A modular system, C1 consists of three components: frame, electricalsystem and reflector.

First is a frame that accommodates fouraperture sizes. Frames can be ordered in4", 6", 8" or 10" apertures, with the four-, six- and eight-inch having interchangeablecapability. A remodel housing is availablein the 6", 8" and10" sizes for use in existingceiling systems. Sloped ceiling housingsare available in 8” and 10” diameters.

Frames can be installed even before a lamp source or wattage has been determined.

The second component is an electricalsystem. C1 electrical systems are designedaround incandescent, compact fluorescentor HID lamp sources of all shapes andwattages, and connect to the frame via a junction box door.

Capri One electrical assemblies areinterchangeable and can be retrofittedeven after installation.

Completing the system is a family of over 200 reflectors, developed exclusivelyfor Capri One. We offer a wide range ofavailable options, including self-flangedreflectors, cross baffles, and nonconductiveshower reflectors. Many Capri One reflectorsare C/UL listed for wet location use.

The C1 system was designed as much for quick delivery as it was forease of use —a lighting system thatinstalls without the use of tools, withoff-the-shelf components you can mix and match to meet your particularlighting needs. Components can be shipped separately, or as a system.

Capri offers remodel housingsfor existing commercial ceilingsystems. The CM6R, CM8R and CM10R metal remodel housings can be used with standard 6", 8" and 10" reflectorsand electrical systems.

Interchangeable insert ringsare securely fastened to the CM4,CM6 and CM8 metal frames with

two wing nuts. Insert rings can alsobe ordered separately. See page 44

How to Order Capri OneThere are three components to the Capri One (C1) System: The first component is the plaster frame, the second is an electrical system,and the third is a reflector. Frames and electrical systems can be orderedtogether as a complete unit, or separately.

Electrical SystemsA wide variety of electrical systems are available for use with all C1 frames. Capri One electrical systems are interchangeablebetween 4", 6", 8" and 10" sizes, apart from a few wattage restrictions. Electrical connections are made through a singlejunction box door, which allows all electrical systems to snapeasily into place on the frame.

Dual-level switching is now availablefor all multi-lamp CFL systems.All horizontal, multi-lamp, C1 electrical systems feature an optional dual-ballast system for dual-level switching. 2-lamp versions operate each lamp independently, while the 3-lamp systems have in-board/out-board capabilities.Dual-level switching is available in all CFL wattages from 13-watt through 42-watt.

HID systems now feature electronicballasts to conform to EISA.Small size, high efficiency, improved lumen maintenance,and excellent lamp regulation have made electronic HID systems a top choice among specifiers and contractors.

Adjustable Reflectors for Capri One 6" Systems

An adjustable reflector is now available for the 6” HID and Incandescent families of C1. These new reflectors accommodate PAR30 lamps in both HID and Incandescentand feature 360º horizontal rotation and 30º vertical aiming.Adjustable reflectors are available in a wide variety of finishes.

Capri Lighting applauds and supports the Energy IndependenceSecurity Act (EISA) that goes into effect January 1, 2009. Its longterm goal of reducing our dependence on foreign energy sourceswhile helping to reduce global climate changes will only beachieved through the support of manufacturers of quality lightingfixtures that comply. With that, Capri One now features electronicHID ballasts on all HID products from 20 watts through 150 watts

as a standard. Capri will continue to offer magnetic HID optionsin 35 watts through 100 watt fixtures for those who prefer magneticoptions. EISA regulations do not allow magnetic HID systems in150 watt and above to be sold in the United States.

With the introduction of many new HID lampsand ballasts, electronic HID systems havebecome an increasingly popular choice amonglighting designers, specifiers, architects, and design/build contractors. Electronic HID systems offer manydesirable features such as small size, high efficiency,improved lumen maintenance, and excellent lamp regulation, to name a few.

One feature of electronic HID ballasts is a circuit which removes power to the lamp at itsend-of-life. This is commonly referred to as “End-of-Lamp Life” (EOLL) protection. When triggered, the

EOLL protection will turn the ballast off. Triggering of the EOLL circuit will occur at end-of-lamp life or if no lamp is installed while the ballast is powered.When replacing a lamp, power to the ballast shouldbe cycled off and back on to ignite the lamp. Cyclingpower whenever a lamp is replaced can potentiallyreduce unnecessary servicing.

Many in the lighting industry now recognize thebenefits of using Electronic HID (E-HID) ballastswith ceramic metal halide (CMH) and Pulse Start MH lamps, compared with either incandescent or magnetic ballast systems: great white color, consistent color throughout the life of the lamp, and energy efficiency. An additional benefit is a reduction of circuit loads. Lower input current requirements offered by E-HID ballasts allow more fixtures per branch circuit in new installations, thuslowering installation material and labor costs.

The table below shows a fixtures-per-circuit comparisonfor three systems. Systems in each column representsimilar total lumen output.

E-HID ballasts allow a significant increase in fixtures percircuit, thus lowering installation costs accordingly.

HID Emergency Restrike OptionRestrike option senses circuit power interruptions. If power is lost, the unit will switch on a 100 wattmaximum T4 bayonet base quartz lamp (sold separately) immediately after power is restored. The quartz lamp will stay lit until the HID lamp restrikes and comes up to 50% brightness. Consult pages of individual HID electrical systems for availability.
