Code of Conduct

A chance for Faramir, Captain of Gondor, to show his quality.

- Faramir

Here at Warhammer World we expect everyone to use fully painted and assembled models and to treat everyone they

encounter with civility and respect.

This is just as true during your games - especially at a Throne of Skulls where the objective is enjoy fun games for both

players and spend time with quality, like-minded people. We want everyone to enjoy themselves, and play through a good

game that comes to a satisfying conclusion, as opposed to quick, overly-competitive games that can end too quickly for

both players to enjoy themselves to the full.

At a these events, the mighty Throne of Skulls is raised by the player with the most Favourite Game Votes, so that’s

definitely worth bearing in mind if you aim to be crowned champion of the event.

Even more Food!

”...then we eats it!” - Gollum™

Anyone who has the same appetite as a Hobbit is

free to purchase any second breakfasts, elevenses,

third breakfasts and other supplementary meals

from Bugman’s Bar, which provide a fine

selection of food and drink (in comes in pints!) to

indulge in.

In addition to that we often run the legendary

Green Dragon Pub Quiz on the weekend as well,

so keep an eye out on Facebook closer to the

event to confirm that it’s on.

The War of the Ring

The Throne of Skulls has always been a gaming event that embraces

the wild and whacky, and this year we’re going the extra mile by

inviting you to join us in something completely new:

Eagle-eyed hobbyists who have a copy of The Hobbit: Motion

Picture Trilogy™ There and Back Again, will have noticed the

‘Armies’ section in that sourcebook, which provides special bonuses

if you selected specific, thematic armies for your Matched Play

games. Ever looking to develop the Strategy Battle Game, and keen

to do something exciting for the community, the Middle-earth Team

have written a matching set of bonuses for the armies of The Lord of

the Rings™ (and the remaining ones from The Hobbit™), for you to

try out at this event.

We’ll be making all of these available in a ‘Scenarios and Armies’

document in the very near future. With an eye to the future of the game, the Middle-earth team will also

be holding a short feedback session about these army bonuses in the

Staff Restaurant ahead of the awards ceremony, and a small feedback

form will be handed out for you to jot down any thoughts you might have!

Your Models, Conversions and Proxies “You are Isildur’s Heir, not Isildur himself” – Arwen™

Here at Warhammer World we have a set standard for all our gaming events –

that all models (including legs, arms, heads, weapons and so on – the whole

model) are 100% Games Workshop models and that they are fully painted

and based. There are no exceptions to these rules.

Additionally, all of the miniatures you bring (including all components) must be fully

assembled, painted and based. For the sake of clarity for your opponents, and to avoid

mid-game confusion, we also require that each model represents exactly what it is on your

army list (including all weapons and equipment). Models with pikes need pikes, not

spears; and as axes and swords and so on are very different now, it’s even

more important than ever to make sure your models are What You See Is

What You Get (WYSIWYG).

However, we understand that there are a number of miniatures not currently available in our ranges. We do

insist, that where a model is still available, you use the correct model for the sake of clarity to your

opponents. If a model is no longer available, it is perfectly acceptable to use a suitable conversion. All we

ask is that it is 100% obvious to your opponent as to what it represents. If you are unsure as to whether it is

obvious, please do email us using the email address at the end of this pack and we will put your mind at

ease!

For example, there are multiple unit entries for certain characters - there are three separate profiles for

Galadriel™ for example (Galadriel; Galadriel, Protectress of Lothlórien and Galadriel, Lady of Light). As

there are very different rules associated with each of these units we ask that you use the correct model. This

means your opponent doesn’t have to keep remembering throughout the game that a model actually has a

shield on, isn’t wearing armour, or is able to use a certain Magical Power or special rule that is absent on the

other unit entry.

This is to prevent confusion and upset players mid-game and makes the event much more enjoyable and

immersive for everyone!

By all means get in touch using our contact details at the end of this pack if you need any further

clarification.

Mustering your Forces “I’m going on an adventure!” – Bilbo Baggins™

To play in this event, you’ll need to bring with you an army of miniatures. You may

select a force worth up to 1,000 points, using the “Choosing an Army” guide on

page 100 of the The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ rules manual. There is

no need to hand in an army list when you register, but please ensure you have

one available to show your opponents upon request.

It’s important to note that you may indeed use models and rules from

the entire The Hobbit™ and The Lord of the Rings™ Strategy Battle

Game ranges, including all current and classic miniatures.

The Games “I will have WAR!” - Thorin Oakenshield™

Please note: We will ask you during registration if you have any unpainted or unbased models left to finish.

If you do, let us know and we will tell you what needs to be done in order to get the models up to standard

for the event. Then we will do our best to give you the time and space to get your models finished.

Obviously it’s best to get them done beforehand - so don’t leave it all to the last minute! If you aren’t sure

what you need to do, give us a call on 0115 900 4994 or email us at [email protected] and we

will happily talk you through what we look for. Our office hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Friday.

In addition, during the first round we will tour the hall and ask to see both your army list and your models,

to do a final double check to make sure everyone is being treated fairly.

“My game ended so quickly! What do I do?”

While it’s unlikely, we understand that bad luck sometimes happens. Though rare, what was all

set to be a tense and exciting battle can sometimes end in a brief, one-sided massacre. If this

happens and you have plenty of time left, by all means just play a second game! If you

were on the receiving end of the defeat in the previous game, its

considered good form to allow the results of the first game stand. On

the other hand if you dished out the drubbing, it would definitely go

in your favour for a Favourite Game Vote if you opted to record the

result of the second, hopefully more satisfying game!

This is a key tenant of a Throne of Skulls – your opponent’s

enjoyment (as well as your own) take precedence over winning at

all costs.

Finally, if your game ends prematurely and

you need a break, feel free to contact a

member of the Events Team. If our spare

player is free, or we have an army ready, we

will happily do our best to make sure you get

to play an enjoyable game that round.

At the heart of your Throne of Skulls experience is playing five games of The Hobbit: Strategy Battle

Game. Your opponents will be from the opposing alignment and randomly selected by the Events Team,

with games lasting up to two and a half hours.

This should provide a nice, relaxed time frame to play in, where you can take your ease and enjoy the

experience of an exciting fun game with your opponent.

Awards and how to win them ‘You have but one question to answer: How shall this day end?’

– Gandalf the Grey

Hero of Legend: For all models on foot or mounted on horse/

Warg/camel/similar sized mount.

Beast of Legend: For all monsters such as Trolls, Mumakil,

Eagles, Ents, warmachines, artillery, chariots etc. This

category is also for Heroes mounted on a monster eg

Ringwraith on Fell Beast.

This category also covers any Heroes on war machine

such as Radagast™ the Brown on his sleigh.

Company of Legend: For a warband

of no more than 10 models on foot or

6 on mount. Warbands of Monsters

and war machines may not be entered

– they have their own category. Note that

you are not obliged to enter the required Hero

from your warband if you wish to enter it in the Hero of Legend

competition instead.

Good or Evil? “We must join with Him, Gandalf. We must join with Sauron. It would be wise, my friend.” – Saruman the

White

One of the first decisions you need to make before you buy your ticket is whether you will align yourself

with Good or Evil for the weekend. This is often decided by what armies you like to use. If you love playing

with the forces of Mordor, then naturally you will be playing for the Evil side throughout the weekend. On

the other hand, if you are a firm follower of Dain Ironfoot, then you will fight for the forces of good instead.

In order to ensure that we have an even number of Good and Evil players, we will have an equal number of

tickets available for both sides for the weekend. Simply choose your side and then buy the corresponding

ticket from our ticket sales website, www.eventbrite.co.uk.

It probably goes without saying, but if you choose to buy a Good ticket, then you must choose your army

exclusively using Good models, and vice-versa for Evil. It won’t be possible to swap sides when you arrive

at the event so you should make sure your army is the right one!

Favourite Game Votes “I’m glad to be with you, Samwise Gamgee…here at the end of all things” – Frodo Baggins

At the end of the event, you get to vote for the player who gave you the most enjoyable game over the

weekend. Perhaps their army was gorgeous, or they taught you a new tactic? Perhaps they were just a

thoroughly sporting opponent. For whatever the reason, please show your appreciation for that player by

voting for them.

How to win the Throne of Skulls Only a few hobbyists have had the honour of lifting the coveted Throne of Skulls trophy and this weekend you will have your

chance. At the end of the event, the player who has earned the most Favourite Game votes from their opponents will be declared

the winner and will win the Throne of Skulls. If there are multiple players with the same number of votes received, we will use the

number of Victory Points you earned during your games as a tiebreaker.

The Best Army Award

In order to acknowledge the outstanding efforts that some players go to in order to produce stunning armies, we have the Best

Army competition. The Events team will nominate armies for everyone to vote on. The player who receives the most number of

votes will win the Best Army award.

The Great Battle of our Time

At the end of the event, all of the Victory Points scored by players from both sides (Good and Evil) will be added together and a

total produced. Whichever side has scored the most Victory Points overall will be declared the winners and glory shall be theirs!

The Fellowship Awards At the Throne of Skulls we will be awarding a series of awards to the best players from each of the nine

factions listed below. These awards are called The Fellowship awards and will be given to the players who

score most Fellowship Points over the weekend.

The Factions

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey™ rules manual The Hobbit™: Motion Picture Trilogy™ There and Back Again The Lord of the Rings™: Kingdoms of Men The Lord of the Rings™: Moria and Angmar The Lord of the Rings™: The Free Peoples The Lord of the Rings™: The Fallen Realms The Lord of the Rings™: Mordor Good Grand Alliance Evil Grand Alliance

In order to qualify for a certain faction, your army must be selected from warbands

selected solely from a single book. The exceptions are the Grand Alliances.

A Grand Alliance is any army that contains models from more than one army list across more than one book.

For example, an army that consisted of models from both the Mordor and Moria army lists would be

considered as part of the Evil Grand Alliance faction.

When you arrive on the Saturday morning, when you register as either Good or Evil, you will also need to

register as one of the nine factions depending on which one your army fits into – if you are unsure on where

your army fits, there will be someone there to help you out. Once this has been recorded you will not only be

vying against the opposing side, but also against other players from the same faction as you pursue one of the

Fellowship Awards.

So, how exactly do you win these Fellowship Awards?

Fellowship Points

Across the event you will have the opportunity to earn a series of Fellowship Points. These are awarded in

three ways.

Firstly, you will score 1 Fellowship Point for each Victory Point you score in each game. For example, if

Adam is playing against Jay and wins the game 5-3, Adam will score 5 Fellowship Points whilst Jay will

score 3.

The second way to score Fellowship Points is done by scoring your opponent after each game based around

how fun the game was and how their army is painted.

The Game – Was the game you played memorable? Was your opponent a great sport? Perhaps they were

really fun and engaging or maybe they provided you with an exciting and tactical challenge.

Theme – Is your opponent’s army themed around a specific moment from the books or the films? Were

there any clever or unique conversions to enhance the overall feel of the army?

Painting & Basing – How well was your opponent’s army painted and based? Does the army look like a

unified force? Does it incorporate clever basing elements or impressive painting techniques? Overall does it

look lovely on the battlefield?

Conduct – Did your opponent conduct themselves in a manner befitting of the noblest of Hobbits? Were

they humble in victory or cheerful in defeat? Were they a stand up warrior that you would want beside you

at the end of all things?

Each ‘Good’ rating is worth 1 Fellowship Point

Each ‘Great’ rating is worth 3 Fellowship Points

Each ‘Outstanding’ rating is worth 5 Fellowship Points

The third, and final, way to earn Fellowship Points is by earning Favourite Game Votes from your

opponents. Each favourite game vote you earn is worth an additional 5 Fellowship Points.

During ‘The End of all Things’, every player’s Fellowship Points will be totalled up and compared to all

other players from the same faction as them. The player from each faction that has earned the most

Fellowship Points will be awarded a coveted Fellowship Award and will form part of Games Workshop’s

Throne of Skulls Fellowship 2017!

We will be awarding these prizes:

Legends Painting Competition - For the winners from each category.

Best Army Nominations - For the players nominated for the Best Army Competition.

Best Army Award - For the player who earns the most votes for Best Army.

The Will of Sauron - For the Evil player who scores the most Victory Points.
