jIve had a life long love affair with denim and who hasnt, really? When I was a teenager, my mom and I would shop for my Levis at a young mens

store, Junior Gentleman, because the girls jeans were too

short on me, and you couldnt be caught dead in floods.

In the late 70s I had a pair of patchwork flares that were my

favorite date jeans. The 80s werent among my proudest

moments in denim--big shoulder denim jackets and

high-waist acid washed baggies werent very flattering in

retrospect. I currently live in BDG black high waist skinny

jeans that have become something of a uniform. I tend to

wear the things that are both comfortable physically and

mentally on a daily basis, and that often involves denim.

As Im writing this on vacation in the Caribbean, Im

wearing 4-year old BDG denim cutoffs and a J. Crew

chambray shirt. Though I packed a suitcase full of clothes,

Ive worn this outfit more days than I should have without

doing laundry, but hey, Im on vacation.

This issue of The Wallflower is dedicated to denim and I

love the variety of interpretations our artists came up with,

from Nicolette Molletts surreal Double Stitched to Steven

Visneaus whimsical World of Chaney. Special props to

stylist Brittany Winter, who made most of the clothing and

accessories from thrifted denim for World of Chaney. And

to our designer, Antimere Robinson, who had a heyday with

punny headlines--I have a trail of texts to prove it. Heres

hoping you enjoy this, our 9th issue of The Walllflower.
