A Poem …
Take Time to Be Still
Take time to be still, to hear the grass grow,
View the butterfly’s flight, feel water flow.
Watch a sunrise, listen to rain,
Run fingers through a horse’s mane,
Touch a flower, dip toes in the sea,
Close your eyes and hear the buzz of a bee.
Take time for quiet, for breathing the air,
For being without thinking—no stress, no care.
Take time to just ‘be’ - walk away from the din!
Stillness rekindles God’s light within.
Happy September,
Pastor Amanda

WELCOME JEANNETTE ZAJAC
Meet our Supervised Ministry student, Jennette Zajac! Though she volunteered to
preach on August 11th, (and did a great job!) her official start date with us is Sep-
tember 15th. Pastor Jeannette is a seminary student, on her way to ordination.
She’ll be participating in leadership in our church in many ways from September to
May, preaching once per month, teaching Sunday School, shadowing Pastor
Amanda in visitations, weddings, funerals, attending meetings, etc.
She lives in Rockaway with her wife, Mary, and daughter Katie. Get to know her!
She’s looking forward to knowing you!

The United Methodist Church at Mt. Tabor

Mount Tabor, NJ 07878
We are a ‘Reconciling Congregation’ where ALL are truly welcome.
August 6, 2019
The members of the United Methodist Church at Mount Tabor participate in an annual mission called The Bridges Run, where mem-
bers work together to gather used clothing, food, and toiletries for the homeless in Newark and New York City. Our Run this year is
scheduled for Saturday, September 21st. This year, we are looking to bring 250 lunch bags, which include a sandwich, soft fruits,
dairy items, granola/fruit/cereal bars, and a water bottle.
Information for making lunch bags can be found at the Bridges website, www.bridgesoutreach.org, or on the next page of this flyer.
The most effective way to make the lunches is by making “teams” and committing to a certain number of lunches; just let us know
how many sandwiches your team plans to make so we can keep track of the total amount. On Friday, September 20th, we will also
be meeting at the church to make sandwiches as a group.
You can also begin collecting toiletry items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.), but we haven’t been given an exact number to bring on
the run with us.
We also need 10-15 volunteers to go on the run with us, and 3 or 4 of those to be drivers. To be a volunteer, you must be at least a
high school freshman. If you are interested in being a volunteer for the run, let us know by calling/texting 973-349-8647 or
emailing [email protected].
Thank you!
Warren and Michael Ververs

FOOD PANTRY SUNDAYS!
Our Food Pantry Sundays have been a great success! Thank you to all who
brought in food donations. If you didn’t receive a food pantry bag, they’re availa-
ble in worship. Food Pantry Sunday is the LAST Sunday of each month. The next
one is September 29th. August donations were 167 pounds of food!!
Pastor Amanda began her doctoral classes at Drew
University in July. We wish her much success in her
continuing education!

In a blink of an eye, the summer has come and gone! The summer months in the shop are inconsistent and hard to predict. Some days are very slow, while other days are very busy. During the month of July our monthly special was “Christmas in July”! We offered 50% off our Christmas merchandise and sold a good amount of merchandise. For the month of August, our special was 25% off furniture. Throughout the month of August, we started our transition from spring/summer clothing to fall/winter. We are looking for donations of Fall/Winter clothing and accessories. Speaking of clothing, I would like to share a story with you. A young customer by the name of Kendra works at Kessler Rehabilitation in Chester. This young lady comes in the shop and buys clothes for her patients. She uses her own money to supply clothes for patients who don’t have anything but the clothes they came in with. She comes in about once a month and the thrift shop is happy to help her by donating to her mission. Last month she asked if I would take a picture with her so she could show her boss. See you in the shop! Dawn

Garden of Peace
We are creating a beautiful garden that includes a paver patio surrounded by trees, plants, perennials, a
unique water feature and landscape lighting. This will be a special place of remembrance for our loved
ones with the interment of ashes. The patio area will be 16’ x 16’ using 12” x 12” stone pavers. Each
stone paver can be purchased and engraved in memory of our loved ones for a $500.00 donation. This
will be a great way to support the church and
remember those who have passed on. Consider reserving a place for yourself or someone special for
the future. The church is a special place to many of us and now we have a way to stay connected. This
project will be overseen by the church trustees to assure maintenance and preservation of the garden.
If you would like to reserve a space please complete the information below and send it to the church
office. Our plan is to break ground later this year! This fundraiser will help with our goal of long term
stability, all your support is greatly appreciated.

WELCOME
The United Methodist Church at Mount Tabor is a community of faith-filled friends who seek to grow closer to God through the ministry of Jesus Christ and by the guidance of the
Holy Spirit. We celebrate the history of Mount Tabor, and look with hope toward the future. Everyone is welcome here; everyone is cherished here; for everyone is a child of God. All are welcome to participate with us in our journey of faith, regardless of back-
ground, theological stance, or personal characteristics. We rejoice in God creating us to be a diverse family; and we strive to follow the Spirit’s leading as one, while maintaining and upholding our individuality. Because of the current official stance of The United Methodist
Church, we feel it is important to state a welcome to those of all sexual orientations and gender identities—You are welcome here.
God loves you just the way you are; and so do we.
