MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Seasons Greeting Sorors,
It brings great pleasure to extend heartfelt greetings to each of you in
the first edition of the Paterson Alumnae Chapter Newsletter!
As we close the first half of the Sorority year I want to
thank you for all of your hard work and commitment
in making sure our programs were a success.
A special thanks to the chairs, co -chairs and
the entire leadership team; without you, it could
not have happened!
We have been moving steadfastly since the bus left
for the Regional Conference in August and have not
slowed down making sure the work of Delta was
done in our community. During this Holiday Season
let’s remember the reason for the season; be a blessing
to those who are less fortunate and thankful for good
health and family! Please take some time over the holidays to recharge
your batteries and gear up for the second half of the Sorority year.
Thank you Information and Communications for capturing and
showcasing our work in the community, and especially for your vision
in creating our own Chapter Newsletter!
Merry Christmas & Best Wishes for a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous
New Year!
In Sisterly Love, Audrey

(I&C) is responsible for serving as the public

assisting committee chairs with creating flyers, posters etc.
• The creation of Ads
• The preparation of news releases about the
chapter’s community-based activities
• Maintaining a vital presence on Social Media,
(Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)
As you can see our committee is small but excited!
We recognize there is much work to be done by our very
active and community service focused chapter. So if you
are interested in joining our team, please feel free to
contact anyone on the committee.
The Jazz and the Arts series of The Arts and Letters
Committee of Paterson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority Inc., brought to the spotlight the jazz musical trio
“TAse” and spoken word artist Jasmine DeWees-Inspirational
Poet.
The evening was swinging, full of musical improvisations,
sophistication, cool ambiance and yes, the poignant and prolific
poetry of a young artist with a voice and artistry that enlightened
over 100 hundred attendees. The event was hosted under the
direction of Chair Sophia H. Jones and Co-Chair Ada Downing.

The Social Action Committee (SAC)
of Paterson Alumnae Chapter of
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Chair Candice Cotton along with her
Co-Chair Tammy McLean kicked off
the 2014-2015 sorority year by
teaming up with Freeholder T. J Best
to help pack and distribute backpacks
to community children. Parents were
appreciative and the smiles from the
children…..priceless!
As the holiday season approached, in
November the PAC SAC worked in
partnership with P.S. School No. 6
and area social workers to identify
families to assist for Thanksgiving
Day. The SAC collected goods from
the chapter committees and made
door to door morning deliveries to
families for a scrumptious and
nutritious holiday meal.
Winter 2014
On Thanksgiving day, PAC/SAC partnered with The Dr. Betty Shabazz Academy Chair
Saleemah Brown, Co-Chair Genea Veal-Ayers, Delta GEMS Chair Tabitha Riley, Co-
Chair Latoya Harris and our young women along with Councilwoman Ruby Cotton and
the Bronze Shield at The Masonic Temple for the annual Community Dinner . SAC
collected and organized the clothing drive and assisted with the Thanksgiving day meal.

Keeping in Stride, the Social Action
Committee joined the fight against
breast cancer by participating
in the October 19th walk-
Making Strides at New Overpeck Park
in Ridgefield Park, NJ. Team Delta of
PAC was right in step with The Dr. Betty
Shabazz Academy and Delta GEMS, their parents and numerous
supporters. Team Delta organized a team, created a fundraising
webpage, and raised funds to help save birthdays! It was a
rewarding day for Deltas to Wear Pink Too.
This Christmas Season,
PAC’s community service
project included KOIP:
Kids of Incarcerated Parents.
During the party, PAC
delivered Christmas gifts
and provided food for children
of the KOIP organization,
which was started from the
efforts of Jahmier Wilson.

As we prepare for Founders Day and the season of
recommitment to the ideals set by the original “22,”
let’s redefine ourselves and reclaim our Sorors into
this glorious sisterhood and dynamic chapter. We are
the Pearls Of Passaic County and THE VIOLET has
aims to highlight why we can carry that title. I am
honored to be the Journalist for Paterson Alumnae
Chapter and work with the Information &
Communications Team to shine a spotlight on our
very own chapter Sorors as well as keep the
community informed of the great work we do
collectively in the Passaic County area.
