From The Convenor’s Desk

I am honoured to be the convener of a dynamic and ever growing sports festival, Sportsaga. I have been a part of the team for last 11 years and every year brings in a new experience.

Students at ICT are excellent in almost all fields including sports. We encourage them to take up sports as a healthy hobby and provide them with all the needed facilities. Students have also made our institute proud by achieving victories in many inter college events taking place all over the state. This proves that they are excellent managers and can balance academics along with sports. Whenever I get a chance to interact with students, I always encourage them to play because I know that they are already good in studies. In fact I myself take out time from my busy schedule to indulge in sports it really helps me to rejuvenate and enjoy my work. I am really glad that every year more and more students are becoming a part of Sportsaga family and gaining all the benefits that they are entitled to get.

I hope that through this newsletter, The Vénátor, they will be able to reach out to and communicate with more people and get more students actively involved in sports as it improves the faculties of the mind, body and soul and brings about overall development of their personalities.

Lastly, I would like to say just play, have fun and enjoy the games.

Dr R.V. Adivarekar

“Sports do not build character; they reveal it.” -Heywood Hale Broun

Sports facilitates establishing a deeper connection with oneself, our surroundings and our society. It brings forth to our attention the skills we must develop as an individual to rise as a team and work towards a common goal.

W e, as the Sport Secretaries of the Institute of Chemical Technology, strive to make available all the required facilities for any and every sport being played. We urge all our fellow ICTians to souse in the Spirit of Sports and discover their latent talents by being a part of at least one sport. One need not be a master, one eventually becomes by practice and perseverance. Besides, every great master once began from the very step that we stand on now.

Our Institute has been relentlessly nurturing the best chemical engineers, great entrepreneurs and research scholars the world has ever seen. And who knows with sincere efforts, regular practice and guidance in the right direction our institute can be a home to another legend in the world of sports. The Vénátor is an extension of our efforts to reach out to more people about our activities throughout the year and encourage them to actively engage with the sports clubs through its various events and help build a vibrant sporting community in the college.

W e, as the Sports Secretaries, take a pledge that we will work honestly and dedicatedly to develop the Spirit of Sports at our Institute by encompassing the vivid and varied flavors that this World of Sports greatly offers to the sportsman that lies within each one of us. Our endeavors, while flourishing the Spirit of sportsmanship shall motivate everyone to develop themselves intellectually as a Charming Personality. Thank You. Tushar Kukreja Lakshya Asutkar

Here's To New Beginnings...

Our story began in 2005. A solid decade has passed since then and we are still going strong. With a humble beginning, we have now grown to be a force to be reckoned. This is our story; our common history, a legacy of all ICTians, Sportsaga.

Sportsaga is the annual sports festival of ICT. It was the eagerness and willingness of our alumni which led to the foundation of the biggest sports festival in Maharashtra. With extremely talented students coming from across the nation to the institute, a vibrant culture of sports is very important to hone their skills and make them all-rounders. Sportsaga strives to provide avenues for all to play various sports throughout their time in the institute. With events organised throughout the year, we ensure that everyone gets an equal opportunity to showcase their talent. It has been possible only because of the tireless efforts of everyone in the Sportsaga family- right from the Sports Secretaries to all the volunteers – who work day and night to make each edition of the festival a monumental success.

Our determination to reach higher, become stronger and achieve these goals faster is best represented by our mascot- The Tiger. It is our very soul - symbolising power, strength and the fierce spirit of competition. Its prowess, ferocity and majestic beauty is the reflection of the irrepressible spirit of Saga to conquer everything in its way and move forward with pride and say to the world, "Veni, Vidi, Vici ", meaning “We came, We saw and We conquered”.

With ten editions of this festival past us, we add another member to our family- The Vénátor. We feel proud to present the first sports based newsletter of the institute, aptly named after the Latin word for sportsman, fulfilling the long awaited dream of a medium that would give an insight into the sports culture in ICT. The Vénátor is going to be the go to place for all things related to sports in the college. In the coming months, we hope to give all the sports enthusiasts a chance to share with us their experiences, opinions, suggestions and even get featured in the newsletter. It will be a reflection of our commitment to provide an opportunity for everyone to actively engage with the Sports Club of ICT so that we can all grow together- in Spirit, Success and Splendour.

Sportsaga is not only a ten day sports extravaganza, it is also an expression of our ambition to become the best and pursue that goal pertinaciously. Our success comes from your endless support and spirited participation. We hope to see this enthusiasm continue in the coming year and look forward to the upcoming events. Until then, Jai Saga!!!

Each month brings along a new season and so does Sportsaga. Every year Sportsaga has brought a new set of enthralling events which brings together the students of ICT to celebrate the Spirit of Saga.

Sportsaga 2016, in its eleventh edition, started with a bang with the city wide CYCLOTHON event. It was organized in association with Hindustan Times on 29th, 30th and 31st May 2015 on the occasion of NO TV DAY. On the second day of this event, the event was flagged off by India's leading holistic health guru, Mickey Mehta from 360 ° gym. On the final day, we had the famous Bollywood actor, Varun Dhawan, who himself was on the forefront riding with the participants. On all the three days, participants had fun cycling on the streets of Mumbai.

The trek to Sudhagad was a perfect get away from the usual study schedules. Organized in association with UD trekkers, we had 220 students marching enthusiastically to reach the peak of the mountain. Team Sportsaga was obliged to have Dr. S. S. Jogwar who readily agreed to accompany students for the trek.

Football is played with true dedication in ICT. To give a boost to football players, every monsoon an inter-class football tournament is arranged with teams from first year to fourth year along with the post graduates; all competing with a true sense of sportsmanship. This year the tournament was held from 12th to 22nd August.

After a plethora of exciting and nail-biting matches, SY MTech boys and SY Chem Engg girls emerged victorious.

Sportsaga has begun on a grand note and with many exhilarating events lined up; stay tuned with us to have an exciting year ahead.

Jai Saga.
