Joni tells me “It’s just morphed into this great tradition of not only the things people are used to, but we introduce new things every year.” But more than just pretty rooms the Tradition of Trees is an educational opportunity, “It’s a great educational tool for the schools to use. We get a lot of second grade classes that come from all over the place” Joni says. “We bring about forty school groups through a year . We teach about the Christmas time, and holiday traditions.” She goes on to explain how Christmas has evolved through the years. “After the (Ci vil) war we adopted from Queen Victoria and the British (Christmas as) more of a family day.” She adds “Christmas  just exploded around the end of by rebecca blakeslee Outside the Lakewood YMCA there is a playground with a mural of a woman running with children.
