The teaching experience
■ Rewarding work
■ Time consuming – a steep learning curve
■ High quality work
■ Still a lot to learn – my teaching needs to improve
Evaluations – a summary
■ I LOVED IT! I LOVED THIS MODULE!!
■ Difficult but worth it.
■ Some group members are a pain.
Evaluations- New Form of Assessment
■ Loved how we could be creative – but also it taught us a lot about the subject.
■ I liked having a new way to show what we learned.
■ Although a bit nervous initially, I felt this form of assessment was different, interesting and a great opportunity to learn and be creative in a visual manner. Overall I loved it and the whole module was brilliant. I worked harder on this than on any other module.
■ It can be quite hard to get points across in a video, you have to do it in a different way. But I liked the challenge. Hard work.
■ A really daunting challenge – but once we worked out our ‘story’ we felt it was easier.
■ Much better than doing a boring essay.
Evaluations – video skills
■ The Diamond team are diamonds. Super helpful super Creative Media Team.
■ We are not now pro film makers but we have moved beyond the starting line.
■ Video editing needs to be taught to the whole group, not half.
■ It was very difficult doing the video, however it was really worthwhile in the end.
Evaluations – Group Work
■ Not keen working in groups. (1 student).
■ The only thing I would have liked more of was checking on how groups are working together. Otherwise fantastic and I want to do something like this again.
■ I felt this was a positive exercise as everybody brought their own strengths. I was not sure what to expect when I chose this module, but I am glad I did.
The Brief
■ Collaborate in groups to make a film (assessed as a group) 70% weighting
■ Write a reflection about the process; your group’s work; your critique of the film; evaluation of using film in academic context (30% weighting)

Next time
■ More preparation sessions in class
– Intervene earlier and give feedback
– Ensure no students are excluded
■ Presentations of ideas to the class at an earlier stage
■ Brief more carefully about providing critique within the film – stronger arguments
■ Don’t rely on your interviewees to do the work of argument
■ Stronger brief about including theory in the reflective writing
Thanks!
