    As The Village Chapel begins its second century of worship and service to God, we are

    emboldened by our founding principles of Christian unity and community service, which

    were inspired by the words and example of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; through His

    death and resurrection; the Great Commission; and His prayer for unity “that we all may

    be one.”

    Located in the center and present at the inception of a community of religious expression

    - and seeking to be in harmony with the fellowship that has been a basic principle in the

    Village of Pinehurst - The Village Chapel offers a unique and gracious vision to its members

    and the community beyond: The actual reality of a church that is thankful for, dependent

    on, and inspired by the saving grace of Jesus Christ; a church that is welcoming, prayerful,

    and pre-eminent in the life of our community; and a church that—without regard for

    religious divisions within the Body of Christ—will always proclaim in thought, word, and

    deed the Good News that we are all united in Jesus Christ!

    Exodus 32:1-14 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.” 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.” 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry. 7 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’ 9 “I have seen these people,” the Lord said to Moses, “and they are a stiff-necked people. 10 Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation.” 11 But Moses sought the favor of the Lord his God. “Lord,” he said, “why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘It was with evil intent that he brought them out, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people. 13 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel, to whom you swore by your own self: ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and I will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance forever.’” 14 Then the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

    Psalm 106:1-9, 19-23 Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the Lord or fully declare his praise? Blessed are those who act justly, who always do what is right. Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise. We have sinned, even as our ancestors did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly. When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, to make his mighty power known.

    He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert. At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped an idol cast from metal. They exchanged their glorious God for an image of a bull, which eats grass. They forgot the God who saved them, who had done great things in Egypt, miracles in the land of Ham and awesome deeds by the Red Sea. So he said he would destroy them—had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

    Philippians 4:1-19 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord in this way, dear friends!2 I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 Yes, and I ask you, my true companion, help these women since they have contended at my side in the cause of the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers, whose names are in the book of life. 4 Rejoice in the Lord always.     Matthew 22:1-14 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying: 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3 He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come. 4 “Then he sent some more servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner: My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’ 5 “But they paid no attention and went off—one to his field, another to his business. 6 The rest seized his servants, mistreated them and killed them. 7 The king was enraged. He sent his army and destroyed those murderers and burned their city. 8 “Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those I invited did not deserve to come. 9 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ 10 So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. 13 “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 “For many are invited, but few are chosen.”

    CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CLASSES

    Thursday Community Bible Study – will meet weekly at 4:00 p.m. at The Care Cottage (55 Community Road in The Village of Pinehurst), or via Zoom for those who prefer not to meet in person or who are unable to meet in person. The zoom ID# is 910 295 0120. In order to utilize Zoom, you must have Zoom downloaded on your computer or phone- there is no cost for the download. Then enter the Zoom ID# and you will be connected. We begin at 4 p.m. and end at 5 p.m. We will begin studying the Book of Hebrews - chapter by chapter- which includes a beginning orientation, weekly questions sent out beforehand, and a discussion on the readings and their application to our lives today. The class is led by Pastor Ashley Smith and is open to the surrounding community. If you are interested in participating, then please provide Pastor Ashley with your email for the weekly questions at [email protected]. The questions will be sent out by Monday of each week.

    Pastor John’s Friday Class – will meet weekly from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Pastor John will teach a class on “C.S. Lewis – Reflections on the Psalms.” This will be a twelve-part class meeting each Friday through December 4. Originally published in 1958, this was the first religious book Lewis wrote after an interval of ten years. Everyone who reads it will have his insight deepened and widened by the appreciation of the poetic beauty, the psychology, and the spirituality displayed in one of the least understood books of the Bible. There is no charge for this course; all materials will be provided; and this class is open to the community. For any additional information, please call the church office at 295-6003. Women of the Chapel ❖ Women of the Chapel meeting is Tuesday, October 13, at 9:30 a.m., in Chapel Hall. ❖ Women’s Cross Ties Luncheon will be held on October 13, at The Pine Crest Inn at 12:00 p.m. in the

    main dining room, (arrive by 11:45). All women of The Village Chapel are invited to attend by reservation by the Friday prior. The maximum number of reservations allowed is 36, as set forth in the new COVID guidelines. If necessary, a waiting list will be established. In addition, a change in the Inn's policy has required that those who secure a reservation and do not attend will still be responsible for the $15.00 luncheon fee. Face masks will be required.     My Beautiful Stutter October 18th

    The Youth of the Chapel will have an opportunity to watch a

    documentary entitled, “My Beautiful Stutter” on Sunday, October 18th at

    4:45pm at the Care Cottage. Ms. Vickie and Stephen Gourley, our

    Director of Music, will offer a question and answer discussion to follow.

    Feed and Clothe My Children The Village Chapel Outreach is partnering with Eagle Springs Baptist Church to provide necessities for their community.

    A simple $25 check written to The Village Chapel with memo of Feed and Clothe will buy a $20 debit card and a $5

    pack of socks. We will purchase $20 debit cards from the Food Lion in Seven Lakes which is the only chain in this

    otherwise “food desert.” The socks will be purchased at Mid Pines Hosiery near Sanford. This is a Christian outlet store.

    A second option is to simply pick up debit cards as you shop at your favorite grocery chain. The pastor at Eagle Springs

    will use these to buy items for his food pantry which are then distributed to the community.

    The October Herald has a full explanation of this outreach effort. The leaders at Eagle Springs Baptist Church are very

    appreciative of our reaching to them. We can help them in their efforts to show the people to Christ instead of escaping

    with drugs. Please give this opportunity to help evangelize through word and deed to those in need as a priority as we

    enter the season of Thanksgiving. We thank you in advance for taking the time to read this article and for your participation with this outreach.

    Angel Tree Sign-up

    Thank you to all of the people that have adopted or donated to the Angel Tree this year. Right, now we still need 50 families adopted!! Please consider helping us out and sharing the Christmas Spirit with a family in need this year! Due to Covid-19 the need is greater and our way of doing things will change to make sure everyone is safe.

    Important dates to remember: Sunday, December 6th

    Please drop off your gifts labeled with your family name and number to Chapel Hall from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The gifts can be wrapped or unwrapped.

    Monday, December 7th Drop off of gifts from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We will also be wrapping gifts and will need volunteers. We will social distance

    with one person wrapping per table.

    Tuesday, December 8th Gift wrapping continues.

    Wednesday, December 9 Friday the 11th - We will be wrapping and organizing for the drive thru pick up as needed.

    Saturday, December 12th Drive thru distribution of gifts with recipients scheduled for pick up times during the hours of 9 a.m. to noon. We will need volunteers to help load the cars for this pick up. Workers will need to dress for the weather, there will be a few

    inside positions, please let me know what you prefer when you volunteer.
