The Viking View Sacred Heart School James L. Faroh, Sr., Principal
“Where God and Education Lead the Way” September 2014
VOL. 6 ISSUE 2
A Note from the Principal The 2014-2015 school year began with a very well-attended “Meet the Teacher Night.” It was good to see so many of our families attend this event. The spirit of the night helped set the tone for another wonderful school year. Our theme this year is again, “Going Above & Beyond!” It is the goal of the entire staff to take each student, meet them at his or her level, and go beyond to help them reach their highest achievements. We look forward to working with all the families in forming a partnership for their child’s academic progress. As the Sacred Heart Home and School family partnership works together, great things will happen. We have several new families, and we welcome each and every one. Please know we are always happy to meet with you. Also, please call whenever you have a question, suggestion, or concern. Our school’s goal is to make Sacred Heart School the best it can be! Let’s all do our personal best to help all Sacred Heart Vikings make this the best year ever where all SHS students are “Going Above & Beyond!”
Educationally Yours in Christ,
James L. Faroh, Sr.

School Uniforms
Please abide by the dress code rules and if there are any questions, please ask a staff member or myself. Our dress code and uniforms help our students to, “Dress for Success!” and help us create our team!
Drop off and Pickup Procedures
For the safety of everyone, it is important that each person follows
the same drop off & pick up procedures. We feel our system is working well. Parents, we have implemented a new option that will allow you, when necessary due to time constraints, to park and walk up to the entrance doors. The dismissal teacher at the door will call for your child to come out and meet you. You are asked not to walk in and get your child at dismissal. Please,
under no circumstances should you pull into the handicap parking spaces to drop off or pick up your child(ren). Use the parking lot across
the street if there are no empty spaces. This will help with the congestion in the entryway as well as a safety measure for staff to
know with whom children are leaving. Please know that you are always welcome in the school at any other time.

NWEA Assessments
Fall NWEA Assessments will begin for Grades K - 6 on Monday, September 15th through Friday, September 26th. Students will be assessed again in May from Monday the 11th through Friday May 22nd. This will allow the school to not only monitor progress, but to help drive instruction based on students’ strengths and weaknesses. The tests are over reading, language arts and math skills. In January NWEA is administered to all Kindergarten students and any other student who their teacher feels will benefit.
A lot of questions can be answered by going to the NWEA web site at: http:www.nwea.org/
ISTEP+ Testing Dates Grades 3-6
Monday, March 2nd through Wednesday, March 11th
Monday, April 27th through Friday, May 8th
DIBELS
This year we will administer DIBELS to grades K & 1 and as needed in grades 2 & 3.
All these assessments will give your child’s teacher a very clear picture of your child’s abilities and provide a tremendous plan to guide instruction to meet each and every child’s academic program. As you may know, education today is very prescriptive which will result in tailoring instruction to a child’s needs. We are planning to continue to make great strides for student achievement. Please make every effort to have your child(ren) in school during these times.

Casual Days for a Cause
We will again have Causal Days for a Cause on the first Monday of the month. This year we are again going to have a special focus each month for the Casual Day. To participate students are required to bring in at least $1.00 to be dressed casually. The dollar or more donation will go towards a special cause each month. For the month of September, the special cause will be for Sacred Heart Caring Committee. If you choose to not have your child participate, please send your child in their normal school uniform. Please refer to your Parent/Student Handbook for guidelines for casual day attire. Thank you all in advance if you choose to participate.
