    The Uniqueness of Jesus Christ

We often refer to things that are different as Unique. But by definition, ifsomething is unique, there is no other like it anywhere.

The Lord Jesus Christ is one of a kind: neither there is, nor has there has

been, anyone like Him. He is not to be compared to any religion leader, for He is farmore than that. He performed miracles which this world has never seen before orsince, but He was far more than a worker of miracles. His uniqueness in all areaspoints to one undeniable fact: He is God Himself who took on flesh and lived amongus!

    The Uniqueness of His nature

This is found, as mentioned above, the divine and human natures of Christtwo natures united in one person. The Bible makes the claim that Jesus Christ isboth God and Man. As God He created all things (Jn. 1:1; Col. 1:16). As man He wassinless and came as the sinless substitute to die for mankinds sin. But the

declaration of Scripture and the evidence of His life affirm that He was not half manand half God, but totally man and totally God united in one Person. He is themost unique Person of the universe. No other religious leader has ever seriouslymade such a claim for no other could support it by their life.

    The Uniqueness of His miracles

The Gospel of John records several notable miracles, all for the purpose ofdemonstrating that Jesus was God Himself. One such miracle was the healing ofman who was born blind (9:1-33). This man answered the cross-examination of thePharisees with these startling words: Since the world began it has been unheard ofthat anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.John 20:30,31 states:Andtruly Jesus did many other signs (miracles) in the presence of His disciples, which

are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus isthe Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.Christs miracle working powers proved Him to be all He ever claimed to be, God inhuman form.

    The Uniqueness of His Holiness

Some of Jesus enemies brought false accusations against him, but theverdict of Pilate at his trial has been the verdict of history: And Pilate said to thechief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man(Luke 23:4). Hebrews(4:15) says that he was tempted as a man yet without sinning.Jesus himself oncechallenged accusers, Which of you convicts me of sin? (John 8:46), but no one was

able to find him guilty of anything. In Revelation, chapter 5, there is a marvelousscene witnessed by John: When no one is there, pure enough, to open the scroll, thewitness wept. All of a sudden, an angel says, Do not weep. Look! The writer seesa Lion on the Throne. Later he changes the description to the Lamb. Jesus Christalone can bring both of these together: The Lion in His power over everything as

The Leader, The King; The Lamb in His humility and offering as a Servant. And thatspotless Lamb that he was, the only one who could open the scroll. Jesus holiness isunique.

    The Uniqueness of His Purpose

Jesus came to redeem us from the bondage and penalty of sin. The apostlePaul reminded the Ephesians that God purchased the Church (us) with His ownblood (Acts 20:28). His death is unique not only because He was crucified, but alsobecause it was the fulfillment of prophecy in Psalm 22. Second, it is unique because

of the miracles surrounding his death the darkness, the earthquake and theopening of the graves. Actually His purpose is accomplished not in His death alone. It did with His resurrection. As it was predicted in OT and also by Jesus himself, the

Temple (His body) was raised. Jesus demonstrated the reality of his resurrection intwelve appearances over forty days to more than 500 people.

    What makes Christ unique?

(1)In His birth: only the virgin birth of the Son of God, the incarnation, the birth ofthe God-man, is enough to give an adequate answer to the phenomena of theuniqueness of Jesus Christ.

    (2) In Christs life and ministry: He demonstrated who He was--the God-man, theonly begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. He also declared His purposeto die for our sin.

    (3) In His death on the cross: He bore our sin in His sinless body on the tree. Hedied as our substitute, and took our judgment.

    (4) By His resurrection: Christ accomplished that purpose. God proved the value ofHis Sons death and the sinlessness of His Person. It proved Him to be the uniqueGod-man.

He was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He workedin a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant

preacher. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family orowned a home. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place where he wasborn. He did none of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had nocredentials but Himself.

When He was only thirty three, He was turned over to His enemies and went

through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed to a cross between two thieves. While

He was dying, His executioners gambled for His garments, the only property he had

on earth. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a

friend. Nineteen centuries have come and gone, and today He is the central figure

of the human race. - Some have attributed this to Philips Brooks, the author of "O

    Little Town of Bethlehem."

His infinite love, which offers forgiveness to all of our sins, which makes even

me to speak of His uniqueness, is itself Unique no other like it anywhere.
