Customary Unitsof Measure

Inch- about the size of a small paper clip or the bend of your index finger

EX) A pencil is about 5inches

Foot- about the size of a sheet of paper

EX) A book is about 1 foot

Yard- About the size of a baseball bat

EX) A car is about 3 yardslong

Mile- How long you can walk in 20 minutes

EX) It is about 3 miles tothe Dollar Store

Using a Ruler

A ruler is a tool use to measure length.

When you measure some objects they land on a whole number.

Others land in between whole numbers…..

Those ticks in between whole numbers are fractions

Sometimes you will be asked to measure to the nearest inch or half inch- that is ROUNDING
