Welcome to Social Enterprise Scotland’s 2011/12 Annual ReportChanging our name to Social Enterprise Scotland in 2011 was not a cosmetic exercise. It signified that social enterprise is moving to the next level in terms of our impact, reach and value to the Scottish economy. We know that we can play a stronger role, working in partnership with government, on the public sector reform agenda and delivering preventative spend models. We also know that we have a business model that works and creates jobs for Scotland, as well as having huge social benefits. More people and organisations have joined us in the past year, including our first local authority, who see the value of working with social enterprises, in the interests of the wider community. Our new name and identity has increased awareness in the media and in Parliament, where we now have, for the first time, a Cross-Party Group on social enterprise. This is Scotland’s new policy forum for fresh ideas. We also hit a new level with the Social Enterprise Exchange in Glasgow at the end of the year, attracting 1,250 delegates and international participants from 26 countries - the largest social enterprise gathering in the world. I am delighted to welcome our new Chief Executive, Fraser Kelly. He is now leading our small but highly effective staff team of four and working with the Board to keep pace and purpose in what we do. Finally, a huge thank you to all Members and Associates - we look forward to working with you again over the coming year to promote and grow our thriving social enterprise community.
