vi·o·lin
The violin is a hallow wooden
box with an elegant neck and
four strings. The violinist’s
right hand glides or bounces
a bow made of horse hair
across the strings to produce
a sound. Notes are played by
pressing one or more strings
against the violin’s neck with
the left fingers.

The violin is capable of
making two very different
sounds. It can be played by
plucking the strings with
your fingers (pizzicato) or by
playing with a bow (arco).
