NV Deutz Brut Champagne

The Brut Classic is a definitive non-vintage blend, with equal proportions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier rounded out by a high proportion (20-40%) of reserve wines.

1 x 75cl in presentation gift box:Usually £34.99

Vintage Deutz Champagne

The Brut Vintage expresses the depth and power of the Pinot Noir in and around Aÿ, with 30% Chardonnay for lift and finesse.

1 x 75cl in presentation gift box:Usually £49.99

Sparkling wine is the perfect way to start your Christmas celebration or meal. This year we bring you two classics of this style: Deutz from Champagne and, celebrating our own wines, we have some stunners from Court Garden, Sussex.

Champagne Deutz

Deutz is the epitome of understated excellence. Founded in 1838, the House is situated not in the conspicuously commercial centres of Reims or Épernay, but amongst the vineyards of one of the region’s greatest villages: Aÿ-Champagne. This sums up Deutz’s approach, in which style is always matched by substance.

Court Garden 2010Vintage Classic Cuvée

Pale straw in colour, the nose displays floral characteristics. There is a burst of citrus balanced with a touch of sweetness. The palate has a wonderfully generous mousse that opens up lemon flavours with a sherbet finish. Brilliant as an aperitif on its own or wonderful paired with seafood.

£24.99

Court Garden 2010Vintage Blanc de Blancs

Made from 100% Chardonnay, this is my favourite of the three Court Garden wines. Elegant, refined fruit on the palate, a lovely fresh citrus mousse, long supple flavours. A subtle bouquet showing touches of brioche and acacia with citrus notes. A generous dosage gives the wine a touch more weight and counters the freshness well. There is even a touch of minerality on the finish.

£27.99

Flying the flag for the local wine industry is Howard Corney, a trained architect, a sheep keeper and now a wine producer!

Located just down the road in Ditchling, East Sussex, in the lea of the South Downs, Court Gardens Farm has a long history of farming, appearing on one of the earliest maps of Sussex, Yeakell and Gardner's map of 1778- 1783.

Just to the north of Ditchling, Howard planted his first vineyard in spring of 2005 on a beautiful south facing slope with the South Downs as a backdrop. Originally supplying the next door winery, Ridgeview, with grapes, in 2010 Howard took the adventurous decision to go it alone and we are delighted he has. I also love his labels!

Court Garden 2010Vintage Blanc de Noir

Made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this Blanc de Noir displays those richer, fuller notes associated with the two varieties. A touch darker in colour than the Blanc de Blancs, on the palate the wine has more weight and a touch more complexity with a long, intense finish. The mousse is a little more pronounced and has a touch more depth. The finish is long-lasting and beautifully balanced. Being made from only red grapes makes it a very distinctive wine.

2009 Mendoza, Bramare Malbec Luján de Cuyo

The vineyard of Luján de Cuyo has a superb climate for growing top quality Malbec. This wine is dark red in the glass with notes of plum, cassis, and ripe blackberries, which integrate perfectly with sweet spices and vanilla. The wine is rounded, concentrated, and possesses a great structure. Voluminous in the mouth with rich, integrated tannin and a terrific length, this is drinking well now and will age well until 2020.

2 Classic Burgundies Gift Set:

2010 Pouilly-Fuissé, Olivier Larochette

A lovely Pouilly Fuissé from the excellent 2010 vintage. Drinking very well now, this will also develop beautifully over the next couple of years. Pale golden in colour with some green hints, opening with delightful notes of peach stone, ripe nectarine and edges of citrus. On the palate it is complex, with some honeyed notes appearing, retaining a delightful freshness, there is some lovely depth here too, with a delicate minerality on the finish.

2009 Pommard, Vaudoisey-Creusefond

This award winning Domaine has made a sublime Pommard in 2009. Big, rich muscular Pommard often needs a great vintage like 2009 to rub off the rustic edges tougher vintages produce. Here the ripeness shines through giving us this big, glossy beauty that is crying out for a fabulous Côte de Beouf.

Classic Bordeaux

2007 Château La Croix de Grézard – Lussac St Émilion – A Bordelais Bargain!

Château La Croix de Grézard is both English owned and managed, with the legendary Bill Bolter at the helm of the winemaking. This is a classic, medium bodied, smooth drinking claret

from Bordeaux’s right bank. This vintage has produced juicy ripe plummy flavours with firm structure and soft tannins, creating the perfect balance, with an abundant lingering finish.

Individual Bottle in a presentation box: £15.99Special Six Pack in a presentation box: £75Full Case (original box): £120

2009 Château du Cèdre, Cahors

Cahors is the home of Malbec where it has historically been labelled as “The Black Wine”. This stunning wine is dark and opaque, its intense bouquet is full of dark fruit, smoke, chocolate and spices. Dense and soft, wild but yet supple, this wine is simply stunning. Drinking well now, it will age magnificently over the next 15 years.

Two rising starsfrom New World wine

As our customers know we like wines from all over the world so this Christmas we have collected together the wines of two rising stars from New World wine making. Rijk's estate from Tulbagh, South Africa, and Paul Hobbs, from his estates in California, USA, and Mendoza, Argentina.

e've selected these two wineries because we have enjoyed the consistent quality across their range of wines and we hope you'll like them too.

Rijk's - Three Greats from Tulbagh, South Africa

I visited this estate quite by accident last year, not knowing anything about them, whilst staying next door at Rijk's Hotel (highly recommended!). It was a chance discovery that I was delighted to make as this is a wonderful boutique winery, dedicated to producing Chenin Blanc, Pinotage and Shiraz. Elegance, finesse, complexity and concentration of fruit are the hallmarks of their wines and I recommend them to you all, even Pinotage sceptics!

Few things are more traditional at Christmas time than Port.

iese & Krohn is now run by the third generation of the Falcao Carneiro family. This small boutique Port House makes some terrific Late Bottled Vintage Port, in addition to Vintage Port but my favourites are the Colheitas.

A Colheita is a vintage tawny port. Tawny is lighter in colour and style than a traditional Vintage Port but if anything is even more delicious as it is a touch more elegant. They age beautifully too and represent great value.
