Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria was born on 24th of May in 1819 at kensington palace. Her full name was Alexandra Victoria but they used her surname to call her Queen Victoria. She had four sons (including Edward VII) and 5 daughters in total 9 children.

She reined for 63 years, seven months and 2 days. Queen Victoria died on 22 of January 1901 at Osborne at the aged of 81 years 7 months and to days.

In 1880 everybody from the age of 5-10 years old had to go to school .70-80 pupils in a class.Mostly female teachers .Boys were caned on their backside . Girls were caned on their hands or legs

Victorian toys

Poor childrenPoor children made their own toys such as rag balls. If they were lucky they could just about pay for a cheap penny toy.

Toys were very expensive- even wealthy children had few toys.

Rich childrenRich children would usually have expensive toys .Girls would play with dolls made with wax or china faces. Small girls would play with rocking horses.

Boys would play with toy soldiers and train sets.

Victorian homes

Poor children might have slept on streets, against walls or if they could afford a tiny room that they would share. Some other poor people would live in slums (which were usually at the east of London.

Richer children would live in a big house with many posh rooms in it. They would usually have nannies to look after them.

Victorian factories

Children who worked in factories had no rights in those days. They usually worked from 6am to 8pm Monday to Saturday. Children who were small were given the dirtiest jobs available, like chimney sweeps, laundry and possibly fire buildings.

They were usually injured by trapping their figures under the sewing machine and possibly killed ! They were also beaten for lateness or falling asleep at work.

Victorian Inventions

In 1840 the first green post box was invented .

In 1846 the first sewing machine was invented. In 1850 petrol was developed.

1850 Isaac singer made a sewing machine that you could use at home.

In 1851 ice-cream was invented by Jacob fussell in the ASA.
