in the Dark, Franklin.

NICKNAMES: Frankie, Frankie Frank, Frankly.

DATE OF BIRTH: July 12, 2012.

LEADER OF MY PACK: Roslyn, then my mom, Ruby, then my grannie Tikka, and of course, Mr. Schooner is unap-

proachable for a little pup like me. John is really nice and lots

of fun to play with.

EDUCATION: I’m at When Hounds Fly, learning with clicker

training and targeting all the rules for pups.

LEISURE TIME ACTIVITIES: Love the country, my sisterLicorice showed us we could fit through the fencing and go

running in the tall grass and the woods. Seems the people

aren’t so happy with that.

PET PEEVE: My pesky sister Sophie, she gets in my waywhen I want to have the people’s attention. When is she going

away anyway? I’m staying cuz I’m BROWN, and the people

never kept one like me. I’m just like my dad I’m told.

FAVOURITE NON-CONSUMABLE: Well last weekend mysister and I ate a kitchen drawer front, John was not amused!

How were we to know it was not for us?

SPECIAL SKILL: Giving that focus look, earns me lots ofpraise and those treats.

BIGGEST CATASTROPHE: Aforementioned drawer andsomething about some adjacent baseboards, who knew?

BATHING AND GROOMING TOLERANCE: I’m really

quite good about that, had my second butt and face shaving,

much better than Sophie, la, la, la, la, la, la. So I look like a

proper PWD, not like her with her fuzzy face.

TOYS OF CHOICE: Kongs, stuffies, food balls, what fun.

MOST ASHAMED OF: Not much.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO BEWHEN I GROW UP:I’d like to be a working dog with titles on both ends. I hear

that is the ultimate.

Franklin lives with John Brown and Roslyn Eskind in Toronto

and Grafton Ontario. He can be found most workdays in the

office with his sister Sophie learning to be a good office dog.

On weekends he romps in the country and with the whole

family.

From the BoardTo all PWDCC Breeders andthose who currently participate in the Breeder Program on thePWDCC web site

For 2013 the Breeder Programwill revert to 2011 Policy.Details following:

The PWDCC Breeder Program was devel-oped to support PWDCC Rescue to coverthe expenses of assessing and re-homingPWDs. Our Member Code of Ethicsrequires all member breeders to assumelife-long responsibility for re-homing allpuppies they produce should this be nec-essary. But, as the PWDCC is often facedwith non-member breeders who don’t takeresponsibility for their dogs, PWDCCRescue steps in to re-home these dogs.

To qualify for this program, breeders mustbe members of the PWDCC for at least oneyear before being eligible to be on theBreeders’ List. (Updated March 18, 2010).Member breeders can support Rescue by

signing on to the Program and additionallyhave the benefit of being listed on theaward-winning PWDCC web site.

At the beginning of each fiscal/calendaryear, the breeder submits his/her applica-tion, the application is posted on the clubsite and mailed with membership applica-tions in October:

• A $100.00 contribution per year securesa breeder listing on the PWDCC site in theNEW PUPPY/BREEDER CONTACT section.

• There is an additional $50.00 charge fora web site link should you require this.

The web site listing is updated January31st of each year with renewed partici-pants. (Updated January 16, 2011).

Litter Due ListingEach breeder participating in a fiscal yearcan list all or any litters due by sending acompleted Litter Due form with all thesupporting health documents currentlyrequired by the PWDCC or, check the PWDHealth & Litter Database box if your dog islisted. It is recommended that all breedingdogs and each litter is registered with the

PWD Health and Litter Database. AllHealth and Litter information is nowaccepted through the PWD Health andLitter Database, online through the PWDCAweb site.

When a bitch is owned by two or morebreeders, all breeders have to be membersof the PWDCC in good standing and allbreeders have to be participants of thePWDCC Breeder Program and be individu-ally listed on the PWDCC web site.

The Breeder Contact coordinator activatesthe LITTER DUE ENTRY. It is requestedthat all breeders notify the coordinatorwhen their litter is sold. At that time thelisting is removed.

Participation in the Breeder Program does not confer endorsement by thePWDCC of any kennel, its breeding program or practices.
