their choregraphed dance routine. My crystal ball is cracked these days, so can’t predict what the future holds, but if I am still “in the seat.” we will plan to have our second annual Dinner Out event.
I was so very proud of the membership when you approved the second mission for the Veterans Outreach Center (VOC4). See article on page 4 for more details.
This month, we will have two (2) guest speakers. Michelle Jameson from U.S. VETS of Phoenix will be speaking about her or-
ganization and how our club has helped with their mission. We will also surprise her when Richard Brown presents her a check for $4K from our club. Our second guest speaker is Audri-na Rosales from the Girl Scouts. She is working on her Bronze Award and part of it is educat-ing the community on the American Flag. She will be checking off that square with us on Febru-

H ow deli-cious was that Bris-ket!? It was
an amazing night on January 30th, when our club and guests filled the Tewa Room to enjoy a night of celebration, a night of great conversa-tion, and a night to rec-ognize some members of the club for their efforts. Let me thank all of those that attended and made the night so much fun. And let me tell you, it was worth the price of admission to watch Dan and Lela Sarver tear up the dance floor with
ary 26th at 4:30 (see article be-low).
I am meeting with the newly formed Bocce Tournament Com-mittee later this month (Feb 20th) to start working plans for our second annual Military Services Tournament. Bill Hohman, Ste-ve Winer, and Terry Rowse will join me on the committee. Be looking for details soon.
Have a great month everyone and don’t forget Food for Kidz Pack Day on March 5th. We filled 100% of our slots. Thanks!

W ith the help of mission lead-er, Bill Hohman and club member, Scott Duke, work is underway for the club to help Audrina Rosales
(pictured here with Peoria Mayor Cathy Carlat) earn her coveted Girl Scout Bronze Award.
The Bronze Award is the third highest award in Girl Scouts of the USA. It was introduced by GSUSA in 2001, and can only be earned by Girl Scouts at the Jun-ior level.
To help Audrina reach her objectives, the club will donate all tattered, torn, or faded flags collected at our disposal boxes (Mita and Kiva Clubs) and present
those to Audrina. Additionally, Audrina will be one of our speakers this month at our club meeting (February 26th).
Finally, Audrina is donating new flags to any residents of Trilogy who needs a replacement flag for their American Flag. Bill Hohman travelled to Desert Cove, AZ earlier this month to drop off flags and to collect the new flags for res-idents.
We wish Audrina well in her quest to earn the Bronze Award. It must be not-ed that her tenacity and work ethic has her collecting over 800 new flags and re-ceiving over 400 tattered, torn, or faded flags. That is incredibly impressive!
Bronze Award
SHORT FINAL—MACH 3!
Submitted by: Joe Petter
A few days ago, departing Minot, North Dakota for Duluth, Minn.
in a Cessna Skylane, I asked ATC if the NOTAM for military
training at Duluth had the airport closed, or whether it was open to
GA traffic. He asked me to stand by for a minute, and then said,
“It’s closed at the moment, but will reopen in 30 minutes, so unless
you are doing Mach 3, you should have no problem.”
O ur Vet for the month of February 2019 is Stephen Winer. Steve was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1949 and graduated from Niles East High School, in Skokie, Illinois in 1967. The following fall he enrolled in the Automation Institute
of American computer program and began his training in operations and computer languages. In the spring of 1968, due to a mix up in the deferment program, all deferments were dropped. Frantic for wanting a choice in service he joined the Air Force in April of 1968.
All promises from the recruiter were kept and Steve was fortunate to receive a direct duty assignment, after basic train-
ing, to the Air Force Missile Command Center in California. This was another name for the series of information gathering satellites that constantly circle above. Due to the top secret clearance he was cleared for and work involved in, he was frozen in California, and spent his entire four year enlistment there.
While in California, Steve discovered is love and aptitude for art. Enrolled in a variety of art classes where every instructor encouraged him to pursue this career choice. Shortly after discharge, in 1972, Steve returned home to the Chicago area
where he met and married the love of his life, Judy, and were married in 1973. At the same time he en-rolled at the Chicago Academy of Fine Art. Once again all of his instructors were encouraging and so after a two year program he ventured out in to the professional world. Unlike many others, in the field, that had to start
in basic positions Steve started as a Graphic and Packaging designer for a major toy company. Following a short hiatus of doing custom work he then went to work for a major manufacturer of photo and ad specialties as the show and crea-tive director. While working, he discovered his ability and love for creating cus-tom art in 3-D form, and began selling works to both corporate and individual cli-ents. To this day he still pursues his passion although on a smaller scale.
Steve’s daughter, Lauren and son-in-law, Jason live in Chicago and his son, Co-rey and daughter-in-law, Michelle and grandchildren, Adeline and Escher live in
Steve and Judy moved to Trilogy in May of 2017 and quickly became a member of the Trilogy Veterans Club and has participated in a number of missions. Steve is also the current VP of the Trilogy Art Club

Answer can be found on page 13
A s many of you already know, we approved a second meal at the Vet-
erans Outreach Center for the 4th Friday of
each month.
The Vet Connection Page 4
Jose Lopes (Air Force) has stepped up to become a mission
leader, along with the support of Colleen Tucker (Air Force), his spouse. Colleen is already a mis-
sion leader for Veterans First Lim-ited, and Jose is part of the Flag/Brick Display team. This is his
first go as a mission leader.
We plan to use the exact same process as we currently do with our second Friday of the month
mission at the VOC, under the leadership of mission leader, Chris Salzer. This means waiting for the e-mail with the link to Sign
-up Genius and then following the on-screen prompts to donate.
Remember, we are naming these VOC2 and VOC4 to distinguish between what you are signing up
for. If you sign-up for one, please let someone else sign-up to help the other meal.
We are going to start VOC4
this month (Feb 22), so if you have not signed-up to help VOC2, then wait for the e-mail
link from Jose to sign-up for VOC4.

T he night could not have gone any better! Despite the organizer being worried he could not pull it off, he had
a wonderful committee to work with that helped make the evening such a success! Larry Smith, Jim Reavis,
Colleen Tucker, and Jose Lopes were instrumental in
making the evening go off nearly flawlessly.
Here are some pictures from the evening that had 130 guests attend, dance, and participate in the inaugu-ral Veterans Club Dinner Out Event. Pictures of couples were sent directly to each member.
W e continue to grow as a club and now stand at 217 total mem-
bers. This includes 166 mem-bers that have renewed and 9 new members for 2019. If you have not renewed, please download the form from the website and follow the instruc-tions. Swete, Colleen Tucker, and John Wojdyla. Logan Brown from Luke AFB was also part of the trash haulers!
Due to the number of volunteers, the area of clean-up continues to
expand in all four direction from the Circle K gas station, and we are seeing a bit more trash around the Cross Eyed Cricket /Safeway area.
Mission leader Bruce Murray and
his family took Logan to IHOP for breakfast.

W e congratulate our monthly raffle win-
ner, Pat Iannone. Pat won a $25 gift card to Cross Eyed Cricket.
For this month, our gift card will come from Harkins Movie Theater.
Will you be the next winner? All you need to do is show up at our Janu-ary 29th meeting at 4:30 and purchase a ticket for $1, or heck increase your chances and buy three!
All proceeds from the Raffle offset costs of operating the club and funding various events and op-erations.
A nother mission this month at the Grand Veterans Village found mission leader,
Richard Brown and company taking care of more rooms in preparation of the arrival of military veterans in need. Dan Martinez and Jim Long were also on hand to help, with sup-port from our Airmen at Luke AFB, Dylan and Patrick.
If you would like to help in support of the U.S. VETS’ Grand Veterans Village, con-tact Richard at [email protected] for more infor-mation.
I t was another successful outing as members of the Veterans Club headed down to the Veterans Outreach
Center to deliver a home-cooked meal. This time, Beef Stroganoff was on the menu.
A total of 21 military veterans dove into the four (4) crock-pots and there was nothing left!
As always, thanks to everyone

that volunteered their time to drive and serve these military veterans in need. Also thanks to our Luke AFB Airmen for their help in serving the meals.
Editors’ Note: Remember, we also serve a meal on the 4th Friday of each month and Jose Lopes is our mission leader for VOC4.
I saw this picture on Facebook and man, did it hit home. I am sure many of you have a similar story, but my Dad was a Korean and Vietnam War Veteran (3 Purple Hearts, Silver Star for Valor, and Bronze Star) and was a true Badass in Vietnam (he completed three tours). He passed away in November 2017 and when I saw this picture, it brought back some fond memories of my Dad and his time in uniform.

D uring the Dinner Out event last month, the President of the Club singled out two club members to be the recipient of the Presi-
dent’s Award of Merit.
Chris Salzer (Army) and Paul Bernard (Navy) were presented with the awards for their above and beyond efforts during 2018 in volunteer-ing to support military veterans in need or at-risk. Paul was humble in his
acceptance, and then there was Chris’ response to winning the award.
T rilogy Veterans Club (TVC) is operating under some new guidelines that were briefed at last month’s club
meeting. We are also looking into a new t-shirt for the club as well as the long awaited new hats. Thanks to club mem-ber, Larry DiGiovanni for doing a great job with our gift shop operation.

O ver here we have recently had some idiot in London spraying memorials
with white paint. As one of them was to a female police constable Yvonne Fletcher shot on 17 April 1984 outside the then Libyan Embassy in St James Square by someone from inside the building the choice of target seemed ran-dom. However yet again the Bomber Command War Me-morial in Green Park also came in for vandalism. As you will be aware the loss rate by death in Bomber Command in WWII was just under 45% fatalities out of a total force of 125000. A fur-ther 8400+ were injured and 9800+ taken as POWs.
The day after the vandalism the obituary for Fred Suther-land appeared in our national papers.
Editor’s Note: Peter is a mem-ber of the Veterans Club (retired from the Royal Navy) and resides over in England. He often sends me news from there, so I can share with the membership. I will print a
copy of the obituary and have it available during our meeting later t his month. We sure do miss Peter around the Trilogy community and hopes he will return soon to visit all his friends in and out of the club.
